I have tried to rent points on the rent/trade board, but unfortunately I have not had any luck. I am getting nervous to I am not going to make this vaction happen. Does anyone know of any place that also rents points. Thank ypu in advance for the tips.

Well the problem could be when you are wanting to go?
What are your dates?

Informer can't post that info here because it would be in violation of the board. You can only post time frames, etc on the R/T board. If you are looking at a holiday time, that might be the problem. If you are looking for a GV within the next 9 months or less, that might be the problem. If you are looking for a specific room category at a specific resort, that could be the problem. If you aren't offering enough to pay, that could be the problem. If what you want is hard to get even for a member, that's definitely your problem. And if you want something within the next 45 days or less, not many members will take that risk. If you are asking for all sorts of payment plans, special requests, that could be the problem.

Have a backup plan, like a cash reservation through CRO, if your DVC reservation doesn't come through for you.

Thank you, for the tips. Is my asking for another web site a violation or responding to the other posters question regarding my dates?

If you post your dates here, they will edit the post or ask you to edit it to remove the dates. If you ask for another website to rent points, it might get ***'ed out. You could Google rent DVC points.

When you say you are not having any luck, do you mean that the people who replied to your thread were not able to find availability for your travel dates or that you thought their prices were too high or that you haven't found an owner you're comfortable doing business with? Or ??? I see that you had two replies to your R/T board thread within the first 4 days, possibly more if people contacted you via PMs. But then on the 5th day, you changed the text of your post to indicate you want to close it so it's not surprising there have been no further replies in the 5 days since then because adding the word "closed' to your thread implies that you either got what you needed or had changed your mind about renting a reservation.

Also, if you want the thread to be closed you need to edit the thread title (not the text) to add the word "closed" as the first word in the title. For step by step instructions, see the Posting Rules "sticky" thread at the top of the Rent/Trade board.

I did not get any replies from anyone who I thought was credible. If you look at those replies that I received, the posters had little to no history, I could not find a single post for them on the post tracker, and they only wanted to talk off line—all red flags for me.

What I have found is most people with points tend to just post their points and people flock to them (thus no need to respond to requests). There in lies cause of the bad luck I have been having--I can not get a seller to reply to my posts or PMs. The one person who has responded did not have enough points as they had already sold half their points by the time he responded.

I just figure maybe it is a supply and demand issue, thus my original question--are there other places to look for points. I figure if I cast a bigger net I may catch a reservation for my family.

Finally, thanks for the tip about closing my post on the other board, not trying to break the rules, thus I will make the correction.

Perhaps they didn't have a history because they are new to the DIS and only came to the forum to find a renter. When renting there is RISK which is why if you are uncomfortable you may be better off going through CRO.

.

renting is risky; as a pp mentioned maybe a reservation through CRO would be most comfortable for you. with regards to those wanting to speak "off-line": if you are engaging in a business transaction with someone, you will need to exchange some personal information with them (name, address, phone numbers). wouldn't you prefer to speak personally with someone you would potentially do business with? i think an actual conversation would give you some insight into who you are dealing with...

Do you have a back-up reservation at one of the hotels just in case? It might not be a bad idea if you are determined to go.

I take it all back. Someone that I contacted a week ago got back to me today and I rented their points. I guess the moral of the story is to be patience. I got the week I wanted and one of the resorts. So I can not attest that the rent/trade board worked. Thanks for all your tips.
