My parents were hoping to stay at Ft. Wildernes for a few nights in January 2005 to spend time with me & my hubby who will be staying at the POP Century. My family used to always stay at Ft. Wilderness & my parents would love to stay there.

They are currently driving a 42' Monaco & my Dad is concerned about the manueverabilty (sp?) with the big bus around the loops at Ft. Wilderness. Can anyone offer any advice on this? Has anyone with a motorhome of this size easily driven thru the loops & gotten parked in the site without any problems?

If anyone has had a bad experience with this, is there a better RV park nearby that would accomodate my parents better? Any advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks!!! :)

It can be tight at FW for some of the bigger motorhomes, I have seen CM's help with spotting and most of the other campers are glad to help out. I know that they were creating a few drive through sites for the larger units, dont know how many are actually done but they have tried to make things easier for the guests with the larger rigs.
IMHO dont sweat it, its common to see this size rig at FW.

In answer to your ? about a better RV park in the area.....

As far as my family is concerned, there isnt a better RV park on THIS WHOLE PLANET :D

just got back from a wk FT W visit (been going since it opened).

I would say the 1800, 1600 or 1500 loop.
The 300 & 100 loops are popular but as usual we saw many long rvs/trailors have to leave after unsucessfully being able to back in. Theres lots of trees at FT. W.

Tell them to call Ft W a week or 2 before they go and tell them about the length and type of RV. Hopefully you will get one of the better employees who will get them the right site.

it should not be a problem, i have seen many 45 foot Prevost in the sites, some sites may be dificult, if this is the case just ask for another site, motorhomes typically are easier to back in than trailers and fifth wheels, i have seen many 40 foot trailers in the campsites, don't sweat it - have a great time

Hi , we have a 40' Monaco. We travel with dogs and always stay in 1600, 1700, 1800, or 1900. When we go to our site , if the camper doesn't fit (sometimes the trees are in the way) we pick another and then just tell the front desk where we are. If your dad is a confident driver he should not have a problem. Monaco's are fabulous and we usually back it in in 1 shot. They did take down trees at the front of some of these sites making it easier to back in.

Over a year ago they DID remove some trees to make it easier.

To me it looked like LONG 5th wheels have the hardest time backing in. Probably alot depends on how experienced the driver is.

Just got back this am from FW with our new 45' Country Coach. We stayed in loop 200. We have stayed all over FW in our 41' Dutch Star.

There are many spots that a 42' will fit. We have stayed in the 100, 200, 400, 500, 700 and 900 loops with our 41' with no problem.

I would suggest they pull into the overflow lot and walk over to check in. You have more time to look over the book showing the site plans to get an idea what to expect. They are always very accomodating.

Call about 4 days prior to arriving (FW front desk, not CRO) and remind them you have a 42' coach.

We have walkie talkies and my wife tells me what I am about to back over. I would not try it alone ... that would be ugly.

It doesn't hurt to be a little apprehensive ... keeps you from doing something really stupid. But don't fret, things will be fine.

John
