If you have been thinking about doing one, then I think your body is trying to tell you something...you should do it. Especially if you have never done one before...you might be amazed at the results.
So, the one we do is from blessedherbs.com. I researched a lot three years ago, and I just thought this was the best one. The colon cleanse is colon only, but this year I am doing the 21 day internal cleanse afterward. I am really excited about it because I think I need to do it, I made the commitment and spent the money for it

It's a little expensive. All the gory details, and I mean photos and everything are on that web site.
You do two different things on the cleanse. First, you take digestive stimulants to keep your GI tract moving. They aren't horse pills, kind of like a multivitamin. They are filled with the powder and you can taste the anise herb (black licorise) when you swallow them. You have to figure out how many capsules you need to take to have 3 to 4 BMs a day. Yes, a day.

I admit to having problems with this if I eat too much wheat. That really puts a plug in the works, and I really like wheat, pizza, pasta, buns, bread, etc Second, you drink this horrible, horrible concoction. They provide you with a shaker bottle, which you fill half way or so with organic apple juice. Then you add this powder to it, gritty, very gritty, shake it up for 15 to 30 seconds and chug it as fast as you can without breathing. At least, that's what I do. And you have to drink it quickly, because it is a bulk forming mixture, it will thicken and thicken the longer it sets. It does this because this is basically what is going to clean out your colon. Fill your colon with this bulk that will move along everything that is in your colon. The powder comes in ginger flavor or peppermint. Only ginger was available 3 years ago, and it was really rough. The peppermint is much much easier to take.
So, the precleanse, days 1-3 are to determine how many digestive stimulants you need to take for the desired results. Also, you drink the concoction once every evening. Some people may take longer to figure out their number than three days. This is okay, you have to have your system moving, so once you get it going, then the real cleanse begins.
Days 4 to 8 consist of drinking that mix 5 times a day every 3 hours. So, for me, because I woke up so early, I am doing 6:30 am, 9:30 am, 12:30 pm, 3:30 pm, and 6:30 pm. Each night you take the digestive stimulants. You can control how powerful the cleanse is with your diet, depending on if you eat, and what you eat if you do. We go hard core and don't eat, because if we are going to do it, we will aim for the best results possible. I have done quite a bit of fasting for many different reasons. Most commonly, I have done a 3 day water only fast. You can feel pretty hungry on day 2. But, with this fast, even being 5 days, seriously, you are hungry, but then you drink the drink and you really feel kind of full. It's not a I have enjoyed eating, tasting great food, I feel stuffed kind of full. It's more like, okay, I'm just not really super hungry anymore. I will live.

That's day one anyway. By the end, you are so sick of the stupid drink that you dread doing it, you don't even feel hungry anymore, the drink is too much and you don't even want it.
But, in the meanwhile, you are starting to feel really good, especially as you watch what is really bad come out of your system. There is no cramping. There is no uncontrolable needs for the toilet. It is more like, you can actually hear the grumble rumble in your middle region and then you realize that, hmmm, I should go to the bathroom. You go and it seems like you leave a couple pounds behind.

I may be weird, but the more you go, the more you want to.
So, controling it. If you eat, the closer your diet is to raw vegan, then the more powerful. The least effective is to not change the way you eat, especially if your diet includes highly processed foods and meat. Fasting gives the most results. The idea is that your colon has developed a lining of solid waste of sorts. This waste is stuck to the sides of your colon. So, the least amount of food you eat, the more the bulk forming stuff can stick to what is stuck in your colon to move it out and the less it sticks to food you continue to introduce to your system.
The first time we did it, DH lost 12 pounds. My first time was rough. I didn't really find my number, but started the cleanse anyway, so DH and I could be on the same schedule. Bad. Bad. Very bad. Not a good one. Last year, I lost about 8 pounds. There are testimonies of people with really bad diets, lifestyles that have lost much more, I want to say like 20 or 30 pounds.
The thing to remember is that some of the weight will come back. It has to. You will start eating again. I read in the Okanawa Diet that it takes about 2 pounds of food for the average person to be satisfied with food in any given day. That's why it is so good to eat food that is not calorically dense. That is, a lot of bang for your buck. I bought a hot air popcorn popper from Goodwill for less than $2. I keep popcorn kernels around, and also, I keep the spray kind of fake butter around in the fridge. It doesn't have trans fat in it at all, and I just spray that popcorn like crazy as it comes out of the popper. It's a lot of food without killing me on calorie content. (I love chips, mmmmmmm, I could get a whole bag in one sitting no problem, that is, the big ones, I could eat about 3 or 4 big grabs). This really helps me when I feel like I just need to eat something and maybe eat a lot.
Anyway, not to get off subject, but a few pounds will come back. But the deal is that you have to drink a lot of water with this thing. You have to. So water weight isn't a factor here. It is absolutely, what you start putting back into your system. And the thing is that after you have totally focused on this for so many days, you really do develop a desire to be healthier with your body. I admit that my DH is doing this with me, and that is huge in the helpful department. And this year, just to really go crazy, I am doing the follow up internal cleanse, which will hit all the other system, liver, gall bladder, bladder, lungs, blood, skin, and um,

possible parasites? They recommend doing the colon cleanse, then breaking for 4 days and then doing the internal cleanse. And that's what I am doing. I consider it a supplement to my healthful efforts and something else to really help keep me focused and on track for the next month. Feel free to ask if you have a specific question that I didn't address. I'm totally willing to share. Obviously, I can talk a lot, my posts always seem to be soo soo long.
