One of my DD's friends is talking about getting a Helix haircut. It is supposed to be a hair cut using a special pair of scissors that turns straight hair into wavy/curly hair. I did some searches on Google images, and couldn't really get an idea of how good or bad it looks. Anyone ever have one? Was it something you would do again or is it overrated and overpriced?

Curly/wavy hair is structurely different than straight hair. A haircut will not give you curls or waves unless you already have some texture in your hair, and the cut is such that it brings out the curl. Styling tools or products to boost curls or permanent waves are the only way to go from straight to curly.

What is Helix Haircut ?
Helix is more than just a haircut. It is the newest hair sculpting system that creates movement, lift, direction, wave and yes, even curl into the hair without damaging chemicals.
The Helix Sculpting System uses specially designed tools (scissors) that cut spiral movement into each section of hair. It's all about the art of design being cut into the hair first, thus low maintenance.

If you believe that, then let me sell you the pair of jeans I bought that make me closer to six feet tall than five feet tall. They are amazing! :rotfl2:

:rotfl: I remember this being a big deal back when I branched off and opened my shop in '94. Stylists were paying big bucks for training and the scissors and passing it on to the client. I'd say it was big in NY and Chicago long befre it got here. It is nothing new.

I am so glad I asked my fellow Disers :thumbsup2

Don’t talk if you don’t know anything. Why don’t you adicate yourself. I am a Helix Designer since 20 years and I made more money and my Ladies happy with a carefree Haircut than you ever could think of !!!

No it’s not new but it work’s. I am a Helix Designer since 20 years. You probably go to a quick cutter, of corse they do NOT do a specialty Haircut. My Haircuts don’t grow out of shape, some of my Ladies can wait 3-4 monthe before they need another Haircut. Just remember, you get what you pay for !!!

A quick Google of the before and after images shows a lot of people who have curly or wavy hair (that might have been straightened or dry brushed in the before photo). I'm calling fraud on this as a legitimate method to obtain curly or wavy hair. I have curly hair, and can increase or decrease the level of curl depending on how I style my hair and what products I use.

Uh oh. Karen is getting a new do. The Helix.

I'm generally opposed to pointing out spelling errors, but your post is extremely nasty for someone who really shouldn't be telling anyone they need to educate themselves.

This and the nose moles thread. Thanks to Google, our algorithmic demographic is someone with a helix cut, nose moles, and a hankerin' for dolewhips and Thunder Mountain.
