Day 8 - Tuesday the 10th - Part 3 - A Rainy Afternoon
Cool, a new Mickey towel was waiting for us on the bed when we arrived back in the room. (The kids had destroyed the first one a couple days earlier, before I could snap a photo.)
The kids all headed down towards the pool, but their swimming was cut short as another storm rolled through. We ended up just socializing in our room for a while. (They were looking at the photos from Cinderella's Royal Table and divvying them up.)
A couple hours later, it was time to start thinking about dinner. It was still raining and it wasn't going to let up, so we decided to skip spending the evening in the parks and just eat at a counter service restaurant somewhere instead. But where? Someone suggested that Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary resort had a good menu. Sounded fun to me. I've never stayed at the Contemporary, but have always loved visiting it. Cassie and her gang were interested in something a little more exciting, so they left Dewey with us and took Princess with them... and they spent the evening getting rained on in Epcot. So we all got cleaned up and headed towards the monorail together and then parted ways.
Of course everyone loves the fact that the monorail passes right through the hotel. I love the Mickey ears at the Fantasia gift shop and also the giant Mary Blair mural. (She was one of the coolest artists ever!)
So we headed downstairs and looked around a few minutes before heading towards the other side of the lobby.
We had to stop for a couple potty breaks for the younger ones, so Stephanie and and Steve decided to take a break from the stroller races.
Baby sleeping away. So darn precious!
And a few minutes later, the rest of the team arrived.
Buddy and his buddies...
We've been to Chef Mickey's a couple times before when the kids were smaller. A great place! But we wanted to try out Contempo Cafe this time
We took a few minutes to look at the menu screens and then placed our orders at the self serve kiosks.
The kiosk printed a receipt that you took up to the cash registers to pay with, and then you came back to pick up your food when it was ready.
In the meantime, you could grab deserts or things from the cooler (pre-made salads/sandwiches, fruit, etc.).
OK. We are going to have to come back for cupcakes later!!!! (Pickle had her eye on that Frozen themed cupcake.)
We grabbed a couple tables and waited for our food to be ready. (They gave out pagers to let you know.)
Since my mom wasn't looking at the camera in the last photo, we'll give her another chance to smile at us now
We don't call her Pickle for nothin'
And a little while later, our food was ready!
I had the Spice-crusted Mahi Sandwich (with Creamy Coleslaw and Spicy Tartar Sauce on a Focaccia Roll with French Fries, Chilled Sesame Green Beans, or House-made Chips.) Wow, this was amazing. Not your typical counter service quality meal!!!
Stephanie had the Grilled Mahi Mahi (with Lobster Cream Sauce, Mixed Vegetables, and Rice). Also very delicious!!
Beth sat at our table with Baby. She had a Chicken Chop Salad (with Corn, Black Beans, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, and Cilantro Vinaigrette), which she seemed to enjoy.
Dewey and Pickle both had pizza.
And buddy had the kids hamburger.
I don't recall who had these from the other table, but here's a Bacon Cheeseburger and the Hot Smoked Turkey Sandwich (Turkey, Brie, Arugula, Green Apple Slices, Apple Butter, and Honey Mustard on Challah Bread with French Fries, Chilled Sesame Green Beans, or House-made Chips).
Chip and Dale shared the kids Tuna Salad Platter (with Pita, Grapes, and Apple Slices) I have no idea if they liked it or not. It didn't look too appetizing to me though. Ha!
As far as the others from the table, they duplicates of the stuff above, so I didn't take any more photos. All in all, this was an amazing meal considering it was counter service. It had a similar ambiance to Chef Mickey's and the same fun seeing the monorail pass by while you eat, but MUCH cheaper. Very nice! I would have rather been up on the top floor at California Grill, but Contempo Cafe is truly a hidden gem!
