they are banned but I still see those annoying kids all around Epcot with them every day.

Hey Peel!
U made my day! What a concept, maybe we should all think of outrageous things that are NOT posted as no-nos! Think we can just post here or do we need a new thread?

I just had to inject a little humor here....it's so ridiculous that someone is actually arguing this point to death when they know they're wrong.

HOVER CARS!!

I think the attitude that I can do whatever I want, is so prevalent in Disney is that the usual societal pressures aren't applied. Norms are actions that are commonly followed by a society, for many reasons. Not wearing Heelys in a public place is a norm of our society. This is not a debatable point, too many people find it offensive. In the same way, covering your mouth while you yawn or cough is a norm. I would say that wearing Heelys is more offensive than not covering your mouth. Murder, is also breaking a norm, and for the most serious offenses against norms, laws are made in most societies to prevent them. Heelys do not fall under this, they are not that offensive.

So how are these lesser norms enforced? Societal pressure, and there is very little in Disney parks because no one wants to ruin someone else's vacation. But, if at a mall a kid crashes (even being bumped into by a complete stranger is bothersome, particularly a child, no one wants to see a kid fall over and get hurt, so they get stressed when one hits them while on wheels) into someone, you can be fairly certain words will be exchanged regarding the inneptitude and disregard of the parent who is repsonsible for that child. Some may be more extreme than others and may not be appropriate, but still, you get my point.

For those of you who think its ok to wear these in Disney parks, next time look around, really look around. Every person you see looking at your child roll by is biting their tongues. Some literally. None of them are admiring your child rolling about. Everyone wants to say something to you but does not want to jeapordize the happiness of their vacation and yours, the way you are doing already by ignoring their ability to feel comfortable.

I am, after all, famous for being the inventor of High Heelys.

And you, my friend, are ignorant for equating a rule with a law. Two totally seperate things. And just to play devil's advocate, let's say there was a law banning Heelys. Have you EVER gone over the speed limit on the road? Driven in the left lane of the highway in Florida and not changed lanes when someone approached you from behind? Because you, my friend, are breaking the law when you do that, and you know what they say about people who live in glass houses...

My kids have them and I probably won't let them use them next time we're there but I, along with most of you, will be taking outside food into the park. That is certainly against the "rules". Maybe we should all be escorted out. Also, a lot of you will probably smoke in no-smoking areas and not think twice about it. Let's get rid of you now. How about the innapropriate dressers? We all know the rules, yet look around next time you're there. Are refillable mugs refillable all year? "Honest, My child is only 2 1/2 he doesn't need a ticket" Yes, my son is under nine, can I get a discount on the DDP?" The list goes on and on........

And yes, those of you who drove probably went over the speed limit! When pulled over, I'm sure you said you'd slow down next time, right?

Get over it and enjoy your own vacation!

Oh, I absolutely love it when a child on heelys and/or his/her parents yell to the people walking ahead "Watch Out!!". Everyone ahead should clear a path for the child breaking the rules, yes?:rolleyes1 This happened tons of times when we were there in Feb. And did I move? Certainly not. My family and I continued to walk at the pace we had been walking and the child would always have to use the brakes to either stop or slow down to weave between people.:thumbsup2

Disney is always crowded and if a child or his/her parents expect everyone to clear a path because they are skating by or can't stop...well then I have no idea what they could possibly be thinking:confused3

I have one simple question....why exactly does anyone need to use heelys at crowded theme parks, anyway? The child is going to visit the same attraction as his/her family so why does the child need to skate in circles or skate ahead and risk injuring himself or others?? Why can't the child just wear "normal" shoes, just for that one day since he/she will still have to wait for the family to catch up? And "my son/daughter only owns 1 pair of shoes" is not a legitimate excuse. If you can afford Heelys for your child, you can afford a cheap pair of flipflops, crocs, sneakers, or whatever.

I vote that there should be the "Heely Police" :rotfl:

The rest of those (aside from smoking) don't affect the rest of us like your kid running into someone would. It isn't a good comparison.

I'm with the people who question the need of Heelys at freakin' Disney World for crying out loud! It's rude when you're on your way, just strolling along, and some snot faced brat comes rolling by and/or runs into you.

I truly weep for the future.

I think I have come up with a solution that will make everyone happy. Anti-Heely guests will not have to be looking over their shoulders and Pro-Heely guests will be able to spot sympathizers without a problem.

I am a smoker and I would NEVER smoke outside of the designated areas. We don't smoke in our own home or car either. I would not endanger the health of others with either the smoke or by risking a burn. There are 3000 smoking areas in WDW and we use them. And if someone does not, they should be ejected from the park. We also say something to people who do not smoke in designated areas. My DH is the first to say "excuse me, the smoking area is thataway!"

I also have a 3-1/2 year old who looks 2. We bought her an AP. I could have gotten away with not doing so, in fact, about 90% of the time, I had to tell the Cm's at the gate to hang on so I could put her ticket in...they were waving her in.

And I have never been pulled over. I don't speed. I have never even had a parking ticket. In almost 20 years of driving.

I find it hard to enjoy myself when I have to worry about my little guy being knocked over, and like the boy at the Tusker House, I couldn't help but feel anxious watching him. I don't like to see children get injured. Even though I don't like Heely's, that doesn't mean I want to see some poor child take a header into the concrete or have hot coffee dumped on him when he bumps into someone.

Heely's at the park are an accident just waiting to happen, either for the child wearing them or for a bystander. That makes me edgy. Does it "ruin" my trip? No. But it makes it much less relaxing.

And the justification of breaking rules because "people speed, people smoke where they are not supposed to, people do this, people do that" is just ridiculous. Reminds me of when my Dad used to say "Well if everyone jumped off a bridge, would you follow them?"

And as far as all the other kids in WDW having them, I would tell my child that they were against the rules, but people choose to ignore the rules. We are NOT those people. Those things are dangerous, BTW, no matter what anyone says about how good their kids are on them. My sister is a Pediatric ER nurse and Heely's are second only to baby walkers on her list of most hated inventions. And I know there is a pediatrician's hubby on the boards and he has said that Heely's keep his wife in business.

In defense of the CM's, they dislike the Heely's too. But they have a couple issues. First, they cannot confiscate the wheels, so the kids just put them back in when they get away from that CM. Also, some CM's dont want a confrontation. Because people get crazy when told something. Guests yell, swear, threaten physical violence, etc. when CM's tell them not to smoke, not to wear Heely's, or that their child is too short to ride something. And often, when that happens, the CM gets blamed for the problem. I saw a man who brought an alcoholic beverage onto a bus turn it around and end up saying he was going to report the bus driver for being rude. For telling him it was not allowed and he would have to throw it out. I thought she was nice about it until he continued to drink it in front of her face.

I look at things this way, people will continue to be self-centered and break the rules. But one shiny day, Disney will crack down. And I will sit in the designated smoking area, wearing my appropriate clothes, sipping a beverage I bought inside the park, watching them be escorted out. <sigh> ;)

We allowed my 8 year old DS to wear his Heelys to the parks this past week, during our visit to WDW. He is not allowed to skate in crowded areas, and NOT ONCE did he bump into anyone or anything. Flame me all you want, but my DS enjoys wearing his Heelys in the parks...and yes, he wore them all day long for 3 days in a row. As long as he continues to control himself properly while using his Heelys, and there are no clear rules posted banning Heelys from the parks, I'll continue to let him wear them.

No one needs to flame you. Your post is enough to show your respect for others and the rules.

Nobody in THIS thread - trust me! Yet there are posters in this thread who will still allow their children to wear and use Heelys at Walt Disney World, based on a verbal 'okay' from one Cast Member and despite both multiple posts stating the ban AND the link to that information on Disney's website AND one poster actually copying & pasting the specific information that footwear with wheels is among the items prohibited.

Hey, TDC Nala, I think we're really onto something here. We could make a FORTUNE!

I, along with most of you, will be taking outside food into the park.

Nope, not us!

Also, a lot of you will probably smoke in no-smoking areas and not think twice about it.

Don't smoke, try again :D

How about the innapropriate dressers? We all know the rules, yet look around next time you're there. Are refillable mugs refillable all year? "Honest, My child is only 2 1/2 he doesn't need a ticket" Yes, my son is under nine, can I get a discount on the DDP?" The list goes on and on........

Let's see... we wear shorts and t-shirts, we buy new mugs every time we go, we have no children, we don't split/share/use CS credits for TS...

And yes, those of you who drove probably went over the speed limit! When pulled over, I'm sure you said you'd slow down next time, right?

Hmmm... nope! Don't speed, never have. Don't want to take the risk of getting into an accident... especially since getting t-boned by someone who WAS speeding and ran a red light. Oh, and I also get to the right on Florida highways if I'm in the left lane and someone comes up behind me... as long as I have clearance to the right.

Get over it and enjoy your own vacation!

You know, that would be a heck of a lot easier to do if I didn't have to worry about whether or not my legs will be taken out today by someone not following the rules.

Wow! So yet... people who complain about heelies DO still follow all of the rules! Would you like to try a different argument? Oh yes, you have none. People who wear heelies in the park are breaking the rules, plain and simple.
