Heelys Banned?!

Hmmm...I am usually quite envious of the kids on Heeleys. I always think about how much quicker I could get around...especially to the "Fast Pass" ticket lines.

I never thought of that. Maybe I WILL let them wear them after all.

Do you even UNDERSTAND the difference between breaking a rule that actually doesn't harm someone (like not moving down all the way in a row) and using heelies (which you can crash into someone and physically injure them)?!

THAT is my point! And you're ignoring it completely, and you know what? I don't like it AT ALL!

A rule is a rule. There are reasons for all of them wether we understand the reasons or not.

My kids have them...would I allow them on vacation?, no. Just Like I am one of the smokers in the designated area! Not all parents/smokers are IGNORANT of the rules.

A rule is a rule. There are reasons for all of them wether we understand the reasons or not.

I give up. Seriously. If you want to say that breaking a rule that could potentially injure someone is just as serious as breaking a rule that says you have to move down to the end of a row during a show, more power to you.

It'll be interesting to see what happens the first time someone sues Disney for not enforcing the rule of no heelies in the park, and see how some tunes like to change when they start confiscating wheels or throwing people out of parks. To my knowledge, no one's ever been injured taking pictures on a ride. But what do I know right?

not to belittle the ones who need them, I know they are a necessity in some cases, HOWEVER, the drivers of some of them are just as if not more "dangerous" as a kid in heelys....there are plenty of complaints all over the boards. JMHO

There are different kinds of rules...Those designed to keep people safe and those designed as a matter of courtesy.

No flash photography or moving to the end of the row in a theatre are the types of rules made for courtesy to your fellow vacationers.

No heelies would be considered a rule to keep people safe. Not only the people around the park but also those trying to use them.

It just takes common sense to distinguish the difference between these types of rules and the severity on how they should be enforced.

I personally have never been ran into by someone wearing these devices and have never seen it happen to anyone else in the parks but I have seen kids using them and the potential for someone to get hurt is there.

If you didn't know the rules, the proper response is:

"I'm Sorry ( apologizing ), I did not understand the rules regarding this ( accepting responsibility ) and I won't do it again ( confirmation of acceptance to follow the rules going forward )"

If you did know the rules and just decided that they did not apply to you, you should be held legally responsible for your negligent actions.

I cannot believe this thread is still going. Well yes I can. It's obvious that no one is going to agree on this issue. I am a parent of a dd with heelys and no she did not take them with her to MK this past Monday and no she will not be bringing them in June. WDW is not an appropriate place for Heelys.

I think we need to drop this subject and all agree to disagree. If not, this will end up being the longest thread on the Dis ever!!!!!

You can have your opinion... but it doesn't negate the fact that they are a necessity. And while some people can be dangerous on them, some people walking can be just as dangerous to the people on the ECV's! I had to stop on a dime more than once when I rented one, hurting both my back and neck when people would cut in front of me or let their children run in front of me, or my favorite of the day, heely right towards me.

I'll say it again... heelies are not a necessity to get someone around the park. ECV's are. It would be against the law to ban those in the park, especially since the wheelchairs are not weight rated for someone over 250 pounds. So the thing that is not a necessity would need to go, not the necessity.

YAY Stepharia......I came to this thread and started getting all riled up - but humans nature is some pro some con. Agree to disagree is a good thing for this subject!!

There is nothing wrong with owning heelys just like there is nothing wrong with owning skateboards or skates or bikes. And there are certainly worse things in the world that wearing heelys in the park. I think every reasonable person would agree on those two points.
