Hey my family and i were down in disney this past christmas and we were waiting for our dinner ressies at alfredo's in Epcot and a kid wearing heely's skated right into the back on my right knee that just had surgery two years ago and do you think the parents cared. The mother told me i should have been paying more attention think with a crowded theme park they would be banned. I work at a Modell's sporting goods and i tell all my customers not to bring them to disneyworld and they even thank me for the tip.I am so glad that they are banned.Heely's don't belong in disneyworld it's not a skatepark. MISSY AND FAMILY

I just found this thread and only wanted to add my .02. I don't think heelys are the problem, I think the children that have no manners and run into you at Wal Mart or wherever are the problem. My dd10 has a pair but I'd like to think that I taught her well enough to know not to be rude and dodge in and out of people. I've seen children who wear them and do their little thing and not bother anyone and I say kudos to those kids. There's always going to be someone misusing a product and alot of times it comes at the expense of others.

Just exchange my thongs ah flipflops for a set of heelys and MNSSHP here I come to pop some wheelies. Now that would be dangerous. Seriously, the parks are not a place to be using them.

Banned, but obviously not yet enforced.

Once security starts turning families away at the gate due to their children wearing heeleys and the word gets out - maybe then they can claim they have been banned.

Personally I dont care one way or the other, our children dont have them and others havent yet gotten in our way.

The airport isn't, either. All you need is someone running to catch a plane, some kid rolls out in front of them, crash, bang, pow.

AHHH Finally! They banned the Heelys!!!

I am 100% anti-Heely.

For one, I cannot even begin to tell you how many little children fell FLAT on their behind on the CONCRETE. Hm... Breaking a tale bone at WDW really doesn't sound like my idea of a "Magical Vacation" ... Unless, of course, you're fond of doctor's.

Also, has anyone actually SEEN the way the kids have to walk in these when not "skating"? They have to literally walk on their tip-toes. Yeah, like that's a GREAT thing for kids to be doing while walking miles and miles in the parks. Way to mess up your posture, hurt your feet, etc.

I think this is one of the best things WDW's done since... Well, since it opened!

CM's won't enforce it. Why would they? They could care less about all the people smoking in undesignated areas of the park.

May seem harsh, but here's what should happen:

There should be signs posted outside the entrance that heely's are not allowed, and anyone wearing them, will be kicked out of the park. No need for warnings. Your warning is right outside before you get in.

I HATE those things.

Aaaand, may I just say that CMs are TRAINED to tell smokers who are smoking in non-designated areas to please go to the nearest one. I know I did. So, not ALL CMs would do that.

I for one do not like smoking at all. At. All. Nor do I like Heelys. When smokers or heely-ers were in sight, I would kindly ask him/her to put out their cigarette and direct them to the nearest area and ask the child to not skate while in the parks, while looking right at the parents so they know that it's quite dangerous for them.

I didn't want other Guests to be uncomfortable around the smoke, and I did not want the children to get hurt/other Guests to get hurt.

No tears in Disney World!!!

Point well stated, and taken.

But rules still have to be still posted clearly so you'll believe them, right? Oh, wait, the rules are clearly posted on the Disney website, but since that doesn't suit your needs and arguements, you'll go with whatever it is you're told, so it can be twisted to suit your needs.

Well, I care a great deal about that... so I suppose it is possible that I could care less; I couldn't care more than I already do. I tell guests on a daily basis that they may smoke only in designated areas.

(Side Note: This reminds me of the bit of dialogue between the March Hare, Alice, and the Mad Hatter:
`Take some more tea,' the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly.
`I've had nothing yet,' Alice replied in an offended tone, `so I can't take more.'
`You mean you can't take less,' said the Hatter: `it's very easy to take more than nothing.' )

To me, this (Heelies) is one of those topics where I cannot understand why it's still being discussed and debated. The fact is that Disney wants you to leave the Heelies at home. Skating is not permitted. It's posted on our website. Heck, I'll even go so far as to say you can wear Heelies -- but only without the wheels. And I'm told they aren't the most comfortable shoes...

So why aren't the rules being enforced -- for either Heelies or Smokers? Because, as mentioned earlier, CMs have it drilled into their heads that we're to make the guests' vacations here as hassle-free and magical as possible, and a LOT of CMs have real issues "being the bad guy" and telling people "you can't do this". Besides, no CM wants to say something to a guest and then have that guest turn around and march into Guest Relations and start filing complaints.

Me, I think a trip to the ER can ruin the magic for you real quick. And parents, it's wonderful if your kid is the Heely World Champion... but how many other Guests are watching where they're going?

ON the subject of out of control kids on Heely's....

I was in Wal-Mart last night and there was a tween girl with Heely's on. She go tup some speed and skated down the aisle...Then I don't know how it happened but she ended up head over heels in one of those open freezer cases where they keep the corn dogs.

Should of had my video camera with me.

Oh, for the record the girl's mom yelled at her to get moving because they were running late. The girl proceeded to speed skate to catch up with her mom.

I don't think that Heely's are evil. Hey, I love to skate. I spent a good chunk of my teen years ice skating and I still roller blade (yes, a 30 ish woman CAN rollerblade). However I think there is a time and place for Heely's just like other skates.

Oh, and thanks. I now have the Heely song stuck in my head.

My kids have them and I probably won't let them use them next time we're there but I, along with most of you, will be taking outside food into the park. That is certainly against the "rules". Maybe we should all be escorted out. Also, a lot of you will probably smoke in no-smoking areas and not think twice about it. Let's get rid of you now. How about the innapropriate dressers? We all know the rules, yet look around next time you're there. Are refillable mugs refillable all year? "Honest, My child is only 2 1/2 he doesn't need a ticket" Yes, my son is under nine, can I get a discount on the DDP?" The list goes on and on........

And yes, those of you who drove probably went over the speed limit! When pulled over, I'm sure you said you'd slow down next time, right?

Get over it and enjoy your own vacation!

WISH WE COULD ENJOY OUR OWN VACATION, BUT HOWEVER, WHEN YOU SAY YOU "PROBABLY" WILL NOT LET YOUR KIDS USE THEM THE NEXT TIME, I TEND TO THINK YOU PROBABLY WILL, ALONG WITH OTHERS THAT DON'T FOLLOW THE RULES.....SO WE WILL STILL WIND UP HAVING TO DODGE THE RULE BREAKERS. AS FOR YOUR OTHER INUENDOS OF PEOPLE USING REFILLABLE MUGS FOR MORE THAN THEIR CURRENT STAY, TRYING TO GET THEIR OVERAGED CHILDREN INTO PARKS WITHOUT TICKETS, AND CHILDRENS MEALS, ALONG WITH DRIVING OVER THE SPEED LIMIT .....THIS STILL DOES NOT GIVE YOU OR ANYONE ELSE THE RIGHT TO GO AGAINST THE RULES....IF SOMEONE JUMPED OFF THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE...WOULD YOU FOLLOW THEM? You are trying to justify your non-compliance with the rules by stating what other non-complying guests do....and you think that gives you the right to do whatever you want? Rules and regulations are meant to be followed, those here that choose to ignore them are ignorant.

1) Hallelujah
2) Absolutely correct.
3) Make any excuse you want to ot follow rules or cheat on prices.
4) It is still stealing and not following the rules.

I felt I should warn all of you parents who chose to let their kids wear heelies. I will be in the parks this October, and next April. Probably July too. And I will most likely have kids in tow. If your little heelie wearing darling runs into me or mine, I will "probably" have a twitch that results in your little angel being shoved away from us, and they will "probably" hit the ground. I won't mean to do it. I usually don't have a twitch. I am very good at not twitching. In fact, I haven't had an accident yet. But I feel I should give you all a heads-up.

No offense meant to anyone who has a serious disorder.

If everyone flames you, then they can flame me also. My kids love their Heelys and they have never come close to running into anyone. Some children can be taught to use them properly. I have a pair myself. I know people yell about how they are not allowed and think the shoes should be taken away at the gate. When then while we are on the subject of taking things away for not following the rules, I think they should take all the cigarettes away from everyone who enters the park because I really get sick and tired of people walking through the park smoking anywhere they want. They are not following that rule and I think that getting cancer from second hand smoke is everybit as important to me as kids running into everyone else with Heelys. I will say that if Heelys are not allowed they should post signs and people should obey them.

I know there are rules about drinking and driving but I'm really good at both drinking and driving and have lots of pratice doing both, together. even tho i know there are rules against it, i don't see it posted everywhere, and i know that i can do it, i'v practiced a lot and i've never hit anyone. I go slow in the busy places and i've really learned how to do this well, i feel i'm ENTITLED to drink and drive. I'm a better drinker and driver than others and i should be allowed
I know my 4 yr old should be in a car seat but she like to sit on the regular seat and like i said above, i'm a great driver, never had an accident. i don't think she should have to sit in her car seat anymore, she doesn't want to and i'm a good enough drive so she shouldn't have to and she's ENTITLED to do what she wants, when she wants, how she wants, right!?!.
I think we'll bring DD bike with training wheels to WDW for her to ride in the parks, she would love it, all of that space and she's really good with the brakes, never has hit anyone! She'll be doing this while wearing flipfllops and no helmet, wouldn't want the poor dear to overheat! Again she's ENTITLED to have fun and this would be great fun for her!!

Disclaimer: i/we obviously would NEVER do any of the above, including the quote! The fact that people put their childs entertainment above my childs safety is well... pretty disturbing but i guess not that suprising. Common courtesy and respect for other has flown right out the window these days, now it all about ourselves and everyone else can... well you know.

I wonder how parents are going to enforce the hard rules, like drinking, sex, stealing, lying, cheating etc. if the rules on wheelies and respect for others is soooo flexible.

ITA:thumbsup2 DD has a pair but she wears them at home. The schools here don't permit them, as I agree with. And I don't think the parks at WDW are the place for them either. And I would love to see them banned at Wal Mart. My biggest issue are the kids that wear them at Wal Mart and just run into you or get in front of your buggie to do little tricks. And as a parent if I saw my child behaving this way, I'd correct it then and there.
