Heavy Wind Damage To My House In NJ

I forgot about that Rockefeller movie, Cookie. I want to see it.

The two people killed in Teaneck were a couple walking on Jefferson Street around 2:00 this afternoon. A big oak fell on them. :( I've never heard of Jefferson Street, but Teaneck does have a lot of streets. I googled it, and it's near the river and the New Milford border. Drainage is not good over there, so I guess the tree's roots came up. Poor folks.

Oh no, be safe. We're in Branchburg and there is flooding all around, just came in from the planetarium and saw a tree down at my son's school.

I'm in Branchbrug too. We had water in the cellar. Where the sump pump drains into a ditch is now a huge lake. It was pumping out and coming right back in. DH added more pipe so it drains further away so far that seems to have worked. Just a mess cleaning up. There are big branches all over the yard and street. I'm so glad our power has stayed on. Good Luck everyone.

Tons of water out here in Western NJ. I was down near Edison today(craft fair) and spun out on the exit ramp off of 287- there was a huge puddle. And the shops in town were sandbagging last night. I hope they don't get flooded but I fear they will.

I'm in sayreville, so right there with ya OP. I just now got home from the city. All trains out have been suspended. But did they tell us. Nope. I finally took the bus. I hate the bus. Went to go get the car and all the power on that side of Broadway is out. I get home and the roof is leaking. Joy. I hate Jersey.

It was some storm! I just hope it's over.

The Garden State Plaza lost power and was evacuated. People were in the movie theatre and the power just cut out, and they were told to leave.

We were supposed to be going to see my in-laws today in Lincoln Park. MIL called before and said it's best to postpone since there's too much water in Mountainview to get through that way. Maybe we could get through Pequannock, but it sounds like more trouble than it's worth so we'll see them next week. Power outages are all around them; luckily, they still have power. They did have to move their cars to higher ground since the flood waters are still raising.

I wonder how the waters are over in New Milford and River Edge. It's just recovered from a storm in April 2007. I hope it's O.K. now. :(

Sorry about your roof. :(

I just drove to work in Englewood Cliffs and I took the back roads. Doesn't look like there is power around here (we have generators). The traffic lights that lead to the complex I work on have blown away. That means getting to work tomorrow will be a nightmare.

Driving around the neighborhood, there looked like there was a down tree every couple of homes. Power lines were down everywhere. What a mess. I live in Jersey City and did not see any damage there.

I am in Bridgeport, CT and I lost the roof on my garage. One shingle was loose and I should have fixed it before the winter but who would have thought? That one shingle blew off and ripped a few others and so on. Now half of my roof, of course the top half, is bare. I just did it about 3 years ago. I have exposed wood now but it is still raining so it won't get fixed for a few days. The roofer said I have to wait till the wood is totally dry before it can be repaired. So hopefully this will be the last of the rain today and we will have a few days of sun so it can be fixed by next rain.
My neighbor's roof is in such bad dis-repair that it is curling and falling off. Most of her roof is in my backyard but she has 3 layers so she has coverage. I have been complaining to them for almost 4 years about having to clean their roof from my yard after every windy day and they just keep saying they don't have the money. So clean up my yard.

Newport Rhode Island here. Water started coming in from the bottom and top of my back door around 11PM last night. Power went out and then flickered on and off all night. No cable and internet after 12AM. Had a break from rain and wind for a few hours this morning but it is starting up again and supposed to continue all day tomorrow.

I live about a block from the ocean and I am afraid to walk down there and see what the water is doing and whether it has breached sea walls.

I have pet carriers ready for my bunny and my cat should things get any worse but if it gets worse than last night I am big trouble. Last night was worse than the hurricanes we got this summer.

to my Middlesex County NJ friends. if you have Middlesex Water Company we are under a boil water advisory please go to their website for instructions

Thanks. News 12 is also announcing the alert. My water is now on, it was off for hours. I boiled water to make gravy for pepper steak. I used bottled water to make tea. My shingles are all over the front and back lawn, but I can't get in tough with NJMfg Inc, their voice mail box is FULL.

Sussex County here, that storm was crazy! We are lucky to be high enough that we don't see flooding often but there are trees down, one in our yard decided to split sometime yesterday. DH was in AC for a bachelor party and got detoured right before he got home at 2am this morning. We only lost power for a minute, I was really surprised. Let's hope the rain lets up for awhile now :goodvibes I heard lots of schools are closed or delayed for tomorrow too

...well, Lodi is FAMOUS for flooding.....water POURED into our basement, right under my DS's bed, so when he got out of it last night, it was all SQUISHY under his feet! :earseek: Today, he removed the wood flooring AND the carpeting underneath and started tiling that part of the room - WHAT A MESS!

I just put channel 5 news on and they're reporting that two people were killed by a downed tree in Teaneck....

...I heard about that too...my nephew's car is now 'totalled'....he works in Edgewater and his car was parked in the employee parking lot, which is not too far from the Hudson River. The water got in while he was trying to move it - the water was up to his waste WHILE HE WAS SITTING IN THE CAR! Actually, two other cars went floating down the Hudson.....

I grew up in New Milford-the football field is under water, and the Hackensack River is rising now because of the tides so there may be more flooding in the usual places before this is over.
Dumont's Selzer School was badly damaged.
My husband is on the fire dept and they had 28 calls between 6:15 last night and this morning.
The people killed in Teaneck were walking home from synagogue.:guilty: Not a good night to be out walking. Very sad.

There were trees down everywhere in Bergenfield, we couldn't drive 3 blocks without having to be rerouted. Schools are closed tomorrow even though power has been restored to much of the town.
We were without power for 24 hours. I brought all my frozen food up to my husband's firehouse so at least I saved that. LOL I was so happy when my lights came back on-mostly for the heat, it was starting to get chilly in here!

Where at? I was at Edgewater Commons today and everything looked fine, especially compared to Englewood Cliffs.

ETA:
When driving through this morning I see the parking lot now. By the Comfort Inn and tennis courts? It looked like a mess.

We flooded in Manville. Our home is elevated 3 feet off the ground and got water all around the house, stopping 6 inches from the first floor.
So new panel box, furnace, hot water heater, ac unit. Then we need to remove the debris from the basement, around the house and the shed. Hopefully insurance will cover most.
I hate rain!!

Just got cable tv, Internet and phone back. It's been out since Saturday. Luckily we never lost power like many. We had a big evergreen tree come down and it's resting on the house.

...the hospital - it's either in Edgewater or North Bergen, down there by he Hudson...you know, the hospital, where you go in for a hang nail, and never come out alive....
