This certainly is tragic, but then again the death of ANY 28 year old with a promising career is a tragic event. Just because this 28 year old happened to have a highly visible promising career doesn't make his death any more or less tragic than anybody else's death.

They just had an interview with an editor from People Magazine on the Today show and it really irritated me because it was so obvious they were trying to titilate the viewers. The editor kept insinuating things about Mr. Ledger's mental status and drug use but then would try to backpedal and say "oh but I'm not going to try to diagnose him" and crap like that. I really did not like the way he would make those insinuations and then try to cover his assets. Sickening.

I was so shocked when I heard. I loved him in 10 Things I Hate About You. He's my second teen celebrity crush (I was a teen at the time) to pass on too soon (first was Jonathan Brandis several years ago).

I just heard that Fred Phelps and the rest of Satan's little helpers (otherwise known as the Westboro Baptist Church) have released a statement about their plan to picket the funeral.

I doubt they'll fly to Perth Australia to do it....

I'm also of the camp we need to wait for the autopsy reports to find out what happened. As pointed out, with long flights behind him and fighting a respiratory issue, it could all be related to something completely different than drugs...

I don't know why they have to keep making a point of saying he was found naked as though that is some really juicy information. He was in his own apartment in his own bed. Doesn't seem strange to me that he was naked.

The naked body in the bedroom surrounded by pills is reminiscent of the Marilyn Monroe death scene and that could be why the press keeps harping on those details. It is a classic Hollywood death.

His death had nothing to do with the movie. The movie was make believe. Heath isn't gay.

Even if he were gay, IMO, that should not give you any right to hound him during his lifetime or hound his family mourning his passing at his funeral. There are these qualities called decency and compassion, which Phelps and his minions completely lack, which is especially problematic given that they identify as Christian. Somehow I doubt Christ would taunt, hound, and spew vile words at mourners.

And one of these days, they are going to pick on the wrong person and the world will be released from their sick presence.

I feel for his family, any loss of a loved one is tragic without the media feeding on the event. I do hope it wasn't drug related. It's sad that this is the first thing the media focuses on, when there's no conclusive justification for doing so. I hope Heath was smarter than that. I have no tolerance for those who are selfish enough to do that sort of thing to their families. Dying of a drug overdose is not tragic, it's stupid.

The doctors doing the autopsy say that he had pneumonia and they think he accidentally overdosed on a mix of sleeping pills and antibiotics. Poor guy was probably just trying to get better and catch some sleep and instead wound up dead. This serves as a warning to follow exactly what the dosage instructions are on a package. So sad and such an accidental death. In a way I feel a bit better knowing that it wasn't suicide.

Yes, you meant them. They view Heath Ledger and anyone who in anyway supports gay people individually (as in supporting your gay son with love and affection) or as a group (as in PFLAG) as "gay enablers". Gay Enablers, in Phelps' sick view, have a special place in hell waiting for them.

These sickos picketed two churches with which I have worked and let me tell you, they are evil personified. I truly felt when I looked into their faces that I was looking into the face of evil.

Thanks for the information that he was found in his bed and not face down on the floor. I'm pretty sure that's what the news was reporting early on, but as usual, they don't always get it right when it's a breaking story. Ditto for the sleeping pills.

As to the autopsy being incomplete, how on earth did they get toxicology results back already? My guess is, they did not and will have to wait on them to reach their conclusion.

As for the Phelps group, all I can say is, they should be thanking God that no one has attempted to harm them in any way. I would never advocate for such violence, but I am truly shocked that there have been no attempts on any of their lives.

Apparently there is loads of anecdotal evidence that would indicate that while his death was accidental, he had certain lifestyle issues that put him at great risk of such an accident. I found this article to be an interesting read.
