Heath Ledger has passed away :MEMORIAL PICS POSTED

Yeah, that post really got to me too!:confused3
I reread to make sure I was clear on the poster's intention. I sure hope no one ever wishes something like that on my family so a lesson could be learned. geez:sad1:

I kept hoping I read it wrong. :confused3 None of my childhood favorites had to die to get me to stay away from drugs.

This is just so sad. I really liked him. :(

Just a few thoughts that may have already been mentioned. Do you think he would have tried to commit suicide when the massuese was on her way over?

Also, on the drug overdose theory. I'm wondering - what if he was just doing a little drugs to enhance his massage (or if he's an addict, make it through the day)? I'm thinking he snorted those Rx drugs he had. Why else do you roll up a bill?

So sad. I wish we hadn't lost him so early. It's like when River Phoenix died. We'll never know what he really could have give the world with his amazing skills.

Thats pretty cold. You're right it does sound mean, very mean. Are you unable to teach lifes lessons to your children and also teach them tolerance?
No, I'm really not. Some people might be, I'm just not one of them.

I want my children to have no tolerance for drugs and to have nothing but contempt for those who do them. I want them to think that if they do drugs it will harm or kill them and that smart people will laugh at them for being so stupid. I want them in the group of kids who are laughing at how stupid the ones who are taking the drugs are.

When they are older, they can feel sorry for people who get themselves that screwed up. But for now, I want them to have no tolerance for those folks. In fact, the further away from the druggies that I can push my kids, the better.

I don't want anyone to die. But when they do, I take full advantage of it. As upset as this seems to make some DISers, it doesn't actually do the dead person or those who grieve them any harm.

I take no offense to you having that conversation WHEN/IF someone is CONFIRMED to have died of a drug overdose.

What makes me sick is that you stated that you HOPE that it was drugs. That is disgusting.

I sincerely hope for HIS child and HIS family that this was an accident.

For his family, I hope that. For mine, I hope the other way. It doesn't matter what I hope for. My hopes don't change anything. If you need proof of that, call the Ohio Lottery Commission. ;)

But, however he died won't make much difference to his family. A medical condition won't make him any less dead. But, I suppose that it not being drugs would mean they didn't have to blame him and be angry and go through all that. So, for them, I'll hope medical. :)

I don't think one post on this site has ever effected me more than this one.

You actually hope that a young man died of a drug overdose so you can teach your kids a lesson? Who cares about HIS child or HIS family? Or maybe some of his fans who all hope this was a tragic accident?

I can't even form thoughts.

I agree :scared1: OMG, you can use a real life action to make your point, but for the love of god you hope this young man died of a drug overdose?? That's just disgusting.

Personally, how many of us could find ourselves in some sort of situation like this? Anyone who takes any prescription medication could possibly be at risk, I know I've worried about this myself. I have a progressive disease that will ultimately kill me, my medications can vary based on my symptoms, I'm worried one of these days I'll find myself inadvertently taking too much of something I've been prescribed, it happens... particularly if you are sick with something else like pneumonia in the first place.....

This man has said he was prescribed Ambien, and they found anti-anxiety medicines in the apartment, he was known to have an anxiety problem. Plus, he was dx'd with pneumonia this past weekend, maybe the doctor who diagnosed him should have put him in the hospital? I have no idea, but I refuse to believe this was a planned drug overdose until toxicology proves me wrong, I choose to believe that this poor man was taking his prescribed drugs as they were meant to be prescribed and something went horribly wrong.

We had a friend die at the age of 42 for NO apparent reason. Case closed. autopsy was inconclusive, there were no drugs, there were no tests that showed anything of any kind. His father however had died at the age of 40 from cardiac arrest, so we all suspect it was some sort of hereditary problem.....

But still, all this conjecture and for what? He had two prescription bottles in the apartment, and I'm sure there are people here who have a lot more than two bottles of prescriptions in their homes, you cannot draw accurate conclusions based on what we know as fact...

Fair enough. Your logic still bothers me, but I really don't want to argue...or feel this sick feeling in my tummy anymore, so I'll just pretend you said exactly what I wanted you to say. ;)

But I do like it when the celebs die from drug overdoses. It gives DH and I the opportunity to talk to the kids about drugs without actually doing it. You lecture, it generally goes in one ear and out the other.

Something like this, though, would be an excellent opportunity. I'll say, "Did you hear another of those Hollywood morons did himself in?" He'll say, "No!" Then I'll say, "Heath Ledger. You know who he was, Mindy?" and DD will say that she does and she likes him, he was in this or that. And I'll add, "Well, now he's nowhere. He's dead. Idiot." And I'll turn back to DH and say, "Will those people NEVER LEARN?! You take drugs, you might die!" And he'll add that they won't learn because they're stupid. We'll laught at him and then move on to some other topic.

It sounds mean, but it is how we drive it home to our kids. Taking drugs is stupid and can kill you. If you do it, you are stupid and risking your life.

I don't personally care about this guy or mean him any harm. But I take my opportunities where I can grab them. So, I'm kind of hoping - if he has to be dead, anyway - that it was drugs.

Wow:sad2: what compassion...but as long as it gives you a chance to have a "life lesson" with your kids.:confused3

IMHO...a "shocking" tale of someone's early demise may teach your kids to never do drugs, but there is no guarantee with this one!

As someone who works in a school we are always asking "What's wrong with kids today, why don't they have empathy for others?"

I think my question has been answered...
I feel all warm and fuzzy now...:cloud9:

No kidding .I worry about this with Ed all the time...Hey ,so if Ed overdoses one day because he forgetful or sick and disoriented people can use him as an example of a horrible drug abuser...Let not forget though that both the drugs Heath took and those Ed takes are prescribed by a doctor...What's the difference? They are both just evil druggies.
Hey, here's an idea. Maybe after I die people can use me as an example of why people shouldn't have unprotected sex..I mean, I'll be dead . Who Cares?

Editing to add a preliminary statement! I started writing this after cool-beans (an MD, yes, from posts I've read recently?) wrote his/her post...took quite awhile to write b/c I didn't want to react to his/her post (and I didn't). I only mention this b/c I didn't read anything after that post, before finally finishing this post and posting...but now I worry some might think I read everything but posted anyway...this was from before anyone replied to his/her post.

I feel so sad for him, his girl, Ms Wiliams and family. I've really only seen him in 10 Things (fave Shakespeare re-make, in my opinion), but he seemed to be a great actor. And I can't help but remember that 10 Things was filmed in my town, at the HS not a half mile away from me, with other scenes filmed not a half mile the other way, and I had just moved back here when it was being filmed. (it was set in Seattle but mainly filmed in Tacoma)

It's all so sad.

And then I think about 28 year old stars, and what a scary age that must be, if you're in the that sort of line of work...Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison...Janis Joplin was 27... I don't do anything along those lines of work, but I remember hitting 27 and 28 and thinking about those stars (my mom was a hippie, can you tell?).

We've been cleaning our apartment and DS found DH's figurine of Brandon Lee's character from The Crow (is that right?). The character is wearing the same sort of face makeup as the pictures of HL as the Joker...he couldn't help but think of Brandon Lee (also 28!) and of course Bruce Lee, both dying SO young as they were about to really break out (not that HL hadn't broken out several times already, and of course Bruce Lee was breaking out in America, he had been famous in Asia already), and how odd the makeup thing was.

So sad.

Regardless of how it turns out HL died, I couldn't help but notice a quote of his use of Ambien...I don't know what his prescription dose was, but it seems 2 pills might not have been correct (he mentions taking 2). Since I was almost the victim of my stupidity, when I was taking 2 Aleve per day and wound up with "naproxen poisoning", I am VERY careful with that sort of drug. I read the package inserts of everything. I also tend to have backwards reactions to drugs, and weird reactions (the naproxen reaction is RARE in an otherwise healthy person), so I'm even more careful. If I took 2 sleeping pills and woke up an hour later I would stop taking them.

So even if they had NOTHING to do with his death, I think some of the things I'm reading about what he was prescribed should be a wake up call (sad that we need yet another) for anyone taking prescription drugs to be careful.

People here have reported they read he had, or had had, pneumonia...

From drugs.com (excellent resource if your eyes can't take the small print of drug info inserts) and msn.com...

Ambien ....
Before taking this medication, tell your doctor ... if you have:...

lung disease such as asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD);

He said he took two Ambien pills, which only worked for an hour.

An overdose of Ambien can be fatal when it is taken together with other medications that can cause drowsiness.

Authorities found ... an antihistamine

Just be careful. Know what you're taking, and if you're taking something with scary side-effects like Ambien has, do not take it while alone. Know what you're taking and all the combined effects with anything else in your health history and what else you might be taking.

Even if that has nothing to do with him, the speculation to me has shined a spotlight on something we should all be cautious about.

Poor Heath.

This is so heartless and over the top that it cracks me up!:rotfl2:

I have never used drugs and never even been drunk and my parents were able to drive home the anti-drug message without secretly hoping that a public figure died of an overdose. Maybe that is why I am drug free AND compassionate.

And just to elaborate a little more...his bed was just a mattress on the floor. Apparently not a very far move from bed to floor.

I watched a news segment this morning from a recent interview. I thought he seemed strained and uncomfortable. My husbands thought was that he was just that type of guy. I have never observed one of his interviews before so I couldnt tell if this was just his normal behavior.

I've seen a few of Heath's interviews and you can really tell he did not enjoy them. In all the ones I have seen he seemed nervous , shy and uncomfortable. He always seemed really nice but you could just tell that he did not enjoy doing interviews.

Jenny, you are EXACTLY right based on what was written, Ed and I can be used as the druggies that accidentally took too much of something on a particular day when perhaps something else was going wrong, or aggravating our conditions, and because we're managing our healthcare on our own at home, not in a hospital, we took too much or something reacted adversely, whatever the case. We should be remembered for being druggies... And you're right, you'll be dead, heck Ed & I will be dead, so who cares?? At least we can be the role models for the youth  it's a horrific thing to say about someone who has passed in the most tragic way at not even the peak of his life.... just horrible...

I'm sorry, your reasoning is ridiculous, and might just backfire on you... you try to push your kids away from using drugs by using something like this as your mechanism? It's not going to work. They will not remember, it will not be relevant to THEIR lives and THEIR particular circumstance.

You know, I never touched drugs, even though my mother for all that she was, was a prescription drug abuser while I was very young... you know why I never touched them? It wasn't her or her actions, it wasn't that someone died that I knew of... you know why? I knew in my heart of hearts and in my brain I WAS TOO GOOD FOR THAT, I was too smart for it, I was too logical, I had too much SELF ESTEEM, I knew I could make good decisions for myself when left to my own devices, and without the use of anything that would damper my sense of reasoning. I knew this from my young teenage years, I didn't need anyone dying to prove this to me, I knew it for myself. You want to do your kids a favor? You make them feel loved, wanted, cared for, let them know they are good enough, NO, BETTER than those around them who do these things... you will get kids who listen to you and respect you.

I'm sorry, but if I had ever heard any adult in my life say what you said, I would think far less of them as human beings, to be so predatory in nature, it's the root of evil.

I don't hope that this man's death was from drugs, I pray it wasn't, but if it was, I will continue to have concern for all patients who take maintenance drugs to keep us out of hospitals, because for all the care and caution I have, I still have a deadly disease that at some point, could/will wreak havoc I don't know about, and I'm worried those maintenance drugs I take on a daily basis will somehow one day react badly... I worry about it every day of my life, but it's either take them and be able to actually, literally get out of bed into a wheelchair, or just go now, it's a fine line... perhaps he didn't have a deadly disease, but he did have pneumonia which kills Americans every year... all patients who deal with drugs on a daily basis should be worried about what it is they take and what they put in their bodies, and how they are putting it in.

Ahh but the vultures are a-circling' . As reported by yahoo news:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080123/ap_on_en_mo/obit_ledger

They found a "rolled up $20 bill". Being tested for drug residue apparently.

The crap they had on Inside Edition and Access Hollywood are just sooooooo stupid. One of them said something about how uncomfortable he was in an interview and was peeling an orange, like that was a clue to his death!
