I saw this article in the local community paper here, the Shelby Suntimes. I thought you might like it.
St. Agnes Academy students "Make-A-Wish" come true
The St. Agnes Academt sophmore class made wishes come true for a seriously ill seven-year-old named Kira. During an assembly that was "straight out of Hollywood," members of the sophmore class dressed as characters from Walt Disney and the Nickelodeon Channel. Kira was the star for the day!
Dressed in a tiara and boa, she was showered with gifts as she answered questions about her favorite Nickelodeon television shows. At the end of the program, a FedEx delivery was made- tickets to Disney World and Nickelodeon for Kira and her family.
The sophmore class was participating in Make-A-Wish's "Kids for Wish Kids," a new program that involves children helping children. St. Agnes sophmore Maria Wedamen organized the project. The sophmore class raised over $6, 800 through various funraisers including bake sales and roadblocks. The students were involved in every aspect of the wish from raising money, to buying presents for Kira, to planning the special wish granting ceremony.
Through the Kids for Wish Kids program, team-building skills are developed as children learn to count their blessings and have the opportunity to see the fruits of their labor and hopefully begin a lifetime of giving.
