Healthy YUMMY Snacks...Post em!!!

I love any veggie dipped in Hummus! Yummy!!!

Hard boiled egg, string cheese, swiss cheese, immitation crab meat with a little Old Bay sprinkled on top, sugar free Jello, and regular almonds with a few dark chocalate covered almonds are delish. Fruit, plain yogurt and granola is good too.

I'm on a pretty strict diet and almost everything I losted is on it's approved list.

Great ideas!:cool1: I'll add shaved deli turkey or ham w/ a smear of low fat cream cheese or a light laughing cow cheese wedge, then wrapped around a dill pickle-yum! Another one is sliced cucumber tossed w/ a bit of rice vinegar & soy sauce, then sprinkle some sesame seeds on top. PF Changs has something similiar for an appetizer.

"celery is a member of the plywood family?" What does that mean?

Fruit and lots of different kinds. I buy what's in season and small amounts of it, so it doesn't rot. I also buy frozen fruit of several varities.....Publix has great quality....peaches, strawberries, black cherries, blueberries, bananas, pineapple, cranberries, etc. I like to take out a few bags and make my own fruit cup with some different fruits. I let it thaw a bit and eat it as is. If the fruit is a little tart, I may add a dollop of low-cal Cool Whip.

I also have been slowly getting away from sweets, which has reduced the sweet tooth craving, along with the fruit snacking. I think my body is used to a different kind of sugar? I don't know.

I also like to snack on peanuts, in addition to fresh fruit and lite yogurt. Since we have started doing this, we just find ourselves eating less and buying less junk. It was a slow, deliberate change that has been very beneficial. Occasionally, we still buy ice cream or some chocolate, but they are savored in our new found moderation.

Another little change I've made is using dark greens for salad and lettuce. I won't eat iceberg lettuce anymore and prefer romaine or spinach. I substitute leaf spinach for lettuce on sandwiches and burgers and it has been no hardship or sacrifice at all. We haven't gone super healthy or calorie conscious here, but little changes made over time do add up. I don't do fad diets or pills and I hope trying to acquire new eating and exercising habits will result in healthy changes and sustainable results.

Also, I have been discovering that since I adopted a more active fitness routine of cardio, strength training and yoga, my appetite has changed. I crave less junk. Thanks to a DISer's tip, I bought a Polar heart monitor and I track calories burned during workouts, which makes things more efficient and helps me work smarter. All in all, I'm toner and stronger and the muscle gain is starting to burn the fat....no matter what I eat.

Good luck with your new habits and changes!

I have heard that if you eat an apple (or drink a glass of water) before a meal, you will eat less. Doesn't have anything to do with snacking, but thought I would throw it out there.

I like apples as diet snacks, but I hate eating a WHOLE apple. If I cut it up into slices, I enjoy it more. Try dipping slices in peanut butter or Hershey's Syrup for a nice sweet snack.

Carrots, broccoli, plywoo... I mean celery :rotfl:, and green pepper dipped in a lower fat dressing is a nice snack. Fills me up and doesn't leave me feeling guilty. It's my "potato chip" alternative when I need something crispy.

Rice Cakes with peanut butter, Nutella, or sugar free jelly on them.

Lower fat beef jerky.

Raisins, dried cherries and cranberries mixed with a few chocolate chips.

I really like this Fruit2Day stuff. It's juice with fruit bits in. It's 100% all natural, and only 120 calories a bottle, with 2 servings of fruit.

Here is a very easy snack to make, and it tastes wonderful...
It's just about a cup of frozen blueberry's (more if you want it chunky) and a 6 Oz cup of any flavor yogurt, And you've got a smoothie fit for a king! and it won't cost you five dollars from the smoothie joint.:thumbsup2 It's very convenient to have a Magic bullet for this task, but I'm sure any blender would work.

For sweet stuff, I love sugar-free pudding cups, especially rice pudding (feels more filling to me than other, "non-chewy," pudding)--they're only 60 calories a pop. I also love the 100-calorie snack packs, particularly the Mr. Salty chocolate-covered pretzels and Hostess mini cupcakes (the strawberry and lemon ones are delightful!)

I like apples as diet snacks, but I hate eating a WHOLE apple. If I cut it up into slices, I enjoy it more.

Me too! I enjoy apples only when they're sliced. I like to slice them (especially Pink Lady or Gala apples) and open a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese to eat with them. So yummy!

Ooh, I forgot to mention, 1 snack that I love to have that's fairly healthy (I think) is the Rold Gold Honey Wheat Braided pretzels- for 8 pretzels it is 110 calories and they are sweet and salty. YUM!

Apples and pears (both sliced)are my two favorite fruits to just eat. My favorite snack is yogurt with berries (strawberries, blueberries, and pomegranate seeds are the best) or yogurt and low fat granola.

Raw almonds or dried fruit (with no sugar added) are also always in the pantry.

I also usually have some energy or meal replacement bars in the house. I like Cliff Bars the best but have them for breakfast. For snacks I usually either have a Larabar or one of the ThinkThin bars.

I just like a regular piece of fruit or veggies as snacks. I don't go for those gimmicky packages of 100-cal snacks at all. Not satisfying IMHO and usually loaded with sodium.

I love grapes, apples, bananas, baby carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, and bell peppers. I'll use about one T of salad dressing on the broc or cauli, and occasionally a small smear of cream cheese on the pepper, but usually eat all of the other stuff as nature intended.

Too funny that you mentioned lunchmeat with a pickle. I do taht all the time and Love it! Nothing better than a couple of slices of deli ham spread with a bit of low fat cream cheese wrapped around a pickle YUM!

I LOVE popcorn and buy it in bulk. I bought a microwave popcorn bowl at Target once and I use almost every day! Even a tablespoon of butter on popcorn doesnt amount to much in the way of calories, at least when you consider the alertnative. Sometimes I will sprinkle butter buds on it but again more chemicals I cant pronounce which is why I dont buy the microwave popcorn anymore.

Another snack I like that goes a long ways:
Low fat tortillas, cut into wedges then sprayed with pam, sprinkled with a bit of cinnamon and sugar then bake until crisp.

I like apples cut up with peanut butter but also sprinkling cinnamon on top.

If you want a warm snack, core an apple, add a small amount of cinnamon and brown sugar into it then microwave until soft. Top with some fat free yogurt of your choice or low fat cool whip and youre good to go!

Low fat peanut butter on graham crackers is also good even though its a little heavier on the calories.

Ive made the cool whip sandwhiches before but used chocolate graham crackers with fat free cool whip. They taste just like an inc cream sandwhich but are only one point on WW.

Old Weight Watcher's snack: frozen halved banana. Tastes like ice cream! Ok, you have to be on a diet...

Since you like chips and salsa, you may liek this tip that I read on the DIS--dip sliced cucmbers in the salsa instead of the chips. You still get the crunch and the flavour of the salsa without the fat/calories and sodium from the ships.

Others have mentioned popcorn which is my snack of choice. I still pop it on the stove. I use just a bit of olive oil to pop it in and put a dahs of sea salt on top.

I also have taken to chewing sugarless gum when I want an evening snack. Since i am not really hungry--just craving "taste" the gum does the trick most of the time.

Thomas's Bagels has a new 110 calorie bagel. I top that with 30 cal Laughing Cow cheese, it's delicious!
