Hi there! DMom & DDad are taking some friends to WDW in December for a short week at BCV - one of them is newly diagnosed with a medical condition and needs to keep an eye on what they're eating. (I.e., less meat & potatoes, more fish.)

They are on DxDDP and have lots of ressies: Jiko, Cali Grill, Prime Time, LTT, Le Cellier, Rose & Crown, and I'm sure many more I'm missing.

Hoping to hear some of your favorite healthy choices - as well as any other restaurant suggestions (they're trying to switch up a few) or tips for finding the right item on the menu.

Thanks! :goodvibes

Go onto allears.net. This is a great site that has all the Disney menus. You can see the menu items at all the DIsney restaurants, including counter service! As far as snacks, I don't know what they are limited to, but you can get a bottle of water or other beverage, or fruit as a snack. You don't have to get candy, cake, cookies or ice cream. Also, for dessert many times a restaurant will give you fresh fruit or they can skip dessert. On the deluxe plan apps are also included and they may not be hungry enough to eat dessert as well. I believe all the TS restaurants also have vegetables served with their entrees. You could probably ask to skip the potato and substitute extra vegetables instead.

I am intrested as well.. I am not a red meat eater... more fish (seafood) and chicken..

thanks.

I love AllEars! :goodvibes (I get hungry just reading the menus...)

Thanks for the fruit instead of dessert - that's great idea! And subbing extra veggies instead of potatoes - I hadn't thought of either of those!

I'd love to hear some of the favorite fish/healthier dishes of other DISers. :)

I try to eat fairly healthy too and am a pescetarian, so I know about the less "meat and potatoes"!
My favorite restaurant for "healthy choices" is actually Sunshine Seasons, the salads are fantastic, especially the seared tuna!

I haven't been to any of the restaurants you mentioned, yet, although some of them I'm planning on going to in February, so I've checked out the menus.
At 50's Prime - Time - the Tuna Casserole sounds great! It's actually a piece of grilled tuna with noodles! I love tuna, so I'm interested! Plus, it's not fried fish.
Le Cellier - The Salmon 2 ways sounds delicious! I'm debating between that and the potato gnocchi, the gnocchi is probably going to win though.
Cali Grill - Sushi, sushi, sushi, although they have a spiced tuna entree and a scallop entree that both sound fantastic
Jiko - I've heard good things about the Halibut, but I'd probably get the shrimp, I love rice!

LTT seems like it would be the tough one. It's essentially a holiday meal, lots of roasted meats and potatoes, I actually have no interest in going there. BUT the roasted turkey I'm sure is fine with lots of veggies.

Essentially what I look for is something not fried with a selection of veggies with it!

Thanks for the suggestions!

There's gnocchi at LC?! I might have to order that when I go with the whole fam in May!

Jiko shrimp & rice sounds yummy - their friends said they love shrimp!

I'm thinking they might try to switch the LTT ressie to Kona Cafe or something like that...

I highly recommend Kona. My DH and I had a datenight there last February and enjoyed it. The TUNA OSCAR is my favorite entree anywhere, ever! SO good!

I agree 100%.

They have salmon, roasted beet and goat cheese salad, Grilled tuna salad and some really nice ham sandwiches that can be shared if you are trying to be good.

For a TS there is the Wave in the CR.
I have not been here, but I think the focus is healthy eating.

I wholeheartedly agree...I love Sunshine Seasons. I love their Rotisserie Chicken that comes with vegetables.

I dont eat red meat. But I've noticed that pretty much every TS restaurant has at least 1 chicken, 1 fish, and 1 vegetarian entree choice.

They have a salad at Liberty Tree Tavern that is good but they put a ton of cheese and dressing on it! I'd ask for the dressing on the side.

You can always call ahead for a special menu.

I love how accommodating Disney can be! :goodvibes

I REALLY want to try the tuna oscar!!! I know DMom is trying to get into 'Ohana, but I'm thinking Kona would be a better option.

I'll make sure they keep Sunshine Seasons in mind. I often forget about that place!

That sounds like a perfect meal! :thumbsup2

That's reassuring! :)

Thanks for the tip!

While red meat generally has more fat and calories, I would concentrate more on preparation than the actual food. Fried veggies (chinese tempura, etc) and fried chicken and fish are worse than a lean cut of grilled pork or steak. I find it is generally easier to find healthy alternatives at TS restaurants. I read the menu trying to mix and match what sounds best to me. If I know they serve fried halibut I may ask that it be served grilled with a side of steamed veggies that I saw was originally paired with a steak. Also ask for sauces (especially cream sauces) be served on the side.

Another hidden deadly on menus are salad dressings, they are loaded with fat and calories. Ask that croutons, cheese and dressings are served on the side so you can control the portion.

-i had deluxe and got a salad as my app. with most meals, thats one way to load up on healthy veggies, and a number had almonds or walnuts in them.
-the wave in CR has some healthy breakfast options i noticed when i was there, a lot of whole grains and smoothies were offered.
-if you go to AK then try yak & yeti, many stir-fry veggie type meals.
-i second, ok maybe im the third or fourth to say sunshine seasons foodcourt.
-personally i felt like i ate a ton of meat while in WDW since i normally dont eat that many meals a day or that much meat. as for healthy meat though the bison i had at artists point was great and is very low in fat.
