Heads Up if you are Planning to Ride POC

Ok, good. It wasn't just my imagination! When we rode this during our last trip, the water cannons were way more powerful than I remember them being. I love the smell of the water in POC, but that doesn't mean I want to smell like it for the rest of the night until I can shower again. :duck:

My family and I rode this ride in September of last year, and we were seated in row 2. There was an older couple sitting in front of us and they were completely soaked after the drop. My dad got really wet from the cannons (he was sitting on the left-hand side of the boat), but my mother and I did not get wet. I also remember bumping into things a lot more than the old boats used to. It was really bad near the end of the ride when there was a backup unloading the boats.

I thought I was going crazy! I rode it in January with my friend. We rode at night because it had been down intermittently during the day. I don't remember which row we were in, but either way, as soon as we reached the bottom of the drop, we had gotten SOAKED. I even got hit in the face with water, which kind of grossed me out...blegh.

And then there were the cannons. Oh yes, I was a victim of those. Our boat got stopped there for a while, and I was the one who kept getting sprayed! I was definitely not happy at that point.

And like others have said, that bumping at the end of the ride is so unreal. I've dealt with it in the past, but it was just a few boats, every once in a while, and I thought it was kind of fun! But now? It's tons of boats all at once, and they are literally ramming into one another. To the point where it's painful! And I did see some younger kids getting jostled around with the bumping. It was scary.

How long have these new boats been in use, because I rode it at around midnight in December and got wetter on it than ever and I would have thought twice about riding it at night if I knew I was going to get that wet.

We rode on the new boats last October and noticed the same thing many posters are talking about...we got a lot wetter than we used to.

So, do you think we will get weird looks if we don our rain parkas while in the queue? I really, really do not want to get POTC water on me.

I'll be there in Sept and will probably be the only one with a poncho!! Are people complaining to guest services about this. Sounds like POC really needs to change the boats somehow or will they wait until someone gets hurt and then address this.

I had actually read someone else's warning about the front seats before our trip 2 weeks ago. So when we went to POTC, the CM wanted to put us in front row and I said no way! Thankfully we were ok in the middle, but the family in the front row was not happy when they got off.

How are the CM's about allowing guests to choose their seating? Are they cool about it and understanding or do they get annoyed?

All I know is I will not be riding in the front so, I hope the CM's won't get too frustrated with us. No way I want to get wet on this ride.

FYI... After reading this you will most definitely NOT be the only one there in September wearing a poncho on POC! I'll be right there with you wearing one! I bet my family looks at me like I'm crazy!

After all the other posts about how gross the water is on POC, I'm kind of not wanting to ride it now. I'm also feeling a little jipped because I have never gotten wet on Splash. :-(

Forget the front row....that was only mildly wet for me the past few times. What did me in 2 days ago were the water cannons!! My hair and lap were soaked. Something was way off with the timing on there and a CM said it happened every 3 boats or so.

This. Thankfully we were able to avoid the cannons when we rode earlier this month but we were in the second to last row and it was soaked when we got into the boat. The poor people in it before us had to have been slammed with water. :sad2:

Someone should send a water sample for testing to see what is really in the water.

:lmao:

I had not seen this thread until now, but my wife and I rode POC last night during the 24 hour party, and I commented immediately, "Did they change something? Why can I feel the guide track or rollers under us?" I had no idea they were brand new boats. We also noticed we were a lot lower in the water than before, but we thought it was because the boat had too many adults in it. I was in the back, but I could heard a lady curse very loudly when she got splashed!

I may be in the minority, but I don't think this is a big deal. I can understand the thread in order to give people the heads up, but I don't think it's a big enough reason to get upset about.

I got soaked several times in the old boats, so I couldn't care less. Still love POC. But then again, I always see people on the rides with water (POC, SM, etc..) that seem upset that they may get wet before they've even got on the ride.

We were at WDW the first week of May and rode POTC. Front row got our legs from the knees down soak. Our boat was full. I was like "What?!" lol it was ok though...the water cannons got us wet a bit but one thing I thought wasn't safe was an air cannon blasted right in my face and hit my eye HARD. My eye was irritated the rest of the ride but it was fine...made me leary to look around after that in that scene...
Still love it though!

After reading this thread, I'll be bringing 2 sets of ponchos for everyone: for Kali and now for POTC. I don't like getting wet if I can avoid it. A rainstorm is one thing, but ishy ride water? NO. It makes me think of the Simpsons episode where they go to Krustyland amusement park and Bart drinks the water in a ride, then hallucinates. :hippie:

Last time I was at WDW (about a year ago) I started unfolding ponchos near the rafts at Kali, to the consternation or amusement of those around me. When we got off, everyone else in our boat soaked to the skin, and us bone dry, the people waiting to get on the rafts gladly grabbed our ponchos as we took them off. Too bad we'll have to do the same for POTC, which heretofore was not known as a 'wet' ride.

My main concern is the bumping of boats and if kids were to fall overboard.

As for getting wet...I don't mind getting wet if the ride is meant to and treated as a ride that gets people wet. I'm not a germaphobe or anything but I would worry about the cleanliness of the water. I dont know if the POC water is treated or not. Some of the PP have alluded that Spash is treated with chemicals more like a pool. I would assume Kali is too. If the object of the new POC updates are to splash a little more I would hope they would take water cleanliness into consideration.

C'mon they spent the time and money to put, "Do not enter the water if you are ill with diarrhea" on the signs. I would hope that people would KNOW that, but guess not. So, spend a little extra time and money and test/treat the water if that isnt being done. I dont ever remember reading the POC signs but if it doesnt say, "You have the potential to get wet or even soaked" on the signs, they just should add that on too.

The bumping/smashing isn't good to hear, but I love that there is now the thrill of getting wet for real! Makes it more exciting.

Do they still have the mermaid projections? And have they changed the mist so that Davy Jones is back or alternating with Blackbeard?

We rode front row Sept/Oct (new boats) and did not experience this. :confused3

No wetter or bumpy than usual, however, the canons did seem to blast closer.
