Heads Up if you are Planning to Ride POC

Do those of you who are getting your knees slammed feel that height is an issue? Just wondering if it's because you are taller? Or would kids and short people not be affected? I'm really not up for getting slammed around on rides and will forgo POC if necessary. It's a shame because it used to be a tame ride.

I'm 5'8, so not super tall, and my knee got slammed in the back row. DH, who is 5'11, was sitting next to me and didn't get slammed, so it might be that those who weigh less are more likely to be tossed around? Regardless, I would definitely try to avoid the back row!

Walt Disney World. The new boats in WDW are the model that is used in Disneyland. According to the CM I spoke with, the new boats are bottoming out at the drop and people in the first row are getting hit with a "wall of water." They are aware of the problem and are working on installing signs that warn you may get wet.

That's the solution? :rotfl:

I have had two knee replacements so I am quite concerned about my knees getting slammed. I am sure other have knee replacements also. I would rather get wet! What was wrong with the old boats?

Glad I read this post. I would not be happy if my camera got wet. Having rode this ride many times I would not think to cover it. Going in Aug, I hope I remember.

First, we demand that Disney remove the new boats from Pirates of the Caribbean. There is absolutely zero good reasons to have boats that get you wet for this ride. The employee(s) that suggested changing to a new boat design for this ride and the employee(s) that accepted this suggestion should be let go. Primitive research has found that getting soaked on this ride has caused great fallout. We will no longer accept the fallout of these bad decisions. Within three months I fully expect removal of the new boats from these types of rides.

;)

Maybe they could borrow some rafts from the waterparks to use until they sort it all out? Sort of like a souped up lazy river?

I guess I missed the boat on this thread when it first got posted (you're welcome for the corny early morning pun).

I rode last August right after the new boats were put in and sat in the front row a few times (we ride POTC a lot, DHs fave ride). I did notice that some water did come in (which I never recalled it happening before), but in no way did we get soaked and I also don't recall a problem with our knees getting hurt. I'm kinda surprised to be reading that this is such a big issue? I guess I'll see again this summer since I'm sure we'll be on it a few times.

So is there a safe seat/place to sit? Away from the cannon splash, hard knocks/splash on the front row and back.

I have ridden PotC dozens of times since the boats were changed out. You get more wet now, without doubt. But more wet means more than almost not wet at all, not soaked. I have never seen a person get soaked with the new boats. I guess it is possible if you have really heavy people loaded in just the wrong way but that would be a result of the heavy people, not the ride. The same has always applied, even with the old boats.

You also get hit with splash from the water cannons, but you do not get soaked - or anything close to soaked.

As for getting knocked around - you don't get any more knocked around than before. No one has been thrown from a boat. If it was a realistic possibility, it would have happened by now.

Shouldn't have a camera out on a dark ride as this in the first place.

You can take pictures on all the dark rides so long as you DO NOT use a flash.

There are many people (myself included) who have the right equipment to get great pictures without the use of a flash.

I'd be pissed if my camera got wet on a ride where it's not supposed to. Splash Mountain is one thing. PotC is another. Even though your on a boat, it's not considered a a wet ride and neither is IaSW.
