Headless Horseman question

We are going on our first 'adults' only trip and didn't plan to attend Mickey's NSS Halloween party. After this tidbit of information and viewing these wonderful shots, perhaps we should rethink???

Paul, that's one of the best HH shots I've seen! :thumbsup2

He looks faster than he is in Paul's photo because of the panning effect. But he's still fast enough to frustrate many low light photographers.

One word of advice for any other HH photographers........ there tends to be more general lighting over in Frontierland than there is on Main Street, making that shot even harder on Main Street or in front of the castle.

Thanks!

Yes, they turn down the lights when we comes to Main Street. It's pretty dark. Plus there are tons of flashing going off. I have several shots where he has a bluish cast on him from the other flashes.

The panning does look like he is going much faster.

All I know is that it is the coolest thing ever! It gives you chills when you see it and he is really fast going by. I think it is one of my favorite parades. Especially the part when the dead people are dancing with the shovels. Creeped my daughter right out but I loved it.

Love that part of the parade!

We got this one a couple years ago in Liberty square just before the bridge. It's kind of cool because parts of it look transparent and ghostlike :scared1:

Still the best parade I've seen at WDW so far! Just awesome!

I know, right? Think I'll surprise DH with tickets this year!;)

Another question, How do they make sure no little ones run out into the street when he is coming by.. seems it would be hard for him to stop!

They clear the path just like they do for the parades.

No, it's more! You can't even have your feet on the street. You must be up on the curb. Normal parades you can sit on the curb and have your feet in road.

Not while he is coming.

Gotcha it just seems the floats at parades travel much slower.... I would think a trotting horse would be much harder to stop if needed. I just wondered about the extra precautions for the little ones. Thanks! :)

OK so I am vague on how I remember this - possibly from working in MK. But they practice with the horses they use and the horses do this blindly so as not to be spooked by the flashes in the dark since the streetlights are turned down for this. I've never seen a stop either because I think they run the horse straight through. That's why they are more than meticulous about gettign people out of the street and out of the way. It's a pretty daring/risky ride for the horse and rider! Thought this was cool - but also don't remember my source so who knows how true it is!

Pretty sure that isn't just some ordinary CM and horse riding for that parade.
That person has to be a master ridesman and the horse trained to perfection.
All of Disney's horses are picked due to their temperment, not every horse can be trained to handle the noise and crowds that those horses see.
Then that horse is trained in every circumstance, wouldn't surprise me if something like a child stepping out into the street, that the horse wouldn't do everything and anything to avoid it.
When Disney does something they do it right.

I am so excited to see this on our upcoming trip!!
