I just found out that we can order a holiday Dinner from Publix and pick it up the evening before as they are closed on Thanksgiving. There will be 13 of us and I love to cook but not at my home away from home! Does anyone know if any closer grocery store do this service also?

There is a Publix on 192 (at Xentury City) that is literally right outside WDW property. You can go on Publix website and find locations for all of their stores. If you have your resorts address you can request driving directions for each of the stores and find out which one is closest.

I don't know which DVC you are staying at, but I do know that this one is only 7 miles from OKW.

Hope that helps.

We have done the "Publix" Thanksgiving Turkey for the last three years. All you do is turn on the stove decoration - yes it really works like the one at home - and reheat it all. You do use every available bowl and dish in the cabinet to get it all on the table! There is a new Publix behind the Premium Outlets that we used this last Thanksgiving and the one on 192. This year we have a Grand Villa and finally, we will not have to throw out the left overs - enough of us to get through all the food. The smallest meal is for 6-8 and cost around $35. We enjoy an early day at MK and leave as the crowds get heavy, go back to OKW and throw the turkey and fixin's in the oven and then to the pool. It is always a relaxful holiday for us. Hope you enjoy too.

Still on the waitlist for a GV on Wed 11/26! Got all four nights before and the night on Thur 11/27. How weird? Lucky you.

Niagara2--that's the easiest Thanksgiving I ever heard of!!:p What did you get, food-wise, for $35?? You mentioned the pool--is it usually warm enough to swim, or was this year unusual? This sounds like a new plan for me, I hate cooking that Thanksgiving turkey! I have been scared off by the horrendous airport stories on the news every year.;)

The turkey package from Publix is all contained in a big white box, ready to carry to the register. It holds a 10-12 pound turkey that was pre-cooked and frozen. It will be partly thawed and will thaw in the fridge overnight. You reheat it in the oven in the cook in bag it is in and the steam and juice is great - very tender and juicy. I buy one of those aluminum throw away roasters as I really don't want a big clean up either! You also get mashed potatoes that heat in oven and dressing in a container to heat in oven. I buy aluminum foil to cover while reheating and to store. A tub of gravy also is in box. Put in a bowl to reheat in microwave, I melted it one year - now that was a mess! You also get cranberry relish as a side dish. I aslo buy fresh pies at the bakery in the store plus rolls, veggie and salad in a bag. I also get bread and mayo for the next day's sandwiches. I bring the salt and pepper from home. I literally throw the turkey in the oven, go to the pool for 2 hours, go back and put the sides in oven, set the table, make the salad and sit to a great dinner. It seems more traditional for us as a family vs. going to a restaurant. This is a day that our home away from home really feels and smells like home! Enjoy!

We are having 13 for dinner any thoughts as to making a table up for that many? We will be having two 2 bedroom units and if I remember correctly the one bedroom has a round table that sits four. Can we ask to eat in the community room if there is nothing going on by the quiet pool? I know that is a stretch but where else do you put this many people besides a GV.
