Having kids at an "advanced" age?

Hubby and I were both 37 when we started. We adopted 2 kids - so 39 for number #2. Anyway, I think it would have been much easier if we had started out as parents earlier.

I don't think it is a problem at all, I just think my stamina would have been better.

I joke that we will have to bring walkers to get around at graduation!

Wendy, thanks for your story Adoption is definitely something I have thought about, so we'll see where that road leads me.

I definitely appreciate your comment about stamina, but with me personally, I find that I'm becoming more energetic and patient as the years go by! I think it's because I'm learning to take better care of my body and am eating healthier. No more of those reckless days of youth!

My parents were 41 and 48 when I was born. Very unusual back then. I had my kids at 35, 37 and 39. Truthfully the only reason I wished I had been a little younger was so that I would have had time to have one more baby. My dad lived to 87 and my mom is 82, although she has altzheimers and I am sure she won't be around too many more years. Either way I had my parents well into adulthood. The question is does he want more kids? If so than I say find a compromise age to start trying. You never now how long it may take to have a baby. I have a pregnant friend who tried for 7 years. After a lot of treatment she is finally pregnant with her first at 37. Maybe you don't want 5 years to try, maybe find an age you both might be comfortable with.
