I just have to vent a little here, since I only have the 3 year old at home, and she has no idea what I am talking about. I have had an earache for 3 weeks. I have just been going up the street to the walk in clinic and having them check it each week because things have been so crazy around here, it is just the easiest thing to do. Each week they keep telling me that nothing is wrong with my ear, just some fluid probably due to allergy. They keep telling me to try these different allergy medicines, but nothing helps and now I can't sleep or even touch my ear or lay down on it. So I went to my regular doctor today and she said my ear is so infected and inflamed she could hardly even see into the tube. So now I have medicine, a steriod pack and ear drops. It makes me so mad that for 3 weeks the doctors at the walk in clinic could not figure this out. Okay, done venting.

Kelly -- What's up with those people on that "Poly vs. GF" thread???

Why is it everyone thinks the GF is uppity? I hate that word. Seriously, what are these people's lives like if they think the GF is "uppity"? Perhaps we should stop using that word, and start using more accurate words to describe the GF, like "refined," "classy" or "dignified". How'd those GF haters like them apples?

I don't get it. I mean, to me, and this is just one example, when kids are dancing around in the lobby like Solid Gold Dancers (does anyone remember that show?!) to the orchestra in the evenings and no one even blinks and most people think it's sweet, how it that an "uppity" place?!

OMG, that was my favorite show! It was on Saturday nights, right? Rick Dee and Marilyn McCoo were the hosts. And I remember the dancers -- that one black girl who was their lead dancer was AWESOME! I so miss that show ...

I did! One couple that got on at the Poly was very snooty and looked at me like I was an alien when I had to excuse my self to get off.

Can I just vent about work here? I sent an email to two of my research analysts, asking them to come see me in my office in 10 minutes re: a new project. Thirty minutes later, they still hadn't shown up. I go and find them. They are sitting at their desks. I ask them if they saw my email and they respond in the affirmative, and asked: "Oh, did you want us to come see you?" No sh!t, Sherlock. Did I not spell it out clearly enough in the email when I wrote: COME SEE ME IN MY OFFICE IN 10 MINUTES.

I swear, I am about to slam someone's head against the wall. And you can bet it's not my head I'm thinking of.

I've noticed, but it makes no sense for these people to feel like that since wouldn't visitors to the resorts also be getting on and off the monorail? For instance, last time, our daughter participated in the Pirates Cruise at the GF, so we dropped her off then took the monorail to Poly for breakfast. I didn't notice any weird looks. Then again, I guess my nose was stuck so high up in the air that I didn't see the commoners kneeling at my feet.

Re. some of these threads, I think a lot of people are intimidated by people who have a lot of $$$ and don't mind spending it.
We used to always stay at the GF, then I branched out and fell in love with AKL and also tried WL, BC, BWI. Plus I stayed at the CR when I was a teenager. Having stayed at these other Deluxes, I can see how some look at the GF as "uppity" or "snotty". There is a small contingent of a glitzy, flashy, status symbol-adorned TYPE that stays at GF, whether drawn there by the fact that the GF is the "flagship", or most expensive or "best" or whatever. I don't know. It's a small minority of the guests who are there but it is undeniable IMO b/c they do stand out. I find these characters sort of amusing to watch. But some people get put off by it and label the resort as a whole as "snobby". What they're really saying is, they feel as though they don't fit in. Plus, let's face it, the GF is EXPENSIVE and not an option for most travelers. Of course, so are all the Deluxes. It's like, the concept of buying a $100,000 car or a $10 million house ~ "THose people have way too much money!" Blah, blah, blah...

The fact of the matter is, some of us scrimp and save to get to stay at our favorite resorts, for some of us it's "nothing" to shell out $10,000 for a 5-day vacation... whatever. It's all relative.

I'm sorry if someone thinks the Poly sucks. I think it's amazing. I think staying in the Main Bldg at the GF (or ANY GF bldg, for that matter) is DIVINE and luckily my DH doesn't mind footing the bill, so I'm just lucky that way. For us it IS "worth it" to stay at both GF and Poly, even if it is at rack rates.
