Is it possible to do the dining plan if we are not staying on property?

Also, tell me how the magic bands work? do we still get them or is that only an on property thing?

No, you cannot get the dining plan.

You can however purchase magic bands and have them linked to your account. Only onsite and AP guests get them for free.

No, anyone can book online. You just need an MDE account.

You link your tickets to your MDE account and then you can book 30 days in advance.

ETA: FP has nothing to do with the magic bands. It's your tickets that matter.

Anyone can sign up for an MDE account.

Fastpasses will be tied to your tickets if you don't have magic bands. Offsite will give you 30 days advance booking assuming you have ticket media linked to your MDE account.

ok, so we buy our tickets & get a number to add into MDE account.
Purchasing tickets from 2 different places. half are fl residents so will just buy thru website other 1/2 will get through a work promo

It shouldn't matter where you're getting your tickets. Once you enter the numbers on your MDE account they will all be linked and you (or whoever is in charge of the account) can make FP+ choices, ADRs etc. for everyone.

Yep! The number is on the bottom of the ticket on the back. I do not buy tickets from Disney, either.
