Have you met any celebrities while cruising with DCL?

About 2 years ago, my DH was upgraded to First Class on a business trip to Houston. He was sitting right next to Selma Hayek (actress). He didn't even know who it was and, being a very personable fella, he tried to make some small talk with her. She had a large stack of papers on her lap (turned out to be a script -- DH thinks it may have been for "Wild, Wild West" with Will Smith). He said something like, "You look like you have your reading work cut out for you". She gave him a dirty stare and proceeded to ignore him completely. When the plane landed, she was up on her feet immediately, demanding that they open the door right away because she had a connecting flight to get to. After being told that they would open the door as soon as possible, she sat down in a huff. When they finally did open the door, she "flew" out of it and into the terminal.

After the "regular" people, including DH, deplaned, he saw her in the terminal, sitting on one of the little motorized carts that take people from gate to gate, just waiting for someone to "transport" her.

She was very rude and DH hasn't had a good word for her since!

may i ask why anyone would care about meeting celebrities?...
i've always wondered about this.....from the time i was a little kid, and i still do...

I was on the Wonder in Feb of 2002, in Nassau that week Regis and Kelly had been filming their "Spring Break Special" at the Atlantis hotel. About 3 hours after we docked that Friday morning, Kelly Ripa, her hubby, and a large group of people walked right by us on board. A CM told us that they just wanted to tour the ship, so they took the opportunity to do so while we were in port.

On that same cruise was Ebert and Roper doing their Movies at Sea series or something like that. I never did run into them and they were on the cruise the entire time!

It's the most natural thing in the world to be awe-struck by a celebrity. That's not to say that they are any better/worse than the rest of us, but one has to admit that there have always been and always will be, those who we tend to get a "thrill" out of -- that we may be in awe of. Some are more thrilling than others.

It's that special feeling sometimes that we get being in the presence of someone that is well-known and we've possibly only ever seen from afar or heard about.

You'll probably never understand it, still question it, and always wonder, but the fact remains that it's only human. It's like trying to explain to some people how some of us feel about Disney. I'm sure, Disneyholic, that you've had to explain that to someone at some point

Thanks for your observation, DisneySlave. I think it would be fair to say that that's par for the course for just about any thread that's posted at DCL or otherwise. Easy to do in conversations... make's for interesting reading, and unless it's wandered too far off course, there's no harm.

I agree,it sometimes gets to personal and uncomfortable. We are all different and have are own opinions but there is limits to how far it can go.Thanks for the reply and lets "Stay the Course" I cant believe I quoted a Bush

We were on the 9/07 Eastern and there was one of the New Jersey Nets players onboard. I have no clue which one but his head almost touched the ceiling in the Oceaneers Club when he went to pick up his kid.

Now if it were a HOCKEY player I would have known who it was!

We were on the New Years Eve cruise last year and he was there with his whole family and Secret Service. Most people left him alone, but we seemed to keep bumping into him. DD tried to get on the elevator and was told it was being held for someone. She thought she could still get on too until she saw Mr. Carter and Rosalynn coming round the corner. Another night going to dinner, DD and DS got off the elevator and stepped right in between the President and the Secret Service. They just kinda stepped around the kids as if nothing had happened. Last story, we were eating lunch at Topsiders outside at the back of the ship and saw him with his entourage on the other side of the ship. When they got up to leave he leaned over at our table and asked are you getting enough to eat and chuckled at his own joke. What a nice man. And we're Canadian

Can't remember which cruise, maybe Jan '02??? Anyway, Stuart Scott (ESPN Guy) and wife were on. They were in Wave Bands every night and were very fun, personable folks!

We sailed on The Magic June 2000 and saw Audry and Judy Landers, their kids and mother. My wife and DD talked to Audry on Castaway Cay. She is very freindly and is still beautiful. They talked a little about all the Love Boat episodes she did.

John Stamos, Awesome. He's my hero for two reasons. First he married a super model and second, he bought the huge Disneyland sign on eBay.
