Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

Yeah. I knew that was going to be mentioned. 🤣 I didn’t know if OP wanted to add it to this thread. Seems like quite a few are checking regularly and it would be in one place but...just my thoughts.

Maybe we could have a thread on just questions concerning the vaccine.....not political or crazy debatable questions or anything but just genuine questions like for instance the one I asked earlier about the vaccine right now.....how effective is it going to be down the road with those new Covid variances?

And the the whole wearing masks after the vaccine.....like a poster earlier said he figures he will have to wear a mask anyway 'til he dies and I doubt said poster is (hopefully) anywhere close to that!

So TLSnell maybe you could put together a nicely thought out new thread. ;)

You think low-key would do it? 🤣. I will admit I’m lazy when it come to starting threads. You can probably count on two hands the number of my threads over the last 15 years.

My dad (age 68) got his first Pfizer dose this morning. So far nothing much. Mild arm soreness, slight headache for about an hour, mild fatigue. He's had a bit of back pain off and on, but he also has arthritis in his spine, so hard to tell where it's from. He says he's feeling a little run down, and he hasn't done a whole lot today, but he's been watching TV and doing fine.

Wish we had a poll Pfizer vs Moderna side effects. i.e. onset, severity, length, etc.
I don't have a clue what I'm doing, but I'm willing to try! What options do you suggest? I'm not sure the format here allows quite that many different questions. I could do options like:

1) got Moderna first shot and had no side effects
2) got Moderna and only had a sore arm
3) got Moderna and had systemic symptoms (aches, chills, fever, etc) for 1 day
4) got Moderna and had systemic symptoms (aches, chills, fever, etc) for 2 days
5) got Moderna and had symptoms beyond 2 days

Is that last one even necessary? Then do the same options for Pfizer.

Input?

Looks like I spoke too soon earlier. Got hit late this afternoon with lots of fatigue, some achy-ness, and feeling lousy. Took a nap and took some ibuprofen, feeling a little better. I'm certain it's from the vaccine.
At least it should pass quickly. Hang in there!

I'm lousy with polls and threads...terrible host. I'm never on top of them like I should be. Next I feel like I was rude...should've made a grazing board and brought wine. 😝

I've kept a mental tally and it appears symptoms lag with Moderna while Pfizer seems to have effects immediately. Moderna side effects may be slightly worse delayed and lengthier?

Not that we have the choice...take what you can get. It may give a heads up and help some prepare.

I'll hold on and see if others have specific suggestions then go with what I suggested unless someone has a better idea. I think the poll option here is somewhat limiting.

There is a CovidVaccinated subreddit with 6.6k members and many report symptoms cropping up even two weeks later.

Update a week past my first Pfizer.

The next day my arm was incredibly sore. That disappeared by the next day (well, it was still sore but not bad). Friday (so ~60 hours) I woke with a mild headache, slight dizziness and bad nausea. Was super nauseous all day and a little achy. Fatigued that night and went to bed early. Saturday I was sniffly and slightly achy and fatigued. I was worried I had Covid lol.

Woke up fine Sunday. (Day 4/5). I’m guessing it could have been delayed side effects? My coworker got hers Thursday (so 48 hours after me) and had the fatigue, headache and nausea on Saturday at her 48 hour mark. So it was either the vaccine or we both caught some cooties from our students (we co teach special needs preschoolers who are unmasked).

Dose 2 is two weeks from today!

Also, most of my other coworkers that got it were fine. A few sore arms. I had one that woke up with a swollen-ish hand and bad arm pain. She did not look good at all and felt pretty bad (this was about the 9 hour mark it started). Probably should have called off lol. She’s pretty scared for the second one.

It’s been 12 hours since I got my second shot. My arm is killing me and chills are starting. My back hurts a bit too. With the first shot it took 30 hours for chills to set in and the rest of my symptoms lasted 3-4 more days. Hoping this comes and goes quickly this time. It seems to be moving along faster for me so far.

DS28 received his first Moderna shot this morning about 11:30. I spoke to him about 7 and he was fine. He doesn’t live with us, so no clue how he is feeling now. I did text him, no response but don’t know what he was doing this evening.

Edit to add: DS just texted and said he feels fine, so far. A bit of soreness at the injection site, but that is it.

I am not going to lie - I felt terrible last night (24 hours post 2nd dose of Pfizer). I ran a fever of 100.8 and just felt awful. My usual temperature is 97.6. I missed my kids basketball game. I am better this morning but I skipped my 3 mile walk with the dog to stay in bed a couple of minutes. I get to be home today since we have Wednesdays as a deep cleaning day at school. I expect to be back at full roar strength tomorrow.

I'm not eligible yet for the vaccine, but my parents are in the 65 and older age group. I was able to get them appointments for the vaccine at Walmart when they opened them up yesterday. The first available appointment at their closest Walmart was Monday morning, and I made my mom an appointment for then. By the time I finished with her appointment, all the available appointments at that Walmart were full. Thankfully, a Walmart about 20 miles away still had some appointments for Saturday, and I was able to snag one for my dad before they were all taken. I'm just glad they will both be able to get their first dose of the vaccines soon!

I ran a fever overnight (about 100.2), chills and body aches. Woke up at 5 am to take more Tylenol and ibuprofen. Finally fell back to sleep. Woke up at 6:45 a bit sweaty but fever gone and feeling about 80% myself. It left as fast as it came on. I took a shower and felt even better. I’m at work now. I feel pretty good. I hope it stays this way and the chills and fever don’t return. This definitely beats the 4-5 days I felt like crap with the first shot.

Same thing with my coworker who previously had covid too. First shot she was sick 4-5 days. Second shot symptoms hit her in 11-12 hours and were gone at 24 hours.

My mom got her second Moderna shot Monday afternoon, she already had COVID, so I warned her she was going to have a decent reaction, and let her know how poorly I was with mine that first 48 hours. I texted her Tuesday morning, with no reply for hours, so I got a bit worried and called her. She was just cocooned in her robe and under all the blankets trying to get through the chills. She also has a headache, fever, earache, and general malaise. Hopefully, she is better today.

All my coworkers and immediate family members have now been vaccinated, just waiting for it to be my husband's and his family's turn.
