Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

oh dear. i wrote that so badly. no of course not.! two shot within the proper time frame of course. i meant that after the second shot, two weeks after that second shot, what is the protocol in everyone's opinion. sorry!

Current consensus is that 1-2 weeks after receipt of the second shot peak immunity is reached. I think people of different households should still be masked around each other however. Now is not the time to veer off course if you've been doing things right the whole time.

Dh had his first Pfizer injection a week ago (just sore arm), has to keep calling back to schedule 2nd one. They haven't called me for 1st one yet! Everyone seems to have a 'sick' reaction to the 2nd shot - uggg! Says it's perfectly normal tho' and a good sign that your body is recognizing it in a good way.
ETA: Dh just got his date for 2nd dose. Yay!

my parents who had two vaccines, in two weeks time, want to come into my house but one person in my home has not been vaccinated. i assume i need to tell them to wear masks for him? what are the rules on that and how strict would i need to be for that as they aren't so great with compliance. the person not vaccinated is healthy and younger adult. i don't think people know the post vaccinated 'rules' yet...
If they are not part of your household bubble, yes, I would ask them to wear masks. Actually, I probably wouldn't have them over.

Wanted to come back and report my symptoms from first Moderna dose last week. I received the shot on Thursday at 2 PM. By Friday around 8 PM my arm was hurting pretty badly (it actually reminded me of when I have had a mole removed and had stitches on my arm - it was heavy but also tender, sore, and pulled when I lifted it) and I started getting some joint pain. I do have an autoimmune disease so this could be why?

Took some Tylenol (first time since the shot) and woke up Saturday feeling almost 100% better! No arm pain or heaviness and no more joint pain!

Nothing more than an interesting observation but within my close group of girlfriends (11 of us total), we have 5 teachers. Tey have all been offered the vaccine as of this weekend, but only 2 of the 5 opted to get it :( Interestingly, the rest of us non-teachers can't wait for our turn.

Definitely wear masks and limit amount of time inside together. The vaccine only protects the person who got it and they can still spread virus to you. it stinks, but that's the science of it.

My mom told me that several of the teachers in her school building were not getting the vaccine. Some are worried about fertility issues and some are trying to get pregnant and worried of the affects if they happen to be pregnant at the time they get the shot and don't know it yet.

The science of it is THEY STILL DO NOT KNOW.

I’m grouchy, I know. But I feel that they’ve gone so far in letting us know that they haven’t yet studied whether it’s sterilizing immunity or not that people are starting to say why bother?

They are exceptional good at preventing severe disease, so it’s they likely reduce viral load, making it less likely you’ll be able to spread it. But they do not know for sure yet because they haven’t studied it. The absence of proof is not the same as confirmation. And that’s the science of it.

I really have to agree with you on this one. And now with these variants coming around; apparently some have been found in the county I live in! What the heck! Will the vaccine out now help with these or what?? Nobody, of course, knows. I feel like "Science" takes awhile.......MO

ETA....sorry Mom2rtk; not trying at all to derail your awesome thread.

I have no idea what the official protocol would be, but I guess it really just matters what your personal comfort level is. If I was in that situation I would not ask anyone to wear a mask, especially if the unvaccinated person is young and healthy. But that's just me.

Shot number 2 was injected 5 hours ago. DW and I will still be able to carry and transmit so we will CONTINUE TO WEAR A MASK until (1) the World is free or (2) we die, and I think it will be number 2.

I got my 2nd Pfizer shot today. Arm is a little sore. About 90 minutes after the injection, felt moderate headache, extreme fatigue, and nausea just like the first time. But after a 2 hour nap once I got home, that almost totally went away. Now it's just a mild headache. Arm at injection site is starting to feel a little sore.

I receive mine with my spouse , 1st one 4 weeks ago second one last Wednesday. Super grateful , apparently people actually missed their initial appointments. (?) we are both behavioral health care workers he’s front line . Mild pain for 1st vaccine , more noticeable symptoms after second shot but better within a day.

Got my second Pfzier shot yesterday at 5:30 pm. I am much more sluggish today and I took Tynenol and I never take any pain pills. I still walked my dog for 3 miles this morning and I am at school but just don't feel completely like myself. Hopefully it does not hit me like a ton of brick while I am teaching this morning. After the first my arm and base of my neck hurt so this is hard to explain but I don't feel I am up to 100% roar material (I love Say Anything)

And that's why I said we should all do what we feel comfortable with. I certainly hope you can unmask at some point before you die

No offense taken - this whole topic has people on edge. I live in NY, I know. We have been trapped in our houses (exaggerating) since March. I am grouchy myself and now I'm surrounded by mounds of snow with more coming every day this week.

Obviously I was talking about the "official" warning with the vaccines that they "think" you still transmit disease. That was my only point, as I'm sure you understood.

I'm more concerned about the talk Dr. Fauci has started introducing saying "the key to herd immunity is vaccinating children." Like, no, these vaccines haven't been studied for adolescents let alone little kids. Of course, you don't get coverage of that on the nightly news like you should.

Off my soapbox now.

And p.s. I didn't make up the "science" thing - it's what we are told every freaking day on the news. I was making fun by using that phrase. :earboy2: It's hard to read that through these messages.
