Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

My in laws just got theirs the other day, signed up at a local pharmacy and they called them in. My step FIL has bad diabetes and my MIL had a sinus infection at the time and was on antibiotics but they still gave it to her. I thought that you shouldn't be sick and get, I would have waited personally, but neither of them have had any real symptoms from it. They got the Moderna, first shot. My dad who is 93 was brought by my brother in to a pharmacy that called up couple weeks ago and he also had no real symptoms. He had had Covid beginning of Nov (mild case) and I was concerned it may be too soon to get vaccine for him but he got anyway. I thought he had to wait longer for vaccine but they gave it to him and did fine. Also Moderna.

I’m just a “regular” person, as is everyone in my household, so no vaccines here yet.

My mom is getting her 2nd vaccine today (Moderna) and my dad will get his 2nd one next week. They are both 65+ school employees (mom is a junior high administrative assistant and dad is a K-8 athletic director). Neither had any side effects

I know my son’s teacher also got her first vaccine recently as well.

I’m impatiently waiting my turn!

My dad (68) is finally getting his first shot today. His girlfriend has essentially locked him in the house and hasn't allowed him to leave for fear he'll get COVID. I'm not even joking about that. He leaves the house every 2-3 weeks for groceries and then she makes him take an at home COVID test. She has a new grandchild and she is terrified they'll give it to the baby. Unfortunately, his life won't change much once he gets the vaccine. She'll still be afraid he can get COVID and pass it to the baby. My dad better hope at some point children can be vaccinated or else he'll spend the next 16 years inside his home waiting for the kid to get her own COVID Vaccine.

After a lot of back and forth internally, I went and got my second moderna vaccine today at 9 am. I told the nurse that I got pretty sick after the first one and she said “you must’ve had covid.” I told her yes. She said get ready to be sick again.

My coworker who also had covid and was really sick after her first shot got her second shot last week. She said it lasted 24 hours and was less than after the first shot.

I hope it’s not that bad for me. I’ll post an update later.

I just had a nurse tell me yesterday that they were seeing that those that have had COVID have been having worse reactions to the vaccine then those that haven't.

I have not had the opportunity to get one but will once I can. I will be one of the last as I just work in an office. (roll out here in Ohio). My Dad rec'd his first shot last week (age 74). My mom is waiting. She registered and received the call but since she's only 69 she couldn't get it yet (the call was for an appointment last Saturday and under 70 couldn't get it until Monday so they cancelled the appointment on her). She even mentioned about her heart problems and asthma but they wouldn't budge with a 2 day separation and told her try for a new appointment this week so she's back to square 1.
DH works in a large factory and was told they can expect theirs next month.

Here's a special hug for you. I know how nervous you were.

I just got my time to go Friday for my second dose. The pharmacy made a note that we should drink a lot of water before and after the shot. They say staying hydrated may help the side effects.

Yea I knew that going in before my first shot. There had been talk about it in our hospital. I was sick a good 5 days. I’m hoping I don’t get sick but if I do I hope it’s short.

Im allowed to work from home if I’m sick tomorrow. I didn’t want to use PTO for this. Other hospitals in my area are giving two free PTO days after your second vaccine if you get sick. Ours isn’t.

I drink about a gallon of water a day everyday. I hope it does help. The nurse also told me to start taking Tylenol now.

Update on shot number 2: I am currently bundled up in my winter coat in my classroom freezing. I have one more class to get through and then I am headed home for a nap. My father who is 78 is fine. The nurse told us that the younger crowd was having more reactions than the over 70 crowd so take it with a grain of salt but all the older folks I know have been fine and the younger ones have had to deal with some issues for 24 to 48 hours.

I got my 2nd Pfizer shot today. Arm is a little sore. About 90 minutes after the injection, felt moderate headache, extreme fatigue, and nausea just like the first time. But after a 2 hour nap once I got home, that almost totally went away. Now it's just a mild headache. Arm at injection site is starting to feel a little sore.

Update:
it's now been 24 hr after getting shot #2. Had ringing in my ears an hour after this dose, similar to what happened after the 1st shot. But this time, it went away after 3 hours. Was able to sleep last night on the side with the arm that got the injection...couldn't do that after 1st shot. No fever or aches & pains with shot #2, but have felt generally just tired and not as full of pep & 'get up & go' as I usually feel. This time around, the side effects so far aren't as bad as the last time, but the fatigue is lasting a little longer.

I'm so relieved to have gotten the 2nd vaccination. We're hoping that group 1C opens up soon so DH can get vaccinated.

That's because younger people have a more robust immune system. In fact, I've been told that a bigger reaction means a better response to the vaccine.

DH and I got the first Moderna vaccine almost 3 weeks ago at a drive thru clinic. Since I have a history of anaphylaxis, I had to stay longer. Paramedics were close by. Upper arm began to ache about 15 minutes after the injection and hurt for 5 days or so. DH also had a sore arm, but for half the length of time.

I ran a low grade fever (.5°) for 5-6 days. Was fatigued and slept a LOT for 5-6 days. DH had no fever, but was fatigued for 3-4 days.

We are scheduled for shot 2 in about 10 days. I’ve heard the reaction can be worse, but we will just stay home and nap,

DD is in college, but works with patients, so she got her first Moderna vaccine around the same time. Had no reaction.
