Finally scheduled for 1st Moderna this coming Wednesday, Feb 3, at a huge convention center they just opened, with the National Guard, here in Chicago area.

I'm kind of surprised that nobody was arrested for blocking traffic or even for trespassing, since Dodger Stadium is private property.

They don't want people in jail because of covid, they don't want to arrest protestors for PR reasons, that's been a very sticky situation for the last several years the arresting of protestors. The reason for blocking traffic or trespassing makes people angry because it's for a vaccine but it's no different than the act of blocking of traffic or trespassing from the last several years. But if there ever was an appropriate time to say "now is not the time" to block traffic or trespass it would be this, let the people get their vaccine!

I received my first vaccination (Pfizer) about 24 hours ago. I told the tech to use the right arm, as I am right handed, and I heard that it was best to use your dominant side. She replied that was what she would recommend.

The vaccination was performed at one of many clinics in the area, associated with one of the largest hospital systems in my state, and the system where all of my medical providers are located. The sign-up was by link included in emails sent to patients whose PCP was part of their system. Some of the locations used Pfizer, while other locations had Moderna.
When signing up, you either could book by first selecting a manufacturer and then selecting from a list of locations using that manufacturer, or by just selecting a location, without regard for manufacturer. For those who were not able to make an appointment online, a phone number was available for scheduling.

Other than a little tenderness at the site of the vaccination, I have not had any side effects - far less pain and swelling than experienced after my last flu shot. I did try to move and use the arm yesterday, as much as possible, including some vigorous snow shoveling in the afternoon. I think that helped. I heard an infectious disease specialist recommend that only Tylenol be used to treat side effects; he said to not use any anti-inflammatory, such as ibuprofen, as an anti-inflammatory could reduce the efficacy of the vaccine. I have not taken any medication.

All-in-all, I have had a good experience, so far, and I am grateful for the opportunity. I wish success to those who are still trying to gain access to the vaccination. Hopefully, with more manufacturers getting emergency approval for their versions, additional doses will soon be available, to meet the demand.

Seriously? How many voters would mind seeing them put in jail? I don't think that's a realistic concern at all. And I'm from a very conservative area, so it's not about politics. Only fringe crazies would object to that.

Keeping the deltoid muscle where the shot was given, engaged, supposedly reduces pain and swelling. I don’t recall where I read about using the dominant arm, but I know that the CDC recommends moving and using that arm, following the vaccination, to reduce pain and swelling. That has worked for me. Maybe it is since you use and move your dominant arm automatically and more often, there is extra movement, without even thinking about it.

When I had my last flu shot, it went into my other arm, and I made no extra effort to use that arm, following the shot. My arm was painful, inflamed, and swollen for three days.

We're signed up on the OC website (besides belonging to Kaiser), but haven't received any notification to get an appointment. And we're both over 70. So, it's not rolling well.

I have heard the same thing about using the dominant arm for intramuscular injections. Keeping it moving makes it hurt less and that's easier to do on your dominant side.

I managed to get my 74 year old in-laws appointments at their local Kroger for next Friday for their first doses. (I tried at the county health department clinic, but got closed out. This actually turned out better anyway. It's at the store where they do their shopping/pharmacy, etc. normally.)

Our county is doing a special vaccination clinic just for the school teachers next Saturday. It's happening at one of our district high schools (for all the teachers in the county, not just from our district). The 2nd dose will be given a month later on a weekend. The superintendent said he's already considering using a "calamity day" for the Monday after the 2nd dose if he thinks a lot of staff will call-off.

I had signed up on the Cook County site to be notified when there were openings at any of the county sites. This morning I got a text saying there were openings. It did not say what locations. I clicked the link, brought me to the list of sites. I tried Arlington Heights (close to me), no openings. I skimmed the list, all were in the city except the Tinley Park Convention Center. I clicked that and there were openings. I pick Wednesday at noon.

On the news last night they showed some people actually blocking the entrance road. As well as walking among the cars that were waiting.

I think they only did that once the gate was closed. I'm certainly not excusing what they did. But I'm looking at the situation and it appears to me that nobody was standing in front of cars in any kind of blockade. However, they were clearly harassing people who simply wanted to come in for their vaccinations.

He's good! He's tired and sometimes cranky, but I think he's just sick of everyone being around and wants to do things on his own.
And boy, he can't take being uncomfortable! But he seems to be able to do more and more as time goes on.
