Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

on my local news they showed a video of a local dr. volunteering his time at the local megasite. it was supposed to be a positive video, how he was volunteering to administer the vaccine but the video also showed how he was giving the vaccine wrong which the dr. and journalist didn't seem to notice. He kept pinching up the fat of the person's arm and apparently that renders the vaccine to be ineffective. it must be given hard into the muscle, no pinching or squeezing the fat. And all of these drs. who typically don't ever give patients shots because nurses typically do have no clue what they're doing. oy.

Day two, shot two - Moderna: No symptoms or side effects other than a slight muscle soreness in my left arm, Couldn't play fast pitch softball left handed right now but, surprisingly, that doesn't come up as often as you would think :D

I got my first dose of Moderna yesterday. I was highly anxious going into the appointment. Someone was having a reaction when I walked in and that did nothing for my nerves. Had a panic attack after the shot but managed to hold my **** together so no one noticed. I stayed for 30 minutes instead of 15 because my anxious brain was telling me my fast heartbeat and dizziness was anaphylaxis ;)

This morning, my arm is sore but it’s nothing compared to the frozen shoulder I’ve dealt with for the last 13 months. No other real symptoms outside of anxiety. I feel very fortunate to have my first shot in my arm.

ETA: When I was sitting and waiting, I moved my arm around in circles. I probably looked a little strange, but thought that would help with arm soreness and the moving around helped my anxiety. Maybe this is why my arm isn’t too terribly sore today.

@mom2rtk ...sharing the information, you might see if this would be feasible for your parents..says you don't have to be residents of the county either but it does add you to a wait list (I know not perfect) to fill no shows or open appointments. Not sure how far away from Sedalia they are (they are doing it at the State fairgrounds) but at least it's not in the Ozarks.

Thank you so much! I had seen the information on that event, but all I saw said it was fully booked. No mention of a waiting list. So I just called my parents and helped them fill out the forms and email them in. Odds probably aren't high, but it's the first even tiny bit of hope they've had. Fingers crossed!

I've been thinking a lot about your situation with your parents and hoping you get some good news your way. Def. fingers crossed and hopefully some pixiedust: being sent your way!

I really appreciate that! This is the first opportunity they've even had to be even the slightest bit hopeful. Even if it is just a waiting list, it's more than they had yesterday!

Was that in MD? I saw something similar on the news 2 nights ago. As a pharmacist, we give a lot of shots into the muscle and I was perplexed by this technique. I jab it right into the deltoid.

For those of you already vaccinated, has anyone experienced stronger symptoms after you get the second vaccine dose?

A little bit, for me. Dose 2 (Pfizer) brought a higher fever (high of 102.9 versus the 101.5 I had with dose 1) and worse body aches, but less exhaustion. My side effects with dose 2 also hit sooner than with dose 1. Some of my coworkers received Moderna and had dose 2 this week. Most reported just a sore arm, but a few did have body aches that they did not experience with dose 1.

I received my 2nd dose yesterday at 8:30am . By about 3pm my arm was tender at the injection site. I took some ibuprofen then and again when I went to bed.

I'm please to report that is now 28 hours post-injection and my only response was the tender injection site. It was about the same this morning as when I went to bed and has been improving since - so no fever, chills, nausea or anything else to report.

Supposedly 9 more days until I have reached maximum efficacy with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine - until a possible booster is deemed important to cover any variant(s).

Live in Michigan. Managed to get my 84 year old mom and 82 year old dad appointments for their vaccinations this past week. Both received Moderna and are doing fine. Mom had a slight headache and nausea day of but it didn't last. Our county began vaccinating school staff on Fridays two weeks ago. Hopefully I will be able to get mine next week.

That Fox4 story online now refers to that Sedalia clinic as the "first KC region mass vaccination site". Which is a complete joke. Nobody in KC was invited to sign up in advance, and you have to be able to be there in an hour to be eligible for the wait list. My parents are just a smidge over an hour out and I signed them up hoping for an end of day leftover slot, but no way should that site be considered in the Kansas City region.

Got my first dose of Pfizer on Thursday morning, Jan 28.

My only side effect so far has been a mild soreness in the deltoid muscle around the injection site and minor stiffness in that area the first afternoon. The tenderness was barely 1 on a 1-10 scale.

By yesterday (+24 hours), the muscle was only a little tender to the touch; no noticeable discomfort if I didn't touch the area.

Today (+48 hours), nothing at all.

I have had some sinus congestion throughout that has affected my sleep, but I'm not sure if that is related to the vaccination, or just me being me.

Day 2, Dose 2 Moderna...continued

Several co-workers got the shot on the same day. Most scheduled their dose around being off the first few days (shift workers) so I have no idea how they fared. Of the ones scheduled to work, several made it in. I know of four who called in sick. One described chills, intense shivers, headache muscle aches and soreness. She said it started about 8 hours after the shot on Thursday. She felt awful all day Friday. Saturday, she woke up fine with only slight injection site pain - no other symptoms.

I had slightly more injection site pain on day 2 but very mild by day 3. I felt cold for a while but it was 30 degrees outside and my office is often a little cold. I also had a mild headache and a slightly stiff neck. All three symptoms could be explained by the weather and a low sugar event. I woke up feeling perfectly fine this morning.

Of my co-workers who had any symptoms, all said that it was worth it to have the protection.

Oh I agree. I thought that was a rather strange description but they probably thought it would be placating to us here in the metro..even though..no it's really not. The most eastern parts (Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Pleasant Hill, etc) of the KC metro are still right about an hour or just over that to get to Sedalia. Now if they had a mass vaccination site in Lee's Summit, Blue Springs and heck even Pleasant Hill they could more accurately call it for the KC metro even though an hour timeline is pushing it for the metro depending on where you are at and traffic.

Perhaps your parents, if they ever get called, because they are just over that hour they'll have a wee bit of a leeway on the time, one can hope I suppose :flower3:.

I am Phase 1b as a teacher in my state. We are listed as a “school to get the vaccine the first week.” Next week is the first week, but I just don’t think there is any way they will have enough for all the schools and districts listed as “first week.” I am on the list at my school and supposedly a sign up is coming. I’ll believe it when the needle is in my arm lol. I feel like I’m just waiting to hear “psych!”

We have been in person full time and I’m more than ready.

I was supposed to get my vaccine Wednesday night but it got canceled. I was able to reschedule for today and got my first dose this morning-moderna. The process was really smooth. I’m only four hours in but no symptoms so far. They’re having people schedule their second dose 4-6 weeks out which is longer than I expected.

The 2nd dose schedule for Moderna is 28 days from first shot. Recently, the CDC expanded the window for the second shot up to 6 weeks.

The recommendation for Pfizer is 21 days from first shot.
