Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

It made me wonder how successful we'll be when the booster shots come around in the fall/winter for Pfizer and Moderna. For many of us, the second shot was the one with the big side effects (it was for me with Moderna). My thinking is a larger percentage will skip the booster.

I saw someone from Moderna said the other day that he thought the side effects from boosters would be greatly reduced or non-existent, since at that point it won't be a novel pathogen to your body and your immune system won't freak out as much. If that's true, they'll have a heck of a PR campaign to get that word out and convince people to jump on. Otherwise, yeah, I fear most will skip it because they don't want to go through that again.

I hope that the booster won't have many side effects. A part of me feels like they should have prepared us a bit more for the side effects, especially the ones that many of us have had with the second dose. I suppose they feared that people would skip the vaccine if they really put that word out? For the record...I'll get the booster, no matter what. But I do hope it doesn't knock me down for a day the way the second dose did.

I had Covid in November and was hospitalized for 9 days. It was horrible. I received my first Pfizer vaccine on March 29. I was very tired that afternoon and had a very sore arm. Then at midnight I woke up with a fever of 102 and felt like I had been hit by a truck. I ran a fever for the next 3 days. I was concerned that I would have another bad reaction for my 2nd vaccine. I received my 2nd dose this past Monday, April 19, and sure enough had the exact same reaction. I feel fine now and am excited that I am now fully vaccinated. 😀 When the booster comes out I will know I will be incapacitated for the days following the vaccine.

Almost 24 hours after my 2nd Pfizer and I have fever, chills, aches and headache. Feeling miserable.
One of my ds's has no side effects, my other has a headache.
My dh woke up with hearing loss in one ear and a 'rushing' sound in the other. He said it is slowly going away and other than that he's fine.

I know you pay attention to the news so I'm surprised you'd say this. I feel like there have been numerous almost daily (well a few months ago at least but it's still very much in the news) articles discussing the side effects, so much so that you had people questioning (very apparent in this thread and in real life) if they even got protection because they didn't get any side effects. Tons upon tons of articles telling people to expect these side effects.

Yup...that would be me. :-)

Yeah, that's why I felt they went almost too heavy-handed with it (and why I'm surprised the other poster would say such a thing). There's reassurance that these side effects are to be expected, there's transparency to give to the public (which it was pleaded with public health officials to be transparent), but that needs to be balanced with the other part which is explaining protection level is there even in absence of side effects. I can understand where you're coming from.

Is the hearing loss one he might feel if he had like a sinus infection or something like that? Wonder if environmental factors are being amped up due to the vaccine.

Sorry to hear about feeling miserable :(

I agree with you, the information is out there. I've seen them...I've read them. But they felt (at least for me), almost like all of those pharmaceutical commercials....where the side effects are read and listed in a lower voice and at super speed. That's how they were even delivered to me by both nurses when I was vaccinated. I think after gong through it, that people should prepare to take a day off after these vaccines, and in most cases....after the second vaccine. Most of us have had vaccines before, and many of us get the flu vaccine every year. We get those same warnings with side effects with the flu vaccine, but few people are affected. But this vaccine is in a different category.

Maybe the amount of information can vary from state to state and city to city?
I felt like I had plenty of information. The public health folks and local news were discussing feeling somewhat under the weather for a day or two post 2nd shot. The nurse who gave me my second Moderna shot told me basically the same thing. I shopped a bit so I had simple, easy dinners for a couple of days post shot.
I have no idea what the booster may be like. I'll take it if it's recommended. I'm not concerned about it. I am glad to be gradually getting back to doing things I enjoy.

Thank you. I felt pretty bad after the 1st so I was hopeful it would be be better after the 2nd, but I did expect to be miserable.

My dh doesn't have a sinus infection but does have allergies and didn't take any antihistamines yesterday before the shot. I know when I am sick, or my allergies act up sometimes my ears get plugged.
He also has tinnitus in that ear so who knows if that has anything to do with it.
At this point he says it seems to have passed, thankfully. Could have just been a coincidence.
I did do some reading and there are some reports on VAERS of audio side effects, but it's rare and they haven't studied it.

And...my intention was not to make people question the efficacy of the vaccine they received. I shared my own experience. I think you did as well.

Not that I can't picture what you're describing but I can only assume it's different ways of intaking information because what you mentioned they heavily mentioned that stuff.

The information out there has been specific to the covid-19 vaccine. If people skim over the side effects in articles they read that's on them rather than what mentioned that they should have better prepared us. I think all they did was prepare us for the vaccine in a lopsided way.

And...my intention was not to make people question the efficacy of the vaccine they received. I shared my own experience. I think you did as well.
Sorry I don't think I was implying that at all with your comment :flower3: I was explaining that the news covered the side effects so much, hammering it home so much that some people who didn't experience side effects were left wondering if they even got the vaccine or if they had the protection. What you said had nothing to do with that. I mentioned that last week when I was explaining my side effects and in a conversation with a few other posters regarding their concerns with not having side effects or as bad as what others were experiencing (on this thread too if you'd like to look back on that). That has come up every so often in various threads when people have talked about side effects so nothing to do with what your experience was or what my experience in particular was.

I'm sorry if sharing my experience made you concerned.....if that's what you're saying. Certainly not my intent.

Not at all. My concerns were about 10 days ago. I am the queen of getting side effects from anything. After my 2nd Pfizer shot, I got nothing. Not even a sore arm. I had a new vaccinator and, still, to this day, I am questioning if I got a saline vaccine, if it went into my skin versus my deltoid. It's just so hard for me to fathom that I didn't get a side effect.

I think the point was that there is so much out there about how horrific the second dose is that people like me (with no side effects) are freaked out.

if people don't get the boosters then the vaccines will wear off and we'll just have another outbreak next year and be right back to square one.

Same with not getting the second dose because they want to avoid the side effects. How can you be MORE scared of side effects than catching the actual illness? Because you only get full protection if you get both shots. Only getting one dose of a two-dose shot is like strapping your seat belt over you but not buckling it in.
