My parents valued education very highly and expected all 6 of us kids to go to college. My mom was an immigrant with an 8th grade education and my dad only got to college because of the GI bill after WW II.

I only recently discovered the show. The whole premise is based on someone who is hired by a law firm but has no law degree and never went to law school. He is brilliant and can do the job but the numerous lies he and his boss tell cause a lot of grief. I didn't think I'd like it but ended up watching the entire series.

I see it is on streaming services so I will try and check it out. But the sad reality is even fake Doctors have been discovered......and a few were apparently pretty good. I have in the last few years seen some highly regarded specialists who studied at medical schools I have never heard of.

Yes. I have an MS in thanatology, and a BA in a somewhat different field. I used my BA for a career for about 20 years and then pivoted to use the combo of the two for my current career.

The OP asked about degree or not. If you work for government or a DEI company I would get as many degrees you can. Seems both of those value certificates over common sense.

I'm not saying anyone is a middle school drop out here. But why do middle school drop outs say stuff like this? Just askin.

I went and got an Associate's degree in Administrative Assistant. Started at age 47 and graduated at 51. Thought it would help me find a better paying job, so far it's been worthless. Haven't had any kind of pay increase except for the standard yearly 1% and it hasn't helped me get a better job. All I have to show for it is student loans.

I feel you. After the big crash I went back to school for an Associate in Applied Science so I could look for work in Ultrasound. Yeah.. So much work and money for nothing.

Would you trust someone who lied about having a PhD? I wouldn't. I also wouldn't believe that anything they did was 100% their work. If you have the gall to lie about putting in the effort to get a degree, you could lie about everything.

Well, to be honest, I have never seen proof of anyone's College Degree other than mine, my wife's and my daughter's. I will say, as someone who worked in the same industry in the same city for 46 years in recent years I have seen more than one biography from someone who worked here previously that contained information that I knew was completely incorrect. Not much point in questioning it though.
I am probably not the best person to ask about PhDs. We had a very unfortunate situation when I was in College where an Instructor with only a BA, but 30 years experience in his field, was forced out because the University only wanted only people with PhD's. A very nice guy got hired who had ZERO experience outside the academic world. A couple of us in his Journalism class had more real world experience in Journalism than he did.

30 years experience teaching? Doing the job is one thing, but being able to teach it is another skill completely.

30 years doing the job. And yes, you do need to be able to teach. But having zero experience in a job makes it tough to teach no matter how good a teacher you are. In this case, the instructor was a very good teacher, and the PhD Professor was good too, he just didn't have the real world experience. I mean, he did his best, realizing he was behind some of his students and modifying his syllabus on the fly and bringing in professionals from the field to fill in his personal experience gap. But it was odd being asked to be one of the guest speakers in a class I was taking.

We have to prove our degrees (show the original parchment). Candidates are warned in the job ad that they will have to prove their degree. Also, a note that it has to be from a recognized institution (I think that there is a link to this list in the job ad).
