Poll: Have you even money to a charity specifically for Hurricane Katrina Relief? If, not, why?

I didn't give cash but did buy items for an apt we furnished for a family that relocated here from NOLA.

::yes:: my school had a change drive, and I gave some. Not much, but every little bit helps.

we had one too we gave money don't know how much but we raised over 600 dollars

My family decided to give can goods, etc. instead of cash. We went together and my two DDs got to help me purchase can goods, etc. I think it was a learning experience for both, they are 7 and 4. I figure we gave enough to feed a family of 4 for a week. So I voted no, since you ask if we gave money. I don't know if this is what you meant or not.

Even though in your poll you left out the word "specifically", I voted no because you asked "specifically" in your post. I have four charities I regularly support that are involved in the Katrina relief efforts. Red Cross, Northwest Medical Teams, Salvation Army, and Habitat for Humanity. I sent some extra money to Red Cross and to NW Medical Teams after the hurricane, but I designated "to be used wherever the need is great" - NOT specifically for Katrina. I always do this because people jump on one particular cause and then the agency could have excess designated funds that are unable to be used for other needs.

I sent money to Habitat, New Orleans Musicians Clinic, Noah's Wish, and another smaller animal rescue organization. I bought tickets to a concert which every dime was donated to the Red Cross. I also donated a trunkload of supplies to Noah's Wish--towels, batteries, duct tape, carriers, etc.

I attended another concert where they were collecting canned goods, etc., but we decided that instead of buying stuff that would have to be trucked, we'd just donate the cash and they could get what they needed that way.

I also sent some loaded backpacks to Got Your Back.

None of your business.

I'm using that phrase a lot today.

How 'bout you, Con? If not, why not??

We donated $$ through a collection at our church, specifically for Katrina victims. Our church also had a collection of new underwear, socks, toiletry items, etc., last weekend and we brought quite a few items for the collection box.

We have opened our house to friends and family members. We expect some to be staying on and off with us for quite a while.

A group on another board altogether raised money for a friend who lost alot including his job and his wife's. It will help pay for the motel they had to stay in and money to regroup with.

I don't know anyone who hasn't donated either money, time or items (or a combination of the three). But, to be a pain in the butt, I voted 'none of your business'. ;)

I donated water and some $. My DD12 and a friend had a bake sale at a soccer game last weekend and raised $240.00 :flower:
The baked goods were donated by the Kiwanis club. The money went to the Red Cross specifically for Katrina relief. At the risk of bragging I am very proud of my DD and her friend. They came up with this on their own princess:

I voted no because the Federal Government is going to spend 200 Billion to bail out the area. So I pay via taxes. All the charity will equal 1/200th of that amount.

Yes. Why? Because I CARE about those people. I realize that after all the adminstrative stuff, my whole contribution may not get there. But even if only $1 of my contribution ends up getting to them, that is more than they had before. I live in Florida, I understand the hardships hurricanes can cause. One bag of ice or a loaf of bread can mean the world to someone. If what I give provides only that, a difference has been made in someone's life.

My best friend and I are going to a benefit concert with local bands to give to Katrina relief.

I did, bcs regarless of the Gov help, today is them, tomorrow it can be us! And why not sharing a little of what we have when they have nothing, we spend money on silly stuff when they need it for a bag of ice, a bottle of water or a can of food!
