Unable to book for 2

I'm trying to book a restaurant my husband wants on his birthday, but when I put in for 2 people the earliest is for 8:30pm. If I put in 4 people I get earlier times. Why???

The trick you can do, book 3 and then only show up with 2......or try to modify if you can.....

I use this trick all the time. Book for 3 then modify back down to 2.

I modify when I check in- assuming it is not a prepay like CRT or HDDR

I don't think it's a prepay. The restaurant is Steakhouse 71

You can modify in the app if you feel like it or if it works, but then if not, then when you check in at the desk.....

No need to modify, just explain there will only be 2 dining when you check in.

As long as at least one person shows up, there’s no penalty. So I try to modify at some point after booking, as a courtesy to the restaurant as well as to other potential guests, but if the system won’t let me be courteous then I let them know when I check in.

Ditto. I used to just change on check-in but my app has been glitch central for checking in for ADRs my last couple trips (despite deleting and re-downloading) so I've switched to just doing it right away.

If for some reason I can't change it I tell them in person but I prefer to do it in advance. For some reason it feels a bit awkward to drop in person, although a CM has never given me any sort of issue over dropping the amount of people on the ADR.

As an often solo diner, I encounter this a lot. I book for 3 and modify if it will let me. If not, I just show up and check in as a party of 1.

I don't understand why it would not accept a reservation for 2.
But I'll remember to modify in the future.

I think the system is programmed to fill all tables. If no 2-tops are available, it holds the 4-top tables for parties of 3 or 4. As I said above, I’m pretty sure the restaurants are aware of this and therefore don’t bat an eye when a reservation for 3 or 4 turns out to be a party of 2 or even 1.

This always happens when I book Steakhouse 71 for some reason. I just made my ADR's last week and same thing happened, so I just put in 3 people and got the earlier time I needed and modify it in the app.

The same thing happens at grand Floridian Café. Very frustrating when the walk up time for a solo diner is a 50 minute wait but for a party of four it’s 10 minutes. I even went to the check in desk and they would not give me anything earlier. Turned me off from even wanting to go there anymore.

It's all about how many 2 tops vs 4 tops vs larger from what I've been led to understand. if all of the dedicated 2 tops they have have been taken but not the 4 the system will let you reserve a 4 but not a 2. I get it a restaurant wants to be full and a 4 top will pay twice the amount as a 2 top so I try not to use this terribly often but I do leave it as a choice for my most wanted ADR per trip.
