Have you ever "tried out" for anything?

Basketball, track (mostly just had to show up for track, we had a small team), concert and marching bands, softball, and job interviews.

I had to try out for cheerleading and for choir. Cheerleading was fun, no problem. But singing alone in front of the director was another story. I delayed it an entire year because I was too nervous. He even encouraged me to try out that year! I've always regretted having waited. I did it the following year and made it. It was a fun year!

Every year in HS I competed for first chair in Symphonic and Stage band for flute. Also for competition solos. I always wanted to throw up immediately before performing.

Several plays in school, and the pom pon squad my junior and senior years. I don't know how close I got my junior year, but my senior year I was #13 and they chose 12 for the squad. I was really bummed to be so close and not make it. A few years later they started choosing 16....if they would have done that my senior year I would have made the squad. Oh well! All that is water under the bridge now.

I tried out for Tennis, Color Guard/Flag Team, and Cheerleading. I didn't make the cheerleading squad but I was okay with it since I made the Color Guard.

My junior year I tried out for Color Guard Captain, if the decision had been solely up to the band director I would never have made it but since it was his last year the Principal got to have his input and I was made Captain of the overall squad, Co-Captain of the Rifle Line and Captain of the Flag Line. I also got the coveted sabre (very light swords) solo during the Winter Guard Season.
