Have you ever seen "I Love Lucy" or "The Dick Van Dyke Show"?

I think Lucy should have tried a Golden Girls type comedy in the '80s rather than Life with Lucy. She had a bawdy sense of humor in real life; in fact her favorite sitcom was Three's Company. She was just so frightened (and probably ill advised) that her fans would only accept her as the "Lucy Ricardo/Carmichael/Carter" type of character. I remember reading that her final years were very sad as she believed with the failure of Life with Lucy the public had rejected her. She took it very personally and died only 3 years later. (I know she had heart issues but I wonder what would have happened had she felt differently emotionally at the end of her life.)

I never noticed until lately but Family Affair and My Three Sons were both produced by Don Fedderson. The graphics and opening music to both are extremely similar

Did you know that Cissy's off and on boyfriend Greg was played by Don Fedderson's son? And Mike Minor who played Steve Elliot on Petticoat Junction was another Fedderson son. (I had such a crush on him growing up!)

There was a PATTY DUKE SHOW mini marathon last night on decades! 8 season 1 (1963-1964) episodes including Christmas 1963! I just love the nostalgia! The clothes, the hair-dos, the verbal expressions, the music. I adore classic TV.

I've definitely seen episodes of I Love Lucy, and probably some of the Dick Van Dyke Show. (I at least recognize that one.)

Um...yes. I can't even wrap my head around the notion that anyone from the U.S. has not seen or at least heard of I Love Lucy. :sad2:

Especially when kids' shows today often do episodes the play on the old programs! I remember seeing one where Drake and Josh get a job (rolling sushi, maybe?) that was just like Lucy and Ethyl's chocolate factory scene, and looking up a clip to show DS.

I'm 35 and I can't wrap my head around anybody not knowing who Lucy or Dick Van Dyke is.

We have a family run chocolates shop here in town. They have it set up so you can watch them make the chocolates. On the wall by the conveyor belt is a poster of Lucy from the famous chocolate factory episode. Now I'm wondering how many how many youngens look at that poster and ask "Who's that?"

I've heard of both shows but have never seen an episode of either one.

If my work mates didnt even know of these TV programs I would have to quit
I am 30 years old and these two are probably in my top 10 tv shows of all time. I used to watch them on Nick@Nite's block party summer.
Dick Van Dyke is my idol. And Lucille Ball, flawless!

I've seen both, but never found Dick Van Dyke even remotely entertaining. Oh look, I "tripped" on an ottoman even though the look on my face says that was no accident. Zzzzzz

I love, LOVE Dick Van Dyke in everything I've seen him or heard him in.

But then again, I do binge watch Diagnosis Murder, so I may be a touch obsessed.

LOL. I am sitting here watching the Tony Bennett special. As one article called him "The Last Torchbearer". Yeah, he's the old dude who did an album with Lady Gaga.

Did you ever see her last tv movie, "Stone Pillow"?

Yes, I saw Stone Pillow when it was first broadcast. It was just OK IMO, but I do applaud her for trying a dramatic role where she allowed herself to look bad.

I think that TV film was generally well received, which led to her being persuaded into the horrible Life With Lucy. The book I have says she got ill enough to require hospitalization filming Stone Pillow, and combined with the failure of Life With Lucy, resulted in a depression from which she never really recovered.

That probably would have been a good idea, and it might have been a success, but I doubt Lucille Ball would agree to appear in an ensemble show where she wasn't the outright star.

She was right that the public rejected the antics of a 75 year old woman pretending she was 20 years younger. I think the ratings for the first episode of Life With Lucy were decent, not spectacular, but pretty good. But then the ratings for the second episode fell by about 50%, and continued to decline further after that. I had difficulty making it through the first episode, it was so cringe worthy, and never watched again.

And of course I turn the TV on tonight and a colorized version of I Love Lucy is on, with a colorized version of the Dick Van Dyke show to follow. If you are on the west coast, tune in to CBS right now.

I'm so old I saw them when they were originally aired. In 1952 we got our first TV, I was 10 years old, before that we listened to the radio. In hindsight, radio wasn't that bad, you would use your imagination to picture what was going on.

When in my car I sometimes listen to the oldies station that have those radio shows.

Funny thing is, CBS ran a colorized original Dick Van Dyke show in prime time on December 9th.

Yesterday evening, Christmas Day, CBS ran the colorized Dick Van Dyke show and I Love Lucy both in prime time. It was the exact same shows that was shown on the 9th.

I knew Cissy's bf was but don't think I knew about Mike Minor. I will say that I too had a crush on Mike Minor. Him and his wife (from the show also) was in a play in Sacramento and I just stared at him the whole time.
