Have you ever peeked?

When you were a kid, did you ever peek at your presents before Christmas? If you did, how did you do it? I always knew that my parents hid the presents in their closet, and once they were wrapped they went under the tree. Except for the "Santa" gifts, which were put out after we were asleep, even though we were never believers. Occasionally I would accidentally get a glimpse of the gifts as they were sitting in the closet.

One year I peeked. I thought I was very sneaky. I slit open the tape on one end of the packages enough so I could see what was inside, and then retaped them.

It totally ruined Christmas for me. I had to smile and act surprised, when I actually knew what everything was. Ever since then, no matter how bad the suspense is, I never peeked again.

Have you ever been a peeker? :magnify:

nope. never, I like surprises

Me? :tiptoe: No! NEVER!!!

Well, that's what I tell my kids anyway! :teeth: :ssst: :ssst:

I did once, when I was 14. It was exciting for about 30 seconds and then I was depressed that there wouldn't be any surprises on Christmas morning. That was one of the worst Christmases ever.

I remember one year peeking in my Mom's closet and seeing Barbie's purple corvette. The guilt wore on me so bad though that I went to my Mom a couple of days later and confessed. :sad2: :rotfl:

I admit to have had peek at different gifts. Dh and I did peek at one of the gifts sent from his parents this year that was marked "Do Not Open before 12/25". It was a homecard card and envelop so it was easy to peek without opening the envelop. :teeth:

I did once when I was probably about 12 or 13 and it was just at the presents my Godparents had sent.

I very slowly lifted the tape so as not to rip the paper or tear the top layer off then carefully slid the box up so I could smoosh the bottom of the box down while smooshing the top up then let what was inside slide out and darn it all if it wasn't a pair of pajamas!!! After I managed to get them back into the box I took care to refold the paper on the exact lines and smooth the tape down fully while matching up the slightly torn paper that was stuck to the back of the tape!!

I did such a good job that I didn't get busted but the fear that I would prevented me from opening anything early ever again!!

No, only because I could never find the gifts. I remember one year my mom came home with some shopping bags and went straight to her room. The next day after school I tore the room up trying to find the gifts. When I did find them, it was a sweater for another family member. I just recently found out that she dropped our gifts off at my grandparents house and the bags she had was for family.

DH got me some Body Shop stuff and i've been peeking/sneaking into the bag and using the body spray for the past week!

I did once, when I was like 5. I thought it was a red sweater, turned out to be a red purse. :confused3 BUT the big part about this was that my sister told on me! You'll NEVER guess what my mom did for a punishment.... She told me that if I couldn't follow the family rules I was OUT! Honestly, she made me put on my snowsuit and LEAVE! :scared1: I remember standing on the sidewalk looking at the house and crying. How times change, can you imagine the trouble a parent would get in now if they did that?

every christmas since my brother first taught me how to unwrap gifts and rewrap them. We used to wait til our parents went to work and then go to town. one christmas I discovered a teddy bear and had a name and everything picked out for him...unfortunately I forgot it before christmas morning....since the advent of online shopping, I just look at my mom's email...I know I'm horrible

this is the first christmas in a looong time that I don't know what all of my presents are....I know a few, but not from peeking

Not on purpose but I did happen upon the Nintendo that my parents got me. For like a year I was begging my parents for a Nintendo and I finally accepted the fact that I would never get one and I could just play at my friend's house. I was actually a little disappointed that that was my big gift. :rotfl:

When my DD was about 5 she saw my mom buy a candy necklace in the store. She never said anything to her Grammy, but she did tell me that she saw it, and she was pretty sure it was for her because Grammy never wears candy necklaces! She kept quiet about it, and when she opened it for Christmas (or was it her birthday?) she acted surprised. I can't believe she was such a good little actress!! If I hadn't known that she knew, I never would have guessed!

I of course had told my mom that my DD knew what she was getting. So I knew that DD knew, and Grammy knew that she knew, but DD didn't know that Grammy knew that she knew!

Know what I mean?

I also saw my dad come out of the store with an electric keyboard when I was about 12. I got so excited, I yelled right in the parking lot, "Alright! I'm getting a keyboard for Christmas!!" He turned right around and returned it to the store. I cried all the way home.

What I didn't know was he went back to the store later and bought it again, and I still got the keyboard for Christmas. Boy was I surprised!!

I peeked when I was about 11 or 12. While my mom was at work, I opened all the presents and then taped them back together. I was happy because most of the things I wanted were there, but it was very depressing on Christmas when I knew everything I was getting.
Never again! No more peeking! :magnify:

I was a champion peeker. It's easy, use a very sharp razor to slice the tape, peek, then cut a piece of tape the same size as the original piece and tape ovet it. If that's too much trouble, ask mom about who will receive each present. Ask about the presents again in a couple of days. If a different name is given for a present-we have a winner. It is a bit like Memory because you have to remember the name for each present but with the process of elimination, you get good at it. Just do not tell my daughter these secrets :ssst:

No need. My mom always used to write these little clues on them and they were always real obvious. Well that and the size and shape of the boxes.

Yes, I was a peeker. I remember unwarpping a gift under the tree from my uncle, and re-wrapping it. I did the same for something I found under my parents' bed. I feel pretty lousy about it now.

I hope my kids don't try to peek.

I once accidentally read my mom's reciept when I was 10/11...hmm, didn't get that computer game for Xmas, maybe I'll get it for my birthday. :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

not me  but my big brother got up earlier than everyone else one christmas morning, opened the gifts and then rewrapped them-putting the stuff he wanted into the boxes that had his name on them. he left my other brother with boxes that only contained the pj's and underwear :rotfl2: :rotfl2: to say mom was ticked off is quite the understatement. that was the year we learned that santa always sent a list to mom before christmas so she could make sure HE had'nt mislabled any boxes.
