Have you ever had the police knock on your door?

Home alone in the middle of the day, kids at school, spouse at work. Peer out the window and see a sheriff's deputy. When I opened the door, he asked me the name of our house builder! Turns out he had just bought property nearby to build a house and liked the looks of ours.

I had a party I was hosting broken up by the police in college once. I'm not sure if that really counts.

:D
similar experience here. Try flying with a gas mask, since I had to report to the DNC from vacation. You get some big side eye and lots of questions :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
going to a ALERRTS conference later this year - thought that it would be too much if I asked hubby to borrow a mask. Now I am going to. When I say, "I saw it on Disboards" I know I will get an eyeroll

Soon after I had graduated from college (so around 1986), two police officers banged on my apartment door about 4:30 am. Apparently, someone had told his girlfriend that he was committing suicide and gave them my phone number as where he was. I don't know if he gave the wrong number or if it was misheard or what. We talked through the door for a few minutes assuring them that I was safe and alone, but then they had to come in and check the place. I had been asleep and was still in my pajamas and was newly living alone, so it was a scary experience. Also, I worried a long time about the person.

At the same apartment, there was a man living below me who would scream abusively at his girlfriend when she came to stay on the weekend. I never did anything because as far as I could tell, it was just screaming, and I was young. The neighbor next to him would then start pounding on the walls and scream at him to shut up. Well, one day after one of these episodes, he called the police on me for making noise and disturbing him! My boyfriend at the time (husband now) was there that time, and we told the police exactly what was happening and that we weren't making noise at all. They seemed to believe us, and fortunately, he moved out soon after.

Two officers (I can't remember which kind...FBI?) came to our door while doing a security clearance check on our neighbor who was applying for a special security clearance to move to a government job overseas. They had a bunch of questions that we didn't have many answers to, since we didn't know those neighbors well.

One morning when I was in the shower, I heard some banging. I assumed the cat was trying to open the pocket door to the bathroom from our bedroom and didn't think too much about it. When I got out of the shower, I found my slightly shaken 18-year old daughter. She had been sleeping and the police banging on the front door woke her up. When she saw them, she immediately thought that I hadn't come home from my run and they were there to tell her that something had happened to me. Something had happened at the school behind our house, and they were looking to see if we had heard/seen anything.

I was calling hand r block the phone number was 691-1002. Had to miss the 6 and I hear 911 what’s your emergency. I said oh poop and hung up. Should of stayed on and told them what happened. About 5 minutes later a cop car pulled in. Told them what happened and they wanted to take a walk around and ask my wife if she was ok.
probably 20 years ago and I still remember the phone number.

Yes, but only because I called them. Once was when I got into an argument with a man who was repairing my washing machine. He became so nasty that I asked him to leave my house. He refused so I called the police. Very frightening.

Yes, When I was 15 my step-brother got wasted and broke into a bunch of school busses. The officers couldn't get anyone to answer the door (it was like 3am), so they were flashing flashlights through my bedroom windows, I woke up before they knocked on them and almost had a heart attack. They said they heard me shrieking through the window afterwards and apologized profusely.

Another time, as an adult I moved into my childhood home and the sheriff came and knocked on the door looking for my brother for some reason.

Once for the garage door being left open after dark, but before bedtime. It wasn't too scary, since my hubby (at the time) was home and opened the door. He called to me to close it and I waved to the officer as he was getting into his car.

Now, my sister has a pretty scary story. The swat team knocked on her door and asked if they could use an upstairs bedroom to monitor the next door neighbor who was locked in his house and threatening to commit suicide. They eventually talked him out and he didn't hurt himself or anyone else, but it took hours and made the news. My nieces baked cookies and made lemonade for the officers, so I don't think they were too traumatized by it.

Have you ever had the police knock on your door?

Yes, in the middle of the night, to ask if our car was missing (from our driveway). Seems the neighbor called the police because they thought someone was messing with our car.

Yes, knocked on our door after we had gone to bed to tell us our tax return check had been found amongst some other stolen property in a traffic stop. As I remember they needed to make sure we didn't know the perpetrators.

2am they came knocking at the door looking for my ex BIL It was time for him to go back to jail. They said 2-3am was the best time to look. He had given our address as his address the last time he was in jail.

Neighbor called the police for me. My now ex husband was hitting my oldest son. I couldn't get him to stop so called his brother who lived around the corner (his brother was married to my sister). I had our youngest in my arms (3 months old). He found out the sheriff's were called as I was trying to talk to him at his car door. (his car door was open). He freaked and started backing out and knocked me into a lot of gravel. I don't know what happened to my now ex. He just flipped that night. We were what I thought, a normal family???

A few years ago while living with my oldest son, a 60 year old woman was raped 4 houses down. They saw our cameras and wanted to see the footage. Sure enough, the guy was strolling by like normal around 7:15. 5 minutes later my grandkids were out front getting into the car to go to school so it was a little freaky knowing he strolled right by.

I had a CHP on my porch helping me with my history homework for college and my mom and sister peeking through the curtains LOL We had just started dating. I was 35 at the time, can't believe they were spying on me. It did come in handy as new neighbors moved in and would park in my driveway. When I asked them to move, they didn't seem to speak english. So, I call my friend. He came over, told them they couldn't park there and now they appeared to speak english to him. He then came inside for lunch. Never had another problem with them.

They came to my house one day while I was at work but my mother was home (due to financial problems my parents had to live with me for the last 7 years of my dads life and 15 of my mother) to inform us my father had collapsed and died

I’ve called the police a couple of times. Once someone broke into our car and another time someone tried to open our front door.

Many times during college. Was always the "keep it down, if we come back it's going to be bad" speech.

Only once as a homeowner and that was because I called something in and they wanted me to ID a suspect.

About 3 weeks ago at midnight.

At first I thought it was ding dong ditchers and rolled back over. Then the ring again this time with serious knocking. I peered out of my bedroom to see red and blue flashing lights. 😳

Turns out dd left garage door opened after riding her bike, and I forgot to check before going to bed. We’ve had a rash of car break ins as of late and cops were on a routine check.

Yes. February 2016, My Mother passed away on the Friday, 5 days later her husband was driving and I’m assuming felt ill, parked his car to get help, fell down and passed instantly of a heart attack beside his car. The police went to his house and the lady next door told them everything, so they came to my house, asked for me to sit down, told me my Father died. I instantly started screaming which Father, and had to go identify him. I buried them both in a double funeral. That was the beginning of my doom. My parents were both re-married, this was my step-father .
