Have you ever checked out of your resort with a zero balance?

Something happened to us last week at HHI that has never happened before. When we checked out, we owed the resort nothing. By that what I mean is our unit was paid for by points and we charged or purchased nothing at the resort itself. Granted we did go out and eat at some restaurants in HHI, but we didn't buy anything from the HHI resort. It was strange, on checkout day, there was no envelope hanging on the door, so I went to the front desk (like right down the hallway since we were on the 1st floor in the Lodge) and asked. They said if you have a zero balance you don't get a receipt. I know this may not seem like a big deal, but to me it was a milestone in that it showed me exactly how inexpensive our trips could be, being DVC members. We cooked a number of meals in our unit and when we did eat out, we ate at mostly inexpensive restaurants.

Has this every happened to you?

Congrats! you certainly wouldn t want to be around me. :lmao: Money flies out of my pocket faster than gas these days. DH and I have found that we are spending more each trip on our credit card. Everything we charge to our room charge. It just feels safer then carrying money with us all over. If I ever do a trip where I dont have a balance someone better check my DNA and make sure I am not an alien.

Congratulations! Isn't that a great feeling? It's happened to me several times at WDW, not that I never charge anything, but when I do charge, I always charge direct to my credit card. But I know how strange it is not to get that envelope on your door. I remember the first time it happened to me I kept waiting and waiting, figuring "Boy, are they late!" Finally I called and found out that if there's a zero balance, you don't get anything.

We have done this at both HHI and WDW. A couple of times we thought we would be billed for local phone calls we made but we were not charged for those either.

Yes, we do that at WDW. The first time we didn't get an envelope on our door was a strange feeling! But I'm liking it now!

It is mostly the norm for us since we started timesharing eight years ago. I remember how strange and wonderful it felt the first time we encountered the "Zero owed" at checkout. :goodvibes

Congrats! I can't imagine that ever happening with DW and I.

I have at my other timeshare but not at WDW, we charge back to the room. It's just easier that way for me to keep up with it.

Good for you! I charge a small nations' GNP to my room every time I go to DL or to WDW. (Fortunately, by charging to the room I don't have to worry about hundreds of little charges on my cc statement to reconcile when I get home.)

Were I to go to HHI, I could see the charges coming down (not being anywhere near the parks - and not having table-service to charge to the room either). I will have to go to HHI sometime just to try this!

I can proudly say that in 9 years of annual Disney trips, every single one we have had a 0.00 balance at check out. That is because I am vigilant about keeping it that way.:thumbsup2 We use travelers checks, with a certain amount of daily spending put in 8-10 different envelopes. It works every single time, even on the two Disney cruises we've taken.

We use preloaded Disney Gift Cards for dining and any other purchases while at WDW. That way we don't over spend and never have a bill at checkout.:thumbsup2

Dennis-

generally have a zero bill from the resort.

but at AKV on my last trip - got a bill - a big one...

so when to the front desk - it was for another room....:rotfl: my bill was zero!

Only once....and not even close at a Disney resort;)

At the Rocking horse ranch.....food and activities are included. We brought a bottle of booze....didnt' buy 1 thing. Felt so funny when i asked for the bill.....forgetting we didn't "buy" anything...and there was none.
DH was lovin it:goodvibes

Always "Zero" here. We never charge back to the room. Especially when staying with other family member/friends, we never even mention that charging on the room card is an option.

I think the surprise for us would be receiving a checkout statement!

LOL, what a shock! That reminds me of my time at AKV, when my ME info went to another room. Can you imagine the surprise-"I didn't know we were leaving tomorrow. We just got here. Are they trying to tell us something?"

A couple years ago I came back from a walk to find the basket of linens at the door. We were supposed to be leaving the next day. I thought maybe our cash ressie didn't get linked with the points stay and called the desk. I was told; "You checked out yesterday due to a family emergency. We've been wondering who was staying in that room!" Sure enough. I found the points for a day added back into my account and then removed after my call to MS. :confused3

We always have a zero balance. We rely on a nearby no fee ATM to supplement our cash.

I away's check out with zero balance. I don't charge anything while on my disney trips. Of course I only have myself to pay for as everyone else including Dson's and DD are all adult and therefore pay for themselve's. I use disney gift cards, check card and cash or travlers checks. Susan

This last trip we did check out with a zero balance we had some Disney Gift cards and Disney Visa rewards so we left owing nothing. Even our meal plan was paid for with Gift Cards and Rewards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a nice feeling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There must be something wrong with me!!!!!!!! I would never even think of having a zero balance. I always charge my Amex on the room card....this way I get the points and then at some point we get free (well, almost free) flights. I am very watchful with our money......we NEVER go unless we have enough money before we go and then we put it aside and have it when the bill comes. It works for us.
