Have you ever broken your tailbone?

I broke my tailbone 5 years ago in what is perhaps the greatest white trash moment of all time.
I was at the Wisconsin State Fair and after having several beers, decided to take my annual plunge down the "giant slide" w/my BIL. About 1/2 way down (it's a really long/tall slide) after one going over one of the bumps, I felt an awful pain in my "rear". I could barely get up afterwards.

I attempted to pretend like nothing was wrong so tried to walk around and of course had another beer or two. I barely slept that night and attempted to go to work and because I worked in a call center at the time and had to sit all day long, I knew I FINALLY needed to seek medical attention.

Went to the ER and of course a totally cute resident takes my case and asks me what happened. I could barely tell him w/out both DH and I cracking up because I was so embarassed. Once he saw that we had a sense of humor, he proceeded to almost wet his pants laughing. :rotfl:
He did say that most people never break their tailbones, just bruise them. So when my xray came back he exclaimed "Holy $***! You really cracked it bad in TWO places"

I was off work for 2 weeks and worked a reduced work schedule for almost 2 months. My orthopedic Dr said it probably will always hurt.
To this day I STILL can't sit in certain positions for too long - in fact it hurts pretty badly today.

If nothing else, hopefully my story makes my fellow broken tailbone sufferers laugh. Hope yours is better soon Kermit!

My husband broke his last year after falling down steel and concrete steps covered in ice at a job. It didn't heal properly and it still gives him quite a bit of discomfort. He drives a lot (5hrs a day) so he has to sit on a donut.

There's this bean bag type sofa called a super love sac made out of memory foam (like the temprapedic (sp?) beds) and that actually made him feel really good when he tried it out. His Dr agrees that it would be a good purchase

Yep, mine broke when DS15 was born. The first couple of days after I was home from the hospital, it hurt so bad I called the doctor. He said "oh, it sounds like you broke your tailbone. Take it easy and it'll heal." No problems when DS13 was born. I hadn't thought about it much, but I get pretty stiff and sore when I sit for long periods. If course, the stiffness could also be because I'm getting older, huh?

I hurt mine about two years ago...it still hurts :sad2:

Of course my caring DH came back with a wonderful response when I told him what happened.... "You broke your butt" :rotfl2:

I didn't think it was that funny

I am sorry for everyone's pain, but you guys are cracking me up!

Yup, I broke mine when I fell down the stairs when I was nine months pregnant with DS#1. :earseek: Because of that and because I had high blood pressure, they induced me the next day at 39 weeks. I could not sit for what seemed like months afterwards! I sat on that silly donut thing forever! That was 10 years ago. I went on to have two more children with no drugs at all and my tail bone didn't really bother me too much considering all the other pain!

There are still times where if I hit it just right or sit in a certain position I will get a twinge of pain there. It's never a constant pain, just a real pain in the ... oh, never mind, you know what I mean! :teeth:

When I was 15 years old, I broke my coccyx. It hurt like crazy. I have no idea how I managed to break that bone but I was very sorry that I did that :( It took about 6 weeks to heal.
