I broke my tailbone 5 years ago in what is perhaps the greatest white trash moment of all time.
I was at the Wisconsin State Fair and after having several beers, decided to take my annual plunge down the "giant slide" w/my BIL. About 1/2 way down (it's a really long/tall slide) after one going over one of the bumps, I felt an awful pain in my "rear". I could barely get up afterwards.
I attempted to pretend like nothing was wrong so tried to walk around and of course had another beer or two. I barely slept that night and attempted to go to work and because I worked in a call center at the time and had to sit all day long, I knew I FINALLY needed to seek medical attention.
Went to the ER and of course a totally cute resident takes my case and asks me what happened. I could barely tell him w/out both DH and I cracking up because I was so embarassed. Once he saw that we had a sense of humor, he proceeded to almost wet his pants laughing.
He did say that most people never break their tailbones, just bruise them. So when my xray came back he exclaimed "Holy $***! You really cracked it bad in TWO places"
I was off work for 2 weeks and worked a reduced work schedule for almost 2 months. My orthopedic Dr said it probably will always hurt.
To this day I STILL can't sit in certain positions for too long - in fact it hurts pretty badly today.
If nothing else, hopefully my story makes my fellow broken tailbone sufferers laugh. Hope yours is better soon Kermit!
