Have you been to Chankanaab, Playa Del Sol, or Mr. Sanchos' Beach?

On our Western cruise next April, we plan on getting off the ship in Cozumel and taking a cab to one of these places, doing an "excursion" on our own. It'll be me, my DH and my sister. We think Chankanaab looks kind of fun, but then again it'd be fun to go to Playa Del Sol (where kayaks, etc. are included in the admission price vs. having to rent them at Castaway Cay), and after reading some posts, we're also throwing Mr. Sanchos' Beach into the mix. If you've been to any of these places, can you tell me the pros (and cons, if any) to spending your day there? And would you go again? I'd appreciate your opinions! Thanks! :)

I'd also like to know this. Anyone know if there is a web site for Chankanaab? I think they have dolphins there?

On the second Western cruise my DH, DS4, and myself went to Mr. Sanchos Beach Club. We had a great time. The beach was clean (not "groomed" but generally picked up) there were plenty of chairs and chaise lounges for everyone that we saw and the food and beer were great. They also have a few small open shops and a pool, bathrooms (also clean and large), and showers both in the restrooms and one outside. The snorkling was OK, and the best part is there was no entry charge (we got suckered on that when we went to seven mile beach on our own in Grand Cayman) and the taxi was just 5$ per person. By the way, when you get to the port bypass the very long taxi line you will see and walk toward the parking lot behind the mall and you'll be able to beat the line. Have a great time, we sure did!

Chanaakab is excellent. I can't compare to the other places you mentioned because i haven't been to those. It is very easy and relatively to get to. I have used several different web engine searches, and have not been able to find an official web site for Chanaakab though. It would be nice to see one if someone else knows of one.

This isn't an official site for Chankanaab, but it's has some helpful info on Cozumel and includes some info on

Chankanaab

Sure hope if someone finds a *real* site, they post it here. :)

thanx for the link Trishy. I hadn't seen this one before.

Depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for beach, then Chankanaab is not the place. I was looking for beach and went to Chankanaab. VERY disappointed, I thought it was a beach/park. No real beach. Our friends went to Mr. Sanchos. They had a blast. I've also heard that Nachi Cocom is a very nice beach with a pool.

Hope that helps. Another viewpoint.

We went to Chankanaab and had a blast. The snorkeling is amazing, especially when someone around you is feeding them. The fish swim right up to your mask and stare you in the face! There are also underwater caves that you can see the fish swimming in and sunken mayan relics (replicas of course, but still fun to find). The Mayan village offers alot of nice photo ops and there is a Dolphin Encounter there where you can swim with dolphins (didn't personally do this). The only thing we missed was the Botanical Garden. I liked this DCL excursion because they offered transportation back every hour so you could spend as much time as you wanted there. We didn't feel rushed.
