Have I been under a rock? Price increase postcard.

You guys aren't alone. We're not too happy about this new 100 point BLT minimum either. We were going to do a 50 point add-on at a time over the next few years. Now we have to rethink that, and to be honest, I don't know if I'm even interested anymore.

We're right there with you. We were going to add on 30 points at BLT when we go down in April, but we've decided we'll just skip it altogether and take our chances at the seven-month window. We only want a studio for a couple of nights and don't care if we get MK view, so I think we'll be fine. I think DVC made a big error in judgment on this one.

I hope you're right. Someone deserves to get fired over this one. We bought 160 the second day with intentions of refining it 25 at a time until we got it to a level that we liked. Now I don't know what we're going to do. I refuse to be bullied into 100 at a time. That is NOT what I signed up for.

Somebody screwed us major league on this one.

I don't know how you can say that. You had a choice at the beginning and you have a choice now. If you can't afford to buy 25 now and certainly can't afford to buy 100 in January, then just wait for one of those smaller contracts to hit the resale market in the future or save up to buy the 100 point add on later. No company ever has an OBLIGATION to hold a price for any buyer. It just wouldn't make good business sense. Frankly, the guy that should be fired is the one who came up with the 25 point add on in the first place. I'm quite sure those small resale contracts are a thorn in DVD's side!

Well aren't we reading a lot between the lines and making assumptions with no basis of reality anywhere in the conclusion based on the information available to you? Are you psychic too? :)

When I purchased my initial interest back in April, my guide told me that I could add-on at any time with 25 points, 50 points or any combination of 50+1.

That's a deal as far as I'm concerned and I don't like it when deals are broken. I'm a principles kinda guy.

They never promised me that it would always be $10x per point but they did promise how I could add on points albeit if only verbally.

Having said that, I recognize DVD's legal right to change this particular rule fully at its own discretion and that they are under no legal obligation to keep the "25, 50+1" offering available. Understand though, that it is equally my right to think and say that it sucks if they do. ;)

Familiar with the concept of banking and borrowing? 50-75 points properly allocated could be used in a number of different ways.

Did you read my post above? How would you like to have bought in at 160 only to be told NOW that you have to add on in multiples of one freakin' hundred?
We bank and borrow all the time.. well borrow more than bank, with less than 100 you can vacation every few years but with 100 hundred I can get what I want and go every other year. Guess you can stay in a studio or go less often but I'm hooked on my 1 bedroom. Actually will be using studios a few times over the next year used up two years worth of points on my DD fairytail wedding last year. bought 100 AKV points which allows us a 1bedroom savanna view every year for 4 years then we have to take a year off. Figure we can do 3 years at BLT with 100, but not sure it's worth it, thinking of adding some AKV points before price increase. might be just the little shove we needed.
Missed your post about buying 160pts. I can see where this could put a little bug in your plans. Are you sure you have to buy 100 points if you already have BLT points, I have a feeling it's only the initial purchase, so they don't have a lot owners with small contracts. Might be worth a phone call.

My wife and I had a good laugh when we read that postcard. Talk about bad timing. There is zero way that they would scare me into buying, especially in this economy. This is the time to entice people at CURRENT rates by upping the perks and related benefits, NOT saying "Get in now because you will be screwed otherwise."

Someone posted earlier in the thread that he/she thinks they know what they are doing in the end. I totally don't agree. If you've read Disney War or Reality Land, it is clear that - just like anywhere else - ideas fail all the time. Disney has made some major blunders over the years, and I think someone will lose their job over this one, just in time for the holiday season.

ITA! I interpreted the postcard as nothing more than a scare tactic. With the economy what it is, nobody is going to frightene me into putting out that kind of money regardless of how much I'd love to add on yet again. Resale...that'll be my route in the future if the price and incentives aren't right with Disney.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not whining though it may sound like I am. There are only 3 of us and my DD is almost 4. We want a 1 BR and we own 160 at AKV and 160 at BLT. Next year is unusual in that we will likely go 3 times. We will usually only go twice a year probably. Given that, we know we can bank and borrow and we'll be fine.

I just don't like being told something after the fact that is substantially different from what I was promised when I was sold the bill of goods.

Maybe owners are exempt. I assure you that when and if I am ready to add 25-50 to buy me some weekend time, I will raise substantial kain to get it done. Until then, I'm gonna just bite my lip (except here among my peers) because I believe the moritorium will be lifted once DVD realizes what a substantial failure this ploy has been. I predict it within 6 months. The posts in this thread serve only to prove my belief is likely correct. ;)

Personally, I hope we all stick together and noone does an add-on after the increase goes into effect further proving that we can't be bullied around like a pack of trained monkies.
