Have a Photopass Question? Ask me!

Just wanted to weigh in quickly on the "blurry photos" comment from a couple pages back. Just returned and looked at our pics. I will say that the resolution on the pictures- at least the ones on the preview pages- do seem blurry. My initial reaction to seeing the pictures was that they were all blurry/not of good quality as well. I went in to add borders and edit some, and then it seemed that the resolution of the individual pictures is the same as before. I have not tried printing anything yet, so cannot say how they turn out in print. (I have also not downloaded, so no comment there either!)

Just wanted you to have a heads-up.

Unfortunately there is nothing I (or any individual person) can do about it. All the cameras around the parks are the exact same and we are told what settings to use. If we don't use the right settings we can get in trouble. So... sorry? If it really is a big issue I would talk to the entertainment managers (if you can find them - even I have trouble finding and talking to them on a daily basis). :confused3

Thanks so much for an amazingly thorough and informative thread! I will say that I skimmed most posts and may have missed this, but I read somewhere that you don't have to get in line to scan photos anymore after the rides, that they are magically there on your band...is this true, and really, HOW DO THEY DO THAT? LOL :rotfl2:

Yep. There's an RFID sensor in the ride vehicle.

Not a criticism- just explaining why the PP thought everything they saw was blurry!

I know you guys cannot go outside of what they instruct you to do, and that pure digital is meant to be different than print quality. Like I said, once I went in to add borders, etc., the "blurriness" went away... I am overall pretty happy with the pictures we got.

That blurry image on the screen with the thumbnails may well have been from a browser/computer issue rather than a PP issue. I can view photos and in thumbnail they are blurry, especially if the computer resources are slow in building the page, those thumbnails take lots of resources. Sometimes they'll clear in a few moments, other times they never do clear. Viewing a single image doesn't require all that processing, which is why they are no longer blurry.

In addition, for obvious reasons you don't see the full resolution image on the PhotoPass web site - a much lower res version is used to minimize load times. Also people trying to steal photos from the web site.

Just got back and LOVE most of our pictures. Only problem is half our magic shots are empty! Is there anything I can do after the fact? Thanks in advance for your help.

That's an easy fix. Just email photopass and they'll fix them.

All the info I've read has convinced me to get MM for my upcoming 4 family WDW trip. However, I've got a question which you probably can't answer OP (since you work at the parks).

It's my understanding there's no "photopass" photographers associated with the Disney Cruise Line, but are you aware of any plans to make MM extend to cover shots taken by cruise photographers as well? The trip I'm planning is going to have a sea portion, and I'd love to use the MM for both parts.

There has been rumors here and there but as of now I don't think so which is a shame since there are quite a few people who do both the parks and the cruise. My thought is that there might not be enough photographers on the cruise to make it worth while. And yes, they are third party, not Disney photographers although you can view photos online and make picture books.

Honestly, I am surprised that magic bands and the related projects haven't caught on yet on the ships. If you have ever been on a cruise you quickly find that your room key becomes your best friend - not only does it get you into your room, but it acts as an ID, as a charge card, and dining rotation information card. To have everything in a waterproof wrist band would be perfect. I know that recently Royal Caribbean has been having people sign up in advance for shows and activities which is similar to Disney's fastpass+ system in the parks. I wouldn't be surprised if magic bands slowly makes its way to the cruise ships and California within a few years.

I've read through the thread - lots of valuable information and I want to thank you for doing this.

I'm sure you have already answered this, more than once, but I want to ask anyway. If I want PhotoPass, what exactly do I do? Do I preorder, as you do for Memory Maker or something I purchase once I'm actually there? Do I have to decide which pictures I want before the end of my trip? I know I want to have the "magical" pictures taken, but for other shots is it okay to ask the CM to also take a picture with my camera? I will be traveling solo so there won't be anyone else trying to hand a camera to them at the same time.

Thank you so much.

You have the option of pre-ordering memory maker and some other products, buying prints in the parks, or buying many other products like prints and downloads when you get home, so basically you can get photos before, during, and after your trip. And yes, we don't mind using your camera if you ask nicely. Also, when you are with the characters the character attendants (usually in blue shirts) can also take your picture. It helps a lot if your camera had a neck or wrist strap so I can hold on to my camera and your camera at the same time.

Thanks for your quick answer. :)
I didn't know the character attendants would take pictures if asked, politely of course. Yes, my camera has a neck strap.

If they are around, then yes. Sometimes they have to. I hate when guests ask me to use my camera and then hand me four other cameras/phones of their own. I am not an octopus, I don't have enough hands. There are some really fantastic attendants who help me with everything, and there are others who sit in the corner and just stare at their watches.

Note: please don't hand me a billion other cameras. You know that iPhone you are probably using? It has a share button on all the photos! Use one camera and share/text/email the photos to the other members of your party. It saves everyone (you, me, the characters, and the other people in line) some time!

Yes they do. Some locations don't have a choice, as there is no photographer

Do magic shots take extra time to show up on the site? I'm wondering if ours from early tonight were lost or if they show up later. They are some Frozen ones.

Photos take 24-48 hours to make it through the moderation queue, where magic is added. If there's no magic, some of the photos go through a quicker process.

Forgive me if I ask a question that has been answered already but the "search" button doesn't show up on my ipad. I have the memory maker and have been editing all my pics so happy I got it. But now I want to upload some of the pics that I took and can't find where to do that. It does say in the faq's that I can but doesn't tell me where to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And a big thank you to all the disney photographers who gave us so many wonderful memories. You guys are awesome
