haunting photos of abandoned amusement parks

I love seeing how abandoned places get reclaimed by nature.

We have one not to far from here called Chippewa Lake. If you go here and scroll a little south to the wooded area you can still see some attractions. I want to head down there and take some pictures at some point this summer.

Is Idora Park the place that had a ballroom (since burned down by vandals) that the Stones and some other famous bands once played at?

agnes!

Seeing Rocky Point as it is today makes me so sad, yet brings back so many good memories from my childhood and teen years. It was quite the place.

We live a few minutes from Geauga Lake in NE Ohio. Its depressing to look at it now. Half torn down. The tracks broken. Its like my childhood memories are broken!

I'm going to have to ask my mom about Idora Park today. I've never head of it, but I'm sure she went there when she was younger.

yipes! why didn't someone warn me that there were clowns! :lmao: officially freaked out now...

Creepy and sad yet hauntingly beautiful. Love it.

Very sad and sobering to see the photos of Jazzland/Six Flags NOLA. Hubby and I had one of our first dates there.

Loved Chippewa Lake when I was a kid. And Euclid Beach.

I grew up in Solon and worked at both Sea World and Geauga Lake when I was in high school (summer 76, summer 77 at Sea World, summer 78 at GL). It is so sad to see it now. We lived close enough that I could ride my bike to work.

I think the only thing left at Euclid Beach is the entrance arch. When I was young, maybe 10, I remember going to some fall festival around here and they had an exhibit with a bunch of the old Euclid Beach attractions. None were working but they had some old roller coaster cars and some other stuff. My parents both went there as kids and they really liked the exhibit.

I haven't seen what Geauga Lake looks like now. I thought they were trying to auction off a lot of the rides so I didn't think it would look that bad yet. I only went there a couple of times as a kid but did go to Sea World a lot.

Don't forget the Humphrey company - best Salt Water Taffy EVER!!!!

Amusement parks should be full of life so it's odd and eerie to see them abandoned like this. River Country is like that too.

Lots of happy memories of Sea World and Geauga Lake. It would be too sad to see them in a decrepit condition :(

Very interesting articles, but sooooo many creepy clowns/dolls/characters etc. :scared1:

Side note: I clicked the link for abandoned zoos at the bottom of the amusement park page and saw Belle Isle Zoo in Detroit. I vaguely remember going there as a kid and I'm so sad that it's just rotting away now, I hate it when politics get involved in things like that!

Thanks for posting though, like I said, very interesting. Have you seen the thread that's around here somewhere about River Country and Discovery Island?? There's some very eerie pictures and video from those.

I agree, so sad, it was such a fun place. I first experienced it as a teen. such fun.
we don't live in RI anymore, did they ever get someone to buy the land and build the condos there? I heard that was a plan, but the last time we went by there, no condos.

:( I loved rocky Point!!! Went many times on field trips when growing up... Miss the clamcakes and red chowdah :( :( :(

I didn't realize Geauga Lake was closed down now. I worked there in the late 80s for a summer. That was such a nice little park. I never did get over Sea World's closing. We went there every summer until they closed.
