haunting photos of abandoned amusement parks

If anyone else on this thread is interested in urban decay, you really owe it to yourself to take a look at Photos of Detroit by Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre. Haunting and spooky...

agnes!

Pics of Detroit will definitely haunt and spook you :lmao: I'm laughing but it's not funny. A once great city is in utter ruins now. It's actually very sad. I wish for better for my beloved D.

Wow, those pictures of Six Flags of New Orleans are SO sad. DH and I used to get season passes to the park when we were dating. So many memories there (including my first free fall drop that traumatized me for life!), horrible to see it rotting away like that.

To the poster who said it should be torn down because you can see it from the interstate, I totally agree. It's just weird to see it sitting there abandoned like that. :sad2:

Don't think anyone posted pictures of Whalom Park, people here from MA must remember it.

I remember Whalom Park! it used to be a cool little park. Have you been by there lately?

I remember the tv ads for Benson's A. K., I don't think we ever went. I do remember going to Edaville Railroad, that is still up in running I had not thought of those places in years! Here is the Edaville site, that is still a very nice family spot. http://www.edaville.com/

I think I read that Edaville is for sale. I hope they find a buyer and open this summer. we love going there for day out with Thomas.

I saw a youtube video about that New Orleans Six Flags, really creepy with the music. Good setting for a zombie movie or something.
In the 2nd link the OP posted it has photos from Spreepark in Berlin. If you go see the film "Hanna", that is in theaters now, many of the climatic scenes of the thriller are filmed in that abandoned park. It's very effective.

And the grand daddy of them all, the slow, slow, slow death of Coney Island:

The abandoned Thunderbolt rollercoaster (1927) in 1995, before it was torn down:

Residue of the turn of the century in a crumbling section of the remaining Bowery midway:

The beach side facade of Child's restaurant (opened 1923, closed as a restaurant in 1947 and then became a chocolate factory, until that closed in 2003):

Recent residue: the remains of the "Shoot The Freak" game, which closed last year after a two season run. This midway attraction involved shooting paintballs at a guy running around in this forlorn alley.

More arcade remains, from the looks circa 1940s or earlier:

Wow, this is just creepy all around. I haven't visited any theme parks that have shut down. I did visit Disney when River Country and Discovery Island were open, but never went to them.

Here is the creepy Six Flags New Orleans video with the weird music. It wouldn't be so bad except the music just makes you think that some weird clown or something is going to jump out and eat you. Or one of those Mardi Gras Jesters. :scared1:

I had a season pass to Geauga Lake for many summers in a row...lots of great memories of that park. And Sea World, too! Most of my friends, as well as my Chorus director worked at Sea World during the summers when I was in high school. It's so weird to see the property abandoned.

ETA - any NE Ohioans remember Dover Lake water park?

Does anybody remember Bertrand's Island Amusement Park in Lake Hopatcong, NJ? (http://www.landingnewjersey.com/bertrand.htm)

As a kid, we had a summer house in Lake Hopatcong and used to go at least once a week. I would spend all of my allowance at the "spin art" booth :lmao:.

It has since been turned into luxury condos ...

And in the same vein - The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit http://detroityes.com/toc.htm.

When I was in college we used to go "exploring" in some of the buildings on the site, especially Michigan Central Station which was shockingly easy to get into and just amazing to experience. It is eerie and beautiful and sad all at once, standing in that huge main room with the sun coming in through all those little, mostly broken out windows. I wish I still had my photos from back then. :(

That is incredibly sad:sad2:

I love, love, LOVE urban exploration pictures!

Idora Park is so sad because to me it represents the decline of the whole steel town area. I remember my grandparents talking about taking the trolley, and how people came from all over to go to the new million dollar park. My parents went to dances in the ballroom. I remember seeing Clapton is God written in the que for The Lost River, loved the vinegar fries, road the Wild Cat 13 times in a row once...We moved South the same year it closed.

AT 5:26 in this video, there are pics of the fire and the park afterwards.

Has anyone seen the show Life After People where they explore the amusement park that was to open the same week Chernobyl happened, creepy but interesting.

And these photos of Dying Detroit are just sad too.

Does anyone remember when that guy who took pictures of the Epcot wand after it was taken off and destroyed? I love seeing pics like that.

I loved that show! My favorite parts of the show, were when they showed real life examples.
