I just got back yesterday from DL and the Haunted Mansion Overlay is great this year! Now I know you're thinking "it's the same every year!" - well, yes and no. Not many people know this but every year there is a new gingerbread house in the dance hall (where the ghosts are dancing, reading, playing the organ) and it's made of real gingerbread! Every year it has a new theme and this year's was awesome! There's a lot more detail I found this year; more snow, bones, ribbons, etc. I know for some reason people get upset by the overlay :confused3 but the attention to detail and work put into it is quite astounding. I was able to get pictures last year because I went on a slow weekday and was pretty much the only one riding so no one minded the flash but this year I didn't want to bother anyone. But I can tell you that a trip to DL for the overlay is a must for me and if you like Nightmare Before Christmas (even if you don't) I think you'll really appreciate it.

Just be open minded and give it a try! I know it just opened on friday but I want to know what everyone else thought of it this year. If you would like to see pictures there are some in my Florida PTR in my signature.

I was there on Friday and enjoyed the overlay. This year's ballroom scene was great - the ginger bread centerpiece was amazing - and it was so new, you could smell the ginger bread!

I just noticed you are heading to WDW for your Halloween trip! It's great that you were in DL and rode with the overlay, and then get to go to WDW and ride the original as well! :goodvibes

Great to know !!

Thanks so much for sharing and I can't wait to go in two weeks to see all of the detail :)

Exciting!!! Thanks for the info. We need to cross this post with this thread:

You could smell it too!! I thought I was going crazy or something! I kept telling my mom "I can smell the gingerbread!"

I know, I got lucky this year! This will be our first time at MNSSHP and we're so excited! We're doing the haunted carriage ride too; I couldn't resist when I heard that I would get to see the headless horseman

Your original thread is great! You'll love it this year

I know about the gingerbread house changing each year, I can only hope that this will be the last year for HMH, I will never understand how people can actually prefer this to the original HM, nor understand how anyone can accept these particular huge changes that are made to the original ride attraction, I so hate this overlay, it makes me sick!

by the way, one can say that something is a rose, regardless of how bad the smell is!

I think we can guess your feelings about NBC HMH by now, its a little disheartening to see disapproval while we have a fair amount of us conversating on how fun it is. :confused3

No, no guessing, I believe via my posts it is completely clear as to my very strong sentiments towards this overlay, and while you and others that are like minded have a right to your views and opinions, so do I! perhaps it needs to be pointed out, regarding ones right to free speech, even if someone does not like what one says, too bad, I have has as much right to state what I do not like, as much as anyone has in stating what they do like. Just in case one is not familiar with the first amendment, it is regarding the freedom of the press, the right to petition, the right to hold a peaceful assembly, the right to believe or not in any religion, and ah..... the right to free speech baby! there is a reason for that being a part of our, not just yours or mine, but OUR bill of rights.

My friend let me burn his "Musical History of Disneyland" CD which has the whole track from HMH and I memorized it :rotfl: It was awesome to hear on the new DVD how much Tim Burton liked it - when he got off he went and bought all the merchandise!

I seem to remember though the first time I did it, which I think was about seven years ago, that there were more decorations in the waiting area. Like they had music playing and banners and such...Does anyone else remember that?

Wow, didn't mean to hit a nerve or anything. I just think its a little bit of a mood killer when there is negative things being said about the NBC overlay when pretty much every other post is about rejoicing about it.

I'm all for freedom of speech and I know it well. Just thought I'd put my own 2 cents as well. You are free to say what you like. I'm just going to go on and enjoy talking about NBC now..

How coooool is that. I've only seen it for the first time this past January so i did not see it in all its Halloween glory. I can't wait to check it out !

Yes the waiting area used to be much cooler...how sad. I still love the overlay :thumbsup2

Hear! Hear! No one is saying that you can't express your opinion, exercise your free speech rights, etc. But it would be nice if everyone did so with a little more graciousness and in a positive manner because that is a commodity that seems to be missing alot on these boards lately.

Can't wait to see NBC HM in a few weeks. I hope the gingerbread smell is piped in!

Ooh - I can't wait to see the overlay!! We have never been at Halloween and are so looking forward to it! :cool1: I think it's great that they do change things up a bit, keeps things new and different, something to look forward to for sure :woohoo:

alright, ya'll have me beyond excited now. GRR I was already all pumped.

DH is gonna insist on riding it a zillion times. ROFL

The good thing is that the HM line always moves really quickly so you can just get off and then back on again! XD

In years past they've had Fastpass for NBC HM. Do they have Fastpass this year?

Lisa, you just read my mind! I was literally just thinking to myself, "I wonder if they are now piping in a gingerbread smell like they do on Small World Holday with the peppermint smell," and then you mentioned it! :goodvibes :thumbsup2 Anyway, I BET that is what they are doing. I don't think the smell was detectable so much because it was so fresh (even though it was fresh) as much as the scent was being piped in through vents. Either way - I LOVE that they did that! Whether it is fresh or piped in, I thnk that is a GREAT touch to add to it! Now it makes me wonder if they did that last year and we just didn't notice it. We rode HMH probably 5 or 6 times in two trips last year and I don't think I noticed it. Then again, the peppermint scent in Small World Holiday is very faint and subtle, and literally, if you turn your head in a different direction, you will miss it.

Wow, I was already looking forward to riding HMH this week. Now I am super excited!

Seewhatimesdone, since you got to DLR on the first 'official' day of the decorations being up and out, did you notice anything new or different that was not up anywhere in DLR last year?? Obviously, all the usual pumpkins are out, but is there anything new we should all be looking for?

Seewhatimesdone,

I thought of another question in addition to my question above about any new Halloween decorations in DLR this year. Do you recall, in the HMH banquet/dining hall scene where you smelled the gingerbread, if the snowdrift Hidden Mickey is still there? It is a pretty obvious Hidden Mickey. If I remember correctly, it was on the floor, underneath a window or door, against a back wall, over to the far right. It is definitely not in the foreground of the scene, but once you see it, you realize it is very obvious! It is supposed to be a snowdrift in a Mickey shape, but I have said many times that it looks to me like a fuzzy bath rug in the shape of Mickey.

Anyway, I was just curious to know if it is still there, because I didn't notice it in late September last year, but when we went back in December, it was there, almost like the Imagineers decided to stick a holiday Hidden Mickey in there just for Winter. I could have just missed it the first time, but they would be just crafty and sly enough to put in HM's and then take them away and put in different ones each year.
