Hate to ask, but...

Without the search engine, I need to ask these questions:

How many days before my arrival at VWL should I contact them with my room request? How do I reach them - fax? If so, what is the fax number for VWL.

How do you get to be the flag family?

we just called yesterday inquiring about this, CM sez ledger is only kept 5 days ahead of time so call or inquire at check in.

You should make any requests that you have when you make your reservation - then there's generally no need to call the front desk or fax anything in later.

Requests are usually ordered by the date that the reservation is made - people that reserve early are first on the list; within that order, smoking pref's and/or medical requirements take priority, and then anything else (not always in the order you request though).

Room assignments are usually done 4-5 days prior to check-in, unless no requests are made, in which case you may not get a room assignment until you actually check-in. However, the front desk has the ability to "bump" pre-assigned rooms (which causes a real pain for the room assignment people).

I've seen this term "bump" several times. Could you please tell me what it means?

April, I think you are referring to seeing the word "bump" as the only word on a post? If so, that is just a way to post a reply on a thread. By replying, even with just that word, the thread is "bumped" back up to the top of the list. This is usually done if the thread has fallen way down the list or to the second page, and someone wants to get it back on top to solicit more input.

As regarding the post above, "bump" is pretty self-explanatory. Someone's request "bumps" someone else's request when they get there first.

I think it's the family that gets to raise or lower the flag - as I recall Wilderness Lodge does a little ceremony each day for this.
