Has your local Disney Store closed? YES or WHEN

I also read the Des Moines, IA DS closed probably early last winter. That was the only Des Moines DS.

My guess is if Des Moines had their store closed, others in IA did too.

The stores in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City have both been closed for some time, leaving the store in Davenport the only one in Iowa.

Goofyposter, you are RIGHT on target! Thanks for your words!
Please come to the stockholders meeting and repeat them!:D

The only store to close around here lately was Plymouth Meeting. There used to be an IKEA there, but it moved out about a year ago, and the whole mall has been suffering. We do have quite a few here outside of Philly still.

As far as I know, the chain has not been sold. The stores in Japan were sold in 2002 to the OLC, those who own Tokyo DL.

I can get some really cute Disney stuff much cheaper at Target or Walmart.

Sorry, but it has been my experience that if something is cheap, it's cheap stuff. I have been workign in retail since 1986, so I speak on my experience as a consumer as well as someone who has seen how much it costs to make something (from when i used to work at Bloomingdales).

The Hampton VA store closed 2 years ago, and the Greenbriar Mall store in Chesapeake Va closed 2 years ago in May. The stores in Lynnhaven Mall in Va Beach and Chesapeake Square Mall remain open. I had heard that the store in Regency Mall in Richmond closed last year, but has another closed, as well?

The stores in Altamonte Mall and Florida Fashion Square in Orlando Fl closed within the past 2 years. The ones in West Oaks Mall and Florida Mall are still open.
The stores that remain open seem to have one thing in common, the malls themselves are Simon properties. Wonder if this has anything to do with it?

We have five or six stores left here in St Louis (Union Station, Chesterfield Mall, Crestwood Mall, St Peters Mall, Northwest Plaza, and possibly the Galleria. The reason I say "possibly" is, last time I went to the Galleria, the DS was closed "for remodeling" to be opened in the fall of 2003. I haven't made my way back there to see if it ever reopened. I think that's quite a bit of saturation, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the Union Station or Crestwood stores close soon.

On a positive note, I stopped by the Chesterfield DS last night, and they had several adult T's on sale for $9 each. I picked up two of them, and I plan to go back to get a couple more this week. I wanted to ask if they were closing soon, but I just couldn't bring myself to ask. The checkout cast member was really friendly and seemed like he was actually happy to help me, and I didn't want to ruin it for him.

Hey Luv2Roam , looks like we'll be neighbors in a few months. All of us at UP are being transferred to Omaha into the new downtown headquarters. We were a bit disappointed at first, but we've visited Omaha several times, and we really like it up there. You guys have a nice town!

disney_parrothead ---
We WOULD have been neighbors! ;)
We moved to the Orlando area the first of the year.
We are temporarily living just outside of WDW, and are purchasing a house about a half hour away. :)
We lived in Omaha 8.5 years. LMK if you have any Omaha questions.
Property taxes are the pits in Nebraska. But maybe MO is the same way.

They are closing? I didn't know that. We have 2 local malls here and as far as I know they are staying open. I wonder why so many closed.

Fort Collins, Colorado closed after the Christmas season of 2002. I couldn't have been more shocked or disappointed, although I bet the manager and employees of his store had me beat in shock and disappointment.

Closest store is about 60 miles away.

In St Louis, Galleria re-opened as a Castle Store. St Peters is called Mid Rivers Mall, and as far as I know, there is not a TDS at Northwest Plaza? I was under the impression that StL had 5 currently: Galleria, Mid Rivers, Union Station, Crestwood, and Chesterfield.

Also, the Evansville, IN, store recently closed.

Looks like I win the prize for the most mistakes in one post tonight! Last time I was at NW Plaza was about six or seven years ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if it has closed by now.

Sorry, Luv2Roam, I didn't read your information... should have known when your tagline says you're just down the street from the magic. How lucky can you be? I view my move to Omaha as a temporary setback on the way towards our own move to Orlando.... we may be going in the wrong direction now, but we're still looking for that move southeast ... in about 15 years!

Oh, and the taxes ... you're right, they are the pits in Omaha!

I went to a mall in North OKC last year specifically to visit the Disney Store only to find Williams Sonoma in its place. It about broke my hear because I spent many happy hours there in college dreaming about a trip to WDW someday. After reading this thread, I had to make sure the one in Edmond was still open-and it is. <phew> It's an hour drive from here, but it's where we get the Halloween costumes each year and I would hate to see it go.

TDS in Springfield Mall(Sprngfield, Virginia) closed about 2 years ago. I understand the TDS at Pentagon City(Arlington, VA) closed within the last couple of months.

The DS in Springfield, IL closed right after Christmas. My DD cried when it was not there.

One of the ones in North Jersey closed recently. Paramus maybe? Yeah, I think it was Paramus at 4 & 17. The one in Jersey City is still open (surprise).

TDS in Appleton, WI closed Late spring 2003. We now have to drive 1 1/2 hrs. to the nearest store. (only 2 left in WI)

Im glad to say Quail Springs Mall DS said there not closing...

We lost the Penn Square location when the mall itself raised rent rates for the remodle they did in the center of the building...did ya notice they lost he warner brothers store too? those 2 stores were the only reason to go to that place...

for all you non okies, pennsquare is the ritchie rich mall thats in the middle of the slums on one side of the street and all the old money on the other....

though on an OKLAHOMA note wouldnt suprise me to see our tulsa location go under. the one and only time i went there the mall itself was hard to find, and most of the place was already shut down....but as of now its still there.

This store closed due to a lease issue not because TDS are closing. So if stores were not closing all around us this one would have still closed.
TDS in Livingston Mall in NJ closed I think 2 years ago, but this was also closed due to a LP issue.
