Has The Dis Turned Into This Millenium's "Magic 8 Ball"?

Warning: Rant to follow.

Everyday when I read the 'boards I am astounded by the number of posts asking what people should do, think, or feel about any number of topics. Many are the WWYD? variety,(looking for advice and opinions, that I can see) but alot are "should I be upset", "should I be offended". I mean if you are, you are; why do you need to ask total strangers if it's ok to feel that way??? Some of this stuff is simple, basic, everyday stuff, but sometimes it is medical advice and I think "Man, get off the boards and go to emergency, don't ask us!!"

Is this the state of the world today, that we are incapable of making decisions (and owning them)? Are we that afraid of using our own judgement?

Uh, this is a message board. I repeat- a MESSAGE board.

Messages consist of questions, opinions, feedback, etc.

...Or "my whole body has gone numb on one side and I'm slumped in a chair, WWYD?" I have not seen anything outrageous like this.

I'm sorry, and maybe I have a sick sense of humor, but this made me chuckle. Okay, I laughed out loud. I just got this visual, like a political cartoon maybe, of some poor person trying to get to their computer and Disboards instead of reaching for a phone that's right beside them. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Clarification-I am in NO way making fun of anyone who has had a stroke. The scenario just struck me funny.

I can kind of understand where the OP is coming from. Whenever I have a question or a dilemma, my husband is quick to respond with, "You mean you haven't checked with Disboards yet!?" Of course, it's done in jest. I hope!

Having said that, I love coming here to read threads and get answers to questions. There are times, however, when certain threads come up and I know I'd rather poke my eyes out with a knitting needle than read them. So I just stay away from threads that I know will have me screaming in my head. IRL, you can walk away from people you don't want to have anything to do with. On the DIS you can just not open their threads.

I also believe that anyone should be able to vent here, or rant, and not get flamed, or laughed at, for doing so.

just ignore the threads you know will get on your nerves.

i stick to threads with people i like and have fun with.

what do you think?

hmmm...to be fair...I seem to remember a thread

"I just ran over my dog with the car! What do I do?"

I BELIEVE that turned out to be a troll thread though...

I'm glad you found this funny. It was totally intended to make someone laugh (sometimes I think my humor is "missed" here!!). Anyway, when I wrote it, I had the same visual in my head: some terribly ill person propping themselves up, using their last bit of strength to post on the DIS rather than call 911! :rotfl: That's what the OP insinuated goes on with the medical posts. I just haven't witnessed it.

Answer unclear, ask again later.
