Has the DIS taught me nothing? Spring Break at WDW! **Trip Report Link p.12**

Great Epcot plans! I agree, it is fun to look at all the animals at the Seas. Universe of Energy is long but Ellen is hilarious.

Love the F&GF pictures too! I was there last April with my dad so we got to see the flowers too. So pretty. Really can't wait to see this year's displays.

Being in Florida, I always wear sandals of some sort. Every. Single. Day.
::yes:: I hear ya - my flip-flop/sandal collection stuns most northerners, lol!

A WS film – we usually skip these, although I’ve seen the France movie a few times.
FWIW, we went to EP last weekend and took in the China movie - I'd forgotten how good that one is, albeit rather dated! :thumbsup2

Food – this one I can’t predict. I’m expecting a yummy meal at Via Napoli so probably will not eat tons after that – but maybe a grey goose slushie would go down nicely for “dessert”.
Ooo, ooo, ooo, I have a recommendation! The new Werther's shop in Germany. Chocolate a caramel dipped treats aplenty - apples, krispie treats, pretzels, marshmallows, cookies, nut clusters - YUM!

Great pictures and great plans....Epcot has become my favorite park....I feel the most relaxed and holiday like there!!!:lmao:

I totally agree. I think because it is so large and there aren't many things you have to get in line for, you can just wander at your leisure and take it all in.

I have also been lurking on Old Navy! We have one that's 2 miles from my house and it seemed like last year when I was going to the gym 5 days a week, I was in Old Navy every weekend buying new clothes..now, a different story and some of those clothes no longer fit! I'm starting my diet tomorrow I think, or this weekend, or Monday haha. We'll see! Tomorrow marks 30 days till the trip so I think tomorrow is good!

We have a few around here but it always seems the cute things online are not in the store. Plus the mall where I live now is horrible. So I do a lot of online shopping. I've given up on the diet this week. I'm heading home this weekend, so I will probably be sort of okay because my mom is doing WW as well, and then Monday I am definitely getting back on track.

I LOVE the photos, they are GORGEOUS...Epcot is one of our favortie places. We love it! I also like your sandals, very comfy and cool looking. Have I mentioned we think speech pathologists are AWESOME?:banana::banana: We have known a LOT of them, because of Lisa and David...

I hope you are feleing better today and have an amazing day with your "children" if you are working. This made me think of you after your last update. :)

Love the owls!
I happen to think SLPs are pretty cool too!
I did have a good day at work although my schedule is off. We are implementing a program called "Visualizing and Verbalizing" for vocabulary and reading comprehension. A rep from the company came to shadow us doing the program so it was a "light" day. Tomorrow I have tons of IEP meetings and Kindergarten is doing a show so probably not seeing many kids tomorrow either :sad2: One of the issues I have working in a school setting. There are weeks where I feel like I never get to see my kids! Ugh, don't get me started...:rolleyes1

I'm excited to see what they've done this year too...hoping for some newer topiaries. I feel like a lot of the designs have been recycled from year to year.

Caramel?!?! Have you read my dentist posts? :rotfl: I'll have to take a look though...surely there is something that won't give me an insta-cavity ;)

Hi everyone! TGIF!

Last weekend I mentioned how I was going to rent Paranormal Activity 2, but they were all out! But tonight I lucked out, so I plan on turning on all the lights, snuggling with Winston and being scared out of my mind. Then watching happy, funny TV before bed

Tomorrow I'm heading down to my mom's house for a few days - looking forward to it! Gotta love a 3-day weekend.

And I just had to share this video with you all. It's hard to explain, but I work (okay, she is my classroom neighbor) with someone who is very much like the Penelope character from SNL (the link to a skit is below). She has been driving me NUTS lately; I can't even talk to her without her "one-upping" me. Hence the Penelope comparison. Consider this a vent. Enjoy!

ARE YOU NUTS to watch Paranormal Activity 2 by yourself
I haven't even watched the first one. Hope you slept well after that, and Winston kept you safe.

Kristen Wiig is just hilarious. Period. But that character is too much! Sadly, my friend who reminds me of Miss "Penelope" was in a car accident yesterday. She is fine, just sore and her car needs a lot of work. And as much as I'm glad she is okay, all I could think of when I read it on facebook was how much she will be talking about it on Tuesday. I know. I am a horrible person.

 Well, I LOVE scary movies, with ghosts and hauntings and things, so the effect they have on me after I've watched the movie is typically minimal. I just need one good "happy" show and I'm good to go. It was a decent movie, but I'm not too picky. For those interested, I would definitely see the first one, since the sequel actually was a sequel/prequel of sorts. I thought it was going to be a completely different plot/characters. It was a little slow to start though.

Happy President's Day!

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend and, if you are lucky like me, enjoying having today off as well! :goodvibes

I returned back to my lovely home earlier this afternoon, did my weekly grocery shopping and have just been cleaning, preparing for the week. Boring - time for a DIS break! ;)

My weekend was okay - nothing spectacular although its nice to be home. My mom's dog (Phoebe - pic on 1st page) is the sweetest, kindest dog ever. BUT she can bark like no one's business and she loves to bark at Winston, who 50% of the time is completely ignoring her. I'm shocked I didn't have a 2 day headache.

Saturday, my mom and I went out to lunch at one of my favorite restaurants, Sweet Tomatoes (SoupPlantation in some states). Basically a giant soup and salad bar. Then did some shopping at Kohl's where I picked up a dress, a Mr. Potato Head (for my school kiddies) and a vacuum. What a combination! Sunday, I took my car in for its first service, oil change and all that. My mom dropped me off and then we went and had breakfast at Panera Bread while it was getting worked on. More shopping the rest of the day but no exciting purchases.

Winston is now exhausted - just the way I like him! And tomorrow it is back to the grind. I did realize that Saturday (2 days ago) marked 5 weeks until our trip!

I'm working on an update for this TR and may have some news on our summer vacation plans soon (non-Disney). Thanks everyone for reading! I can't believe I have 5 pages and have had over a 1,000 views. If you're lurking (and enjoying) come on out and say hello! :cutie:

Warning: If you hate dogs, especially odd ones, completely skip this post!

Ask and ye shall receive - I take pictures of Winston constantly. Here are some of my favorites over the past few months. None of these have been staged in anyway. He has actually put himself in these poses/places and remained there at least long enough for me to see him there, laugh and take his picture.

Resting?

This one especially cracks me up. We had woken up around 3 (both of us) unable to sleep. So I decided to just get up and go out to watch some TV, thanking God I didn't have to work the next day. While I got ready to watch TV, he decided to sit backwards in the chair. I love how he still looks half asleep in this picture too.

I had been sitting, watching TV (again) and couldn't see Winston. Mind you, I live in a 2 bdrm apartment and keep all the doors closed at all times so there aren't that many places for him to go. I looked around, under tables, called his name and finally looked up to see him here, sitting in the corner:

As I mentioned earlier, this weekend I spent some time down at my mom’s house. While we talk on the phone almost daily for at least a few minutes, I hadn’t really discussed specific Disney plans with her. She just comes along for the ride – I usually say where we are going and when. ;) So I shared with her our plans – what days for what parks, the 2 meals we have ADRs for, etc. She was fine with everything. :thumbsup2

But then I started thinking about our arrival day. The entire reason I added a 4th night was so I could fit in all 4 parks. I had not been to AK in my last few visits and really wanted to get some of AK in on our arrival day. But then I started really thinking about it. My mom lives about an hour and 15 minutes from me, door to door. I cannot take Winston to his “hotel” until 9am. I’m hoping my mom will make it to my place by at least 8:45ish so that we will both be able to drop him off and then hit the road. On average, door to door, it takes us about 2 ½-3 hours to arrive at WDW. So I’m budgeting for running late and going to say that we will be pulling out of the dog hotel at 9:30. Add 3 hours and we are pulling into FQ at 12:30. Noon at the earliest. Then we have to check in, if our room is ready, we always go and check it out and drop off our luggage. Then we always get side tracked looking at everything in the room (you’d think we’ve never stayed in a hotel before :rotfl:), check out the resort TV, go to the bathroom, fix hair, etc. And we are going to be hungry and ready for lunch so that’s another hour. Then travel time to the park. And with the spring break crowds, I have concerns that everything we want to see will have crazy long waits that I will not want to wait in. :scared1: I’m feeling rushed just thinking about it! And my mom and I both vowed to be very relaxed and flexible this trip. To just enjoy being away from home, doing something fun. So…long story short, I suggested (much to my mom’s enjoyment I’m sure) that we take it easy on the day we arrive. Check in, have lunch, do some swimming, and then head to DTD and have dinner at Wolfgang Puck at the West Side. Years ago, in my early 20’s…

:headache:

Hold the phone. I can’t believe I am now old enough to refer to my early 20’s as “years ago”.

:guilty:

Anyway, years ago, we had eaten there a couple times and always enjoyed our food. And we really enjoyed the Starburst Martini. Allears has this description:

Starburst - vodka infused with strawberries, pineapple and oranges, mixed with triple sec and sour mix $8.95

It’s Y-U-M! :lovestruc

So as it stands right now, AK is once again getting put on the back burner, but since we do have the ticket, it’s still a possibility, albeit small at this point.

That’s all the actual trip updates I have at the moment. Up next I will share my MK memories and must do’s. Thanks for reading! :cutie:

I can't watch scary movies on my own. Don't think I am nuts but we have a few ghosts that live with us :rolleyes1
I don't do well with things that go bump in the night because it means something is moving on it's own here :scared1:

Welcome! I :lovestruc dogs! Feel free to share a story or 2 here if you like!

I don't think you are nuts at all - I actually want to pick your brain and hear all about it!

I have never had any sort of paranormal activity happen to me. I honestly don't know why I'm so interested in it - no one in my family and none of my childhood friends that I can recall, have any interest in scary things. At all. :confused3 That being said, if something happened to me, I would be terrified and definitely not "enjoying" it like I do the movies. I went to a very old college, that had many urban legends and ghost stories associated with it and lived in the dorms all 4 years (different bldgs/rooms though). My junior year, I hated being alone in my room, especially at night. If my roommates were not home, I would have to leave the TV on when I went to bed so I could sleep and I NEVER put my back facing the room when I was in bed. Never felt that way anywhere else.

I'm getting caught up!!! We put AK on the back burner in our trip in Dec and Aug, and I think March too. The only time I went last year was with my friends in Oct. I would have been fine laying by the pool but since I was paying for a park ticket, I went along for the ride. We spent way longer there than I had wanted to but oh well. I guess you can say I got my fix for the year. I worked there but it's my least favorite park..shhh don't tell!

Happy Valentine's Day Eve!

Since tomorrow is a busy Monday for me, I thought I'd post this today! I don’t have a human valentine, but apparently, I do have an admirer...

On Friday, when I checked the mail, I saw that Winston sent me a valentine! Not really sure why he mailed it since he lives with me ;)

Cute, huh?

The inside - what nice handwriting he has!

Hope everyone does something a little special for themselves or someone they love tomorrow! :lovestruc

OT: Tomorrow is my observation/evaluation at work. I get observed and evaluated twice a year by a woman downtown who couldn't identify me by name from a line up. But it has to be done. Send good thoughts that she likes my therapy activity (or a "lesson" as she calls it :sad2:) and that the kiddos in that group are cooperative and on their bestest behavior!
I love:love:the card that Winston sent you. too cute!

hope your review went well. :thumbsup2

Thanks...I thought it was sweet as well. Would have loved it even more if the scratch off lottery tickets he put inside won me millions, but no such luck. Not even a free ticket.

My supervisor cancelled my evaluation because "something came up" It's rescheduled for next Monday.

Next summer, 2012, my DB, DSIL, niece, nephew and myself will be joining my mom on an Alaska cruise (actual dates and itinerary TBD) to celebrate her retirement in 2013! Needless to say, it probably won’t be the cheapest of vacations and we are all trying to save a little bit in anticipation of this big adventure. But I really look forward to doing something fun and getting away for a little bit so I have been thinking of my summer 2011 vacation plans since before Christmas!

I firmly believe that we should do things with our friends and family now, if at all possible and within your budget, because you never know what tomorrow may bring. I’d hate to save and save, never having any fun and the next time I turn around, I am 40, 50 years old and have zero fun, happy memories from the last 40, 50 years of my life. Not that you have to go on a vacation to make memories, but you know what I mean. My mom and I had wanted to go to Ireland for years. My dad (who was born and raised in Galway, Ireland) had promised me he’d take me when I graduated high school, then when I graduated college. Never went. My mom and I discussed doing it Summer 2007, but nixed it for whatever reason. Then in 2008, my dad passed away from a 2 year battle with cancer (sidenote-my parents have been divorced since I was a toddler). It was then we realized we just shouldn’t keep putting it off. So…we saved and planned and scrimped and we took my niece on the most amazing vacation I have ever had to the Emerald Isle in Summer 2009 with Adventures by Disney – TR link in my siggie if you are interested. So I am all about the vacations and just getting away with the ones you love.

Some of my fave pics from that trip:

Initially we planned to do Disney, but then we decided summer in Disney is not for us if we can at all help it, so we moved it to March! Then for awhile, we planned on going to St. Augustine, FL. The oldest city in Florida. I think. We’ve never been there, but have been told it is gorgeous and a good mix of sight-seeing, shopping and beach.

But…

My mom and I really, really like our cruises. There weren’t many out of Ft. Lauderdale (where we sail out of). But I kept looking. And looking. And saw a cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas. Which is the largest cruise ship in the world and looks unlike any ship I’ve ever been on. But that experience doesn’t come cheap and the prices were a little more than we usually spend on a cruise, and, for that matter, more than we wanted to spend this summer in general. But thanks to my mom being 55+, we would be able to get a decent senior discount (I’m sorry, but 55 is hardly senior IMO, but I’ll take the discounts where I can get them!). So it is up in the air right now what we will be doing, but I figure if we do book the cruise or anything else, I will probably talk about it here so thought you should all be in the loop.

Disney in a few weeks and an Alaskan cruise to look forward to?!?

I LOVE the photos! As always, Thank you for sharing! :flower3: Your philosophy is so TRUE, we never know what tomorrow holds!

The older I get, the LESS I like to be scared!:lmao::eek: I used to watch everything that frightened the wits out of me...I think real life just got to scary...:scared1:

Alaska is one of the 2 places my mom actually spoke up and said she really really wants to visit. Ireland was the other one! In our house, if she actually says she wants to do something, she really wants to since, like most moms, she puts her kids wants before her own.

Looking for some positive energy and good thoughts, everyone! My co-worker's speech intern and I were chatting today about her next internship, with adults. She was mentioning how nice the facility is, the people she met, and that they were hiring a full time SLP. So...I called this afternoon and I'm going next Wednesday for an interview! I like where I am now, but I don't love it, and I'm just guessing the salary will be a little higher as well. Money isn't everything, but I have a future to think about and student loan bills to pay now so if I can make a little more, that would be really helpful. Plus I'd like to use my adult therapy skills while I still feel I have them semi-fresh. But I wouldn't be able to start until summer, when school is out, and I have no idea how soon they need someone. I guess I'm just looking for some guidance so that if I have to make any big decisions, I feel like I'm making the right one!

How did I not know you are a speech therapist?
Sounds like a wonderful trip to take. My husband wants to do that one day.
