Has it really come to this? Wider toilet paper?

And here I was just noticing the big industrial rolls of toilet tissue here at work are getting narrower. Like rolling off rope.

I don’t know. Disney had to redo the it’s a small world boats because it is now it’s an obese world.

Yeah Costco brand also went wider ...hope they fit in the the holders . My daughter lives in older apartment and can’t put in the bigger rolls now. Not sure the purpose of it.

I'm not sure having a wider butt means you actually need wider paper...

I don't suppose it could be too wide otherwise it wouldn't fit most holders.

So out of curiosity I looked up tp dimensions. Way to spend a vacation! lol. The Charmin wider sheets are 4.5x4, and in years past the standard dimensions were 4.5x4.5. The Charmin wider sheets are still smaller than the standard sized sheets from the era of smaller butts. Smaller sheets and then charging more for wider sheets is all about increasing profit.

As someone said above, wider sheets are normal sheets.

Everyone narrowed the width of the rolls but kept the same prices. Charmin (sold at Costco) has the "normal" sized (now wider) rolls. Some Charmin comes in narrow rolls those so you have to be careful.

I hate the way the narrower rolls look on my dispenser. It's odd.

I heard it was done by making the flume a bit deeper.

I've been on POTC when there were a couple of really big guys. There was a line, but our boat was myself and my kid in the front row, and two guys weighing at least 350 lbs each in two separate rows in the back.

I assume this is a response to all of the complaints that the rolls have gotten thinner and thinner. Charmin got so small width-wise that I switched brands. Over the course of a few years, it went from barely fitting on my holder to having 1.5" of space.

Yes, I can confirm that the “wide” rolls are really just what used to be normal width. They’re the width of a standard toilet paper holder.

This is just a way to make you think you’re getting more value after they decreased the size.

There are countless products that have quietly decreased their sizes. Like how ice cream containers have gone down to 1.5qt, sugar is now 4lb instead of 5, etc. And then you’ll occasionally find an ice cream carton that’s “huge value half gallon size” or “wow, now 25% more” but that’s really what it always was before.

I buy the mega rolls (4xs the standard roll). But I don't remember the standard roll being so small.
