Has Boma gotten that bad?????

We last ate at Boma in Oct 2007.....it was wonderful food!

I see a lot of negativity towards Boma here.....

So, for those who have eaten there lots and recently...how is it?????

Not recently but went Feb and Oct 2009 (our first trip was back in 2007) and really enjyed it still. Back for another trip in 3months and it is still our favourite restaurant.

I heard that they cheapened the roast from prime rib to ?sirloin?

But, hopefully, the rest is still up to snuff.

It was my favorite meal at WDW.

We had breakfast and dinner at Boma in May and they were 2 of our best meals (as always). Booked both again for January (as always). I don't think the quality has suffered at all.

We go every trip and have never had a bad experience. Actually we will eat there again in September for my son's 11th birthday- his choice.

There is a great variety and the food is good quality. We enjoy it. LOVE the zebra domes!!!

We have eaten here at least a dozen times and we have felt that it's not as good as it used to be. We noticed the difference about 2 years ago. It's still good, just not as good.

We do a bit of a poll series thing on restaurants, and one of our most recent was Boma. So far, it has an approval rating of over 80% with 200+ votes. There are also four pages of comments and reviews for you to check out.

I don't think that the quality of the joint has really decreased. You've probably just seen a bit of negative message board press lately, is all, which can exaggerate things. I wouldn't worry about it.

We love Boma's. BUT the flavors/spices may not appeal to everyone. They book Boma's based on the reviews and then once there realize that the food spices are not to their taste.

We've been going every year and the only difference we've seen in the cut of beef used. Love, love, love the soups, salads and desserts.

We also read a lot of negative comments about Boma prior to our trip (end of Feb/early March).. We decided to keep our ADRs because we had always enjoyed it during previous visits. So glad we kept it. Everything seemed to be just fine! The food was very good, buffet was kept clean and everything seemed was fresh. Absolutely zero problems for us. We happen to like the flavors of Boma, so if you have been in the past and enjoyed it.. Try it again!

One of my favorite places to eat! However, yes, it has gone downhill a bit. The most obvious is the substituting the sirloin roast (tough and not well seasoned) for the Prime Rib. They seem to have done this at numerous DISNEY restaurants - a shame

A lot of people were upset when they changed the cut of beef away from prime rib etc. For me personally, not that big of a deal.

A lot of people also say it has gone down a bit in quality etc., but I think the dining pan, all the free dining etc. has made it that way for many restaurants. Two more examples that are not nearly as good as htey used to be, but still serve decent food are LeCellier and Crystal Palace.

They have to keep up with the high demand and keep costs down. Do I consider Boma a 5 star restaurant? Of course not, but we love going there and think the food is fine. If I want something a bit better, we go to the signatures like California Grill or Narcoosees.

But Boma to me is the best buffet type restaurant in Disney and normally we do not like buffets except for breakfast. We love the bold flavors and spices they use, plus my one picky child who likes simple food can get what he likes there as well.

And we think the atmosphere is fun too. We always enjoy our time there!

Yes this is exactly what happens, IMO.

I am not a fan of Boma, the above is what happened to us. We did not have a bad experience, nor bad food, but it was NOT for us. The spices were not what we were expecting, nor like.
There have been a bunch of Boma threads, not bashing the place, but people are begining to "explain" why they didn't like it....sweet spices. So maybe that is what you are seeing.

And I agree with PP....the prime rib has been switched to a strip loin everywhere....such a shame.

I too have read a lot of negativity on these boards about Boma. We will be trying dinner for the first time in September and despite all of the negative comments towards it, I am going to be my own critic and not worry about what others say. I am actually excited about trying it, only because I would of never thought in a million years my DH would of suggested eating here, and he did (plus of course I can't wait to try the food for myself, and the ever popular zebra domes). My DH is not much of an adventurous eater he is usually a meat, potato, and pasta kind of guy. So glad he was willing to broaden his horizons a bit

We love this place. We are always up to new and different foods. I think there is something for everyone there. They have salads, hummus and more.

We have been fans since the restaurant opened, and we had also read the reports of the restaurant going downhill. We were a bit nervous going last September, especially taking a friend who had never been there before.

Our reaction could easily be summarized as "reports of the demise of Boma are greatly exaggerated".

While I didn't have the strip steak that night, I would prefer it to prime rib in general just because of the latter's higher fat content. (Tastes great, but as a heart patient I need to watch my fat carefully.)

Like others have said, it is still good but not as good as it once was. The WONDERFUL prime rib is now sirloin roast. OK, but sure not what the prime rib was. No varieties of fish, just salmon (like so many other WDW restaurants), smoked tomato soup is gone (Chef told me "It was too much work.") but it still has some outstanding selections and foods you won't find anywhere else. I still go 3x/year, but IMHO, Tusker House is about to edge it out as my favorite.

BOMA is the BEST BUFFET at Walt Disney World in my opinion. Excellent service, Excellent Food, Excellent atmosphere.

As noted above, the prime rib has been substituted for a lesser cut of beef...BUT......

I understand that they do serve the Prime Rib on Wednesday's and Saturdays.

I have not been back to Boma's since my stay at AKL in 2005 but it is one of the reasons I chose to stay at AKL this November and I plan on having breakfast at Boma's every morning and have ressies for dinner one evening

WE LOVE BOMA!!! It is one of our favorite WDW restaurants. We never miss it. In fact, we ate there for dinner twice on our last trip. I can't wait to bring my mom there for her birthday next month!
