Has anyone tried the Pal Mickey?

We have a 6 yr old DS and was wondering if it would be a good idea to get one for him.

I got one May 2003 and my then 7 year old daughter loves him. She plays with him all the time even at home. This December, Pal Mickey will have gone back with us 3 times!!

Joanie princess:

We just bought him a few weeks ago and love him. He will be making the next trip back with us. My DD is 10 and we took turns holding him.

My 8 yr old nephew absolutely loves Pal Mickey. And I have to say Mickey does point out some neat stuff at the parks!

I didn't see it until the last day. It is priced at about $56 and that was out of my range, especially since we were leaving. If it is in your budget I think it would be loads of fun, get it right when you get there so it can tell you the parade times, etc...

We participated in a PAL MICKEY SWAP when we were down in August. We met another DISer at a resort, got Mickey and since we were the final swappers we sent him off to his new home/charity organization where he will be loved.

My 7 yo dd loved him and he was really great since it was just the 2 of us traveling - she enjoyed the jokes and waiting in line went by fast for her.

She learned new things this trip too - and she's been more than a dozen times.

Just a tip...if you do decide to purchase Pal Mickey, be careful when using the belt clip. Our neice had him clipped to the belt of her waist pack while at Epcot. She frequently sat down in the countries at the mask tables while visiting the KidCot stations to decorate her mask. The frequent sitting and standing must have knocked Pal Mickey loose, as she lost him. DH ran back to the previous two countries and was able to retrieve PM...luckily, a CM had found PM right away and had kept him. When we purchasesd PM, the sales CM had suggested marking the battery case inside so that we could identify him if we had to. That CM was wise. She had given us some "white-out" so we could put DNeice's initials on the case; taking this step made it easy to identify our PM to the CM who found him. Our thanks to both CMs as DNeice was heartbroken when PM was lost but felt the full measure of Disney Magic when he was actually recovered! From that point on, the belt clip was removed and PM was carried via a bottle strap attached around his neck.

Forgive me, but HOW could that be possible?

PM is featured prominently at virtually every single gift stand, toy store, theme park gift shop, hotel gift shop, park exit shopping areas, and even the Ft. Wilderness Outposts!

PM is seen being squired by scores of guests in all of the parks every single day.
PM can even be heard giggling (shame on him) during some of the indoor stage attractions at the parks.

Having been a regular WDW traveler and frequenter of many WDW websites, I knew of him well in advance of his first formal appearance.

Its kind of like NOT knowing about "Hopper Passes"... there are countless ads for him posted in and around the whole WDW property and in the Disney magazines.

So... I guess I'm saying you MIGHT want to be a bit more observant... he is definitely NOT a "Hidden" Mickey!!

Seeing the photo puts it in perspective for me! How do families with 2 kiddos handle Pal Mickey? Do you buy one and make them share or do you buy one for each of them? If you have two are they saying the same thing at the same time?

I love mine...Thanks for the idea about putting the name inside. Now I know he'll be safer on my trip next week. Of course, he's going to look a little different than other Pal Mickey's, 'cause he'll have on his Not-so-scary Halloween costume! (btw, the clothes at Build-a-Bear are a little big on Mickey  )

For 2 kids, since he would repeat his phrases and jokes, you might be able to get away with them sharing and taking turns listening to him. He'll repeat his jokes and fun Disney tidbits up to 3 times, I think, if you press his hand within 10-15 seconds of when he first says something.

Oh, and I think in the park, the responses and jokes are all based on whatever wireless signals, so I imagine that each Pal Mickey says the same thing at particular locations. So having two Pal Mickeys saying the same thing might get a little annoying! :)

We got our Pal Mickey last year and the girls really enjoyed him. We lost the belt clip so on our next trip we need to find another way to carry him.

Great responses!

I never would have thought about putting DS name on Pal Mickey. That is a great idea since it sounds like these things are everywhere. I am probably going to bring a silver sharpie to write DS name on it.

As far as the belt clip, has anyone found a better way to carry it around. I was thinking about strapping it to our stroller ( we are taking our infant DS as well as our 6yr old DS).

BTW, when did the Pal Mickey make his first appearance in the parks?

We bought some Magical Moments Pins when we were there for the 100th Celebration. Those things are great. Interactive Theme Parks is a great idea.

I know this must be posted somewhere, but I can't find it! How much is Pal Mickey??? Can I order him in advance and have him waiting in our room when we arrive? Does he talk only in the parks or at resorts, too? What about at DTD?

Pal Mickey is cute, and we loved the things he'd say when we didn't expect it, but we got tired of carrying him around. By the 3rd day, PM was left in the hotel room at AKL "watching the animals" while we went out. By the end of the 2nd day, he was put in my backpack. He kept falling off the clip, and maybe if we had a stroller to put him in, it would have been easier!

If you break or lose your clip - check anywhere they sell PM and should be able to get a replacement. We were able to do this recently. You do have to be careful with the clip. He can slip off pretty easily.

I'm pretty sure Pal Mickey was introduced in Sept. 2003. We got a free rental day during our trip then and decided to purchase him even though we only had a couple days left. He went with us on our recent trip and we enjoyed having him along.

We have 2 girls who shared him. They did pretty well with the sharing and I even got a few turns to carry him.

When I learned about Pal Mickey a few months before our trip last year I got so excited! I REALLY wanted one! My husband tried to talk me out of it, suggested I might want to rent one first to try it out... but I knew, Pal Mickey was for me! On our first day there I ran into the Magic Kingdom and into the first store that sold him! I had heard about the problems with the belt clip, and I didn't want to take a chance of losing him. I found that if I hooked him to the strap of my backpack, up towards the shoulder, he stayed there and I could hear him even in a noisy crowd! Pal Mickey went everywhere we did our 8 days there. I never regretted buying him. For the past year he comes out to play with my grandchildren when they visit. Next month we are going back to WDW and My Pal Mickey will be right there with us!:earsgirl: ::MickeyMo

TXMommy- www.giftsofalifetime.com offers Pal Mickey for $75.-, he is normally $65.- (look under Personal Disney Shopper).

I would also opt for 1 Pal Mickey for two kids - that way they won't get tired of carrying him around as the days wear on - and we always end up passing him around to repeat what he said.

My DGrD plays with my PM everytime she's at my house - the kids say I'm "brainwashing" her !!;) :smooth:
